Thanks everyone. Ended up going for the BT Residence.

Hi people
I'm tossing up between two condos in the Asok/Nana area. One is Asoke Place in Asok Montri Rd, the other BT Residence on Sukhumvit Soi 8. The facilities and price for each are about the same, so the main point of differentiation would be which has better access to Thai food, either local restaurants, markets or food courts. Any thoughts?

Does anyone know of a company in Chiang Mai that can spray PU insulation foam to insulate a roof?
I have seen many companies advertise for Bangkok area but they do not want to come all the way up here and for some reason they cannot recommend or dont seem to know anyone in Chiang Mai who does it. -
I'd have to wear shoes and socks, otherwise I might be recognised by my feet...

Thanks, but it's the tea that we were missing. As an aside, I've noticed what we call coffee plungers are very expensive here in Thailand.
So I schlepped out to the Airport Plaza to score, which wasn't all bad as the relocated food court in the undercover carpark is actually a much more spacious and pleasant place to sit than the regular area inside the mall.

Buying Tea Bags, Inside the Moat
I wouldn't do that, you'll get wet.
Thanks for the bump, anyway...

Thin Thin Pizza are also on MealsOnWheels4You...the Tom Yum Pizza is good but might not be to a ten year old's taste (especially once the tomato sauce is added)

I hardly believe I have to ask this, but...
We've staying just off Singharat. We've run out of tea bags (I prefer leaf tea too but the apartment hasn't got a teapot). Went to the local 7-11 and no they don't sell any sort of tea. Do I have to schlep all the way to one of the Malls just to get a packet of jigglers?

Thanks. I've since read that they are currently working to turn it into a boutique hotel (which suggests there's nothing in the mass murder story, as presumably no Thai at least would want to stay there if that was the case).

It appears that there ate two separate properties on the block-the Lion House and the "House of Success", which is the one we took photos of.

Politicians are responsible for the Bail Act, but the act allows the court to decide if there are exceptional circumstances which would justify the granting of bail even in circumstances where legislation othewise denies it.

I'd prefer to blame the magistrate who bailed him...

It's certainly not the spin the police are putting on it, if that's what you mean
He didn't run down people in Bourke St Mall as part of a police pursuit. The police abandoned the pursuit for safety reasons outside the CBD. He then drove into town, did burnouts in front of Flinders St station, then sped down Bourke St Mall running over people as he went.
He was apparently out on bail on numerous charges.

Down for an hour or two here in Chiang Mai this morning and again late this afternoon. It's now working but at dial-up speed.

Thanks folks. I'll stop rebooting then...

My internet has been down for long periods today, and is now up but slow and flaky. I've heard someone say there was a major problem all over Northern Thailand, but haven't seen any reference online (in the odd moment it has been working). Anyone heard anything?

Someone asked me what has replaced the former Manathai Village Hotel that was in
Tapae Rd Soi 3 until a couple of years ago. Any ideas? Is it still a hotel?

Astra Condo and area
in Chiang Mai
Posted · Edited by ctrunfree
Hi people
I'm coming back for another month in August next year, and I'm just working out where I want to stay this time. I notice since my last visit that the relatively new Astra condo near the Shangri-La seems pretty flash. However, they seem to be advertising a lot (more than 50 at a rough count) of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments on Air BnB (many apparently owned by Chinese, targeting the Chinese market) . Many seem to make use of the front desk staff to help people with key pickup, so I'm guessing the condo management is not averse to short term rentals. I'm wondering if this has had a detrimental impact on the place. Does anyone live there, or know anyone who does, who could comment?
We haven't stayed in that area since we had a month in a Peaks Garden flat quite a few years ago. What has been happening in that part of town? I don't suppose the refurb of the Pantip Plaza has included a food court? What is the Big C like-presumably not a match for Rimping?
