I have now lived in Thailand for 15 years. I first came here nearly 20 years ago looking for my ideal place to retire to. I wanted good weather, able to go for a run when I wanted, good tasty food, able to buy and build a lovely house with a swimming pool, good social life with like minded friends.
I have to say on reflection, I have achieved nearly all those objectives, except for the big Villa, instead I have six Villas and a lovely Wife (we just celebrated our 15 years anniversary), whom my grown up Daughters also love very much because of the way she looks after me and her dedication to my well being.
The key to my contentment is firstly My Lovely Wife, who is my constant and fun companion. The Villas which gives me a reason for getting my idle ass out of bed and to go and do something. A healthy exercise regime, which I chastise myself to keep it going (don't we all?). Once a week we have a delicious home take away meal with what we now laughingly call "wine-o-clock" where we share a bottle of wine, with our four pooches (who are also a source of joy), watching a good film on TV. We also have one of the nicest Housekeepers one could ask for and seems to love the dogs more than us (can't win them all!), which takes all the little strains off of life.
Very rarely I do get frustrated, but only with minor issues and try not to read too much on the Thai Political Scene, but there again poor old UK is also having it's issues with Brexit.
In summary, I consider myself very, very fortunate to live in Thailand, but it's mainly because I have directed my life into the style that benefits me the most. Stay reasonably fit, eat well, drink moderately and beware of who you strike up ralations with, but most important, do a comprehensive reconnaisance on where you want to live.
