Thanks... slightly shifting the topic a bit, but does anyone have any recommendations for a good school in Bangkok that teaches the UK curriculum? I'll do my own research but personal experience is going to be useful too

Bangkok Pattana out in Bangna uses a UK curriculum.  It has been in Bangkok for over 30 years.  There are others as well, and I think some are good, but I'm more familiar with Bangkok Pattana.

  2. I did something similar to this but only slightly different.  The kids were mine so they were luk krung.  They attended very good Thai schools in Bangkok so they were academically ok with moving to the USA.  They were almost 16 & 14 at the time and entered the 10th and 8th grades upon arrival in the USA.  Their English was very good and had no accent.  They had both US & Thai citizenship so there weren't any problems in that area.  They adjusted very well to life in the USA and both completed university and have very good careers in IT and finance.

If you cannot move right away to the UK then one of the international schools in Bangkok might be another option.  You'll probably want to go with one that has a UK curriculum.  Definitely do your research on that as some are very good and others just so-so.

  3. First off, the detained man should have been handcuffed with his hands behind his back.  Then he should have been placed in a rear seat diagonally from the driver and placed in a seatbelt.  As was shown above you need a police transport vehicle with a shield/wire mesh separating the front seats from the row behind the driver.  The area where the detained person sits also needs to be made of hard plastic for a variety of reasons.  Next, why are they transporting the detained person's mother?  She should find her own way to wherever they are going.  I can only speculate as to why she was being transported so I won't go into that.  Basic LE principles seem to be lacking in the RTP which would have saved this officers life, injuries to others, and the damage to the police vehicle.

  4. The Pattaya Sports Club used to have a group of people that bowled on a weekly basis.  I believe that it was a bowling league.  You can check their website to see if the group is still going.

Could be where he met his "wife". All foreigners like to pretend that their wives were working "in a bank" or "at the DLT" or "at a high end car dealership" when they met them but the truth is, a lot of them met them at the first (or 2nd) beer bar they ever went in to.

Maybe that is how you met your Thai wife, and that's fine, but I met my Thai wife back in the 80's when she was a graduate student in my home country.  I had never been to Thailand until after we married.

Many things can be true at the same time. No decent Thai man wants a woman with the scent of the sex trade.

Also, farangs are universally a laughing stock among Thai men, they can't believe who we wrestle with.

However, you made a different and more valid point. The arrival of the younger expatriate generation has increased competition for young Thai men. It's not unusual to see middle-class girls dating and marrying stable younger farangs. That is starting to annoy some younger Thai men as their general xenophobia mixes with sexual jealousy. All of these relationships that I am aware of are thriving. One friend has just given birth to her second baby, she lives near The Somme, France. I can't think of any relationships that have broken up but neither do I have a drone pursuing pals across the world.

So, no - Thai men are content to allow farangs wrestle with the sex trade "belle's"

And, yes - they don't like having their better ladies stolen away.

Younger working expat farangs have been dating and marrying university educated middle class Thai women since the 80's and probably before.

  8. Every immigration office is different and gives different advice on these matters.  I have had my kids renew their Thai passports and ID cards both in Thailand and abroad and always got contradicting information.  Their Thai mother passed away when they were teenagers so I've been through this when they were under the age of 20.  I did have their mother's paperwork such as a Thai death certificate and her last ID card as well as her old (and now expired) passport to help facilitate the various immigration officers.  Good luck!

Also, did anyone read the book that was written about Trink titled "But, I don't give a hoot!" by Jennifer Bliss?

Yes, I read it.  It was a fairly good read about someone who had his supporters and detractors.

There will be many countries that will help with all needs, to build, run, and maintain a nuclear plant here.

    It's 2024 man,  not the 1950s  :coffee1:

Until the Thais decide that they are no longer needed because, "we got this".

It may be 2024 but some people in the government that oversee such projects are still stuck in the 1950's.

  11. This is not a good idea on so many fronts.  These nuclear plants need a lot of maintenance, safety checks, and constant monitoring.  Are the Thais willing to commit to this?  I am not so sure.  I feel that the next thing we will hear is "Thailand's first nuclear clean up" after a meltdown.
