  1. good news with luck the Thais might clean up the mess the US made of this wonderful country during there RnR visits way back.

Any nonsensical excuse for yet another anti-America bash will do, eh. Trollin' trollin, trollin'--keep them doggies trollin' . . . .

The origins of Pattaya have been discussed repeatedly ad nauseam w/ testimonials from countless witnesses. Do a forum search for the full monty. The conclusion is always the same: sadly, the good ol' US of A can't claim credit for the development of Pattaya's unique wonderfulness.

"Don't bother me with facts: I've already got my opinions" is phrase I came up with years ago, applies here. America does plenty wrong, just don't blame us for things we didn't do, okay?

  2. Studies show that on average, a Thai person earns Bt25,405 a month

    Really ?

Think many people think all Thais are poor.. often to feel better about themselves. I know plenty people making 20K plus. Not everyone is poor and the 40k farang pension is not a lot here.

Average is a poor measure without knowing distribution. If I make 1,000,000 a month and you make 1,000, you now average 500,500 baht. Feel any richer? Headline was something of a "Duh" moment. Replace "red" with "debt" (which is meaning of "red"): Also, flavor that debt is like flood waters over which people don't have any control.

Rising debt likely to keep households in the debt
  3. "The school of life has a high tuition, but some fools will learn in no other" -Ben Franklin. All first suggestions will not work (Cops? Courts?). Trying to "out" her could lead to defamation suit and cost him more (remember even if TRUE if damages image of another, you will lose). Rational thing might just be to budget how much you can afford to be scammed each month and stick to it. It will happen: sometimes small, sometimes (try) big. Goes with the territory, like sweat and bad sidewalks.

  4. this whole affair was clearly just to skim off tea money, nothing to do with educating the kids (typical in education ministry). Along same lines as those bomb detectors. No idea what to use them for, no intensive training of teachers on how to use them and integrate into lessons, seems no actual specs on what these shoud be able to do, and of course no quality control. For those that still happen to be operative, plus is that kid can play games while teacher is droning on, reading from some book, brooking no questions or discussion.

  5. Judging from the number of threads regarding this topic that have popped up in the past hour, it's clear that this social network intended for uneducated people is only popular with Thai people whistling.gif

Clearly you prove that uneducated people also don't use facebook. Such a blanket statement from ignorance.

  6. Let's here it for the coup! Able to cut through bothersome red tape, no need to deal with those self serving elected folks, do what they want for whatever reason they want. And hurrah for the banks stepping in with the money (or am I wrong there? Thought there was some article about them bidding for the loans?) Whatever, point is there is now a government in charge that gets things done! Those that don't like it can just leave If they are not Thai anyway.

  7. Saw Donovan at U of Oregon way back in 68, with Pau Horn. Good concert. His music has stood test of time, might even sound better now (have his greatest hits cd). John Lennon was quite taken with him, and fact he didn't need whole band behind him, this around era the bunch went off to India. I wasn't a huge fan, but I'd love to see him.

  8. Any word about boosting curfew to 11? That seems to be a rumor going around. Official announcement would be nice. Have gf coming in from Bangkok after work on Friday night, usually gets to Pats about 10...

  9. Here's a real pipe dream: police actually are transformed into a legit arm of government, well trained, not corrupt etc. This new honest force for law then goes after the corruption in military and succeeds. Ha! May I suggest books by John Burdett "Bangkok 8" etc. In every book there is the competition between police and army over who gets bigger slice of corruption pie.

  10. They not say anything about the weapons found in Khon Kaen from red shirts to be used in terrorist attack in Khon Kaen? The weapons found at Aksa road at the Red shirt rall y ? And the US and other countries will support this and recognize this government in exile .?I thought Thailand had already 2 years a government in exile in Dubai nothing news this

That may be one way of putting it. Another way might be they are patriots trying to restore (flawed) democracy over military dictatorship (that is what it is now). American revolution was started by folks with weapons, deemed traitors by British (don't think label terrorist was used back then).
