  1. K' Shane at Aleciea is the guy you want to do the nut job. He does most of the Thai 'superstars' guitars and even makes stunning handmade PRS copies that go for around 30k (when he can be bothered)

We go back a way. Orginally I was very critical of his work but I learned to push back on anything that wasnt 100% and now I trust him totally. Wheh he's 'on' he's as good as anyone in the world and if I were a touring guitar player, he'd be the first guy I would employ as my tech.

His shop isnt that easy to find down Rama IX but you turn left at La Defense Massage (I think) and head down the back of the soi, turn left turn right and you're there.....

  2. Selling up is the best way but I want to keep all of our old photos and I have musical instruments/gtr amps and the kids toys which are difficult to part with.

Anyway it turns out most of the advice above is complete crap!

Phoned Kent in Melbourne and they quoted 5.5-8k AUD for LCL, god I wonder what a container costs?!?! For 8K Aus I could buy quite a few one way plane tickets and use the 30kg plus carry on allowance for each ticket!!!!

And I have a lovely email from a nice guy at Seven Seas to say that they do not currently operate, nor have ever done so, from Thailand!!!!

  3. Hi,

I know this has been asked before so forgive me but I couldnt find the answer using search.

I have 5 cubic metres to move to Australia. This is what moving companies are telling me but seriously I think it is 3-4 at the most.

Waiting to go in a container and going by sea is fine I'm in no hurry.

Lowest quote is 86k seems kind of expensive.......what are my options? Unaccompanied baggage?

  4. 2 different types of comedy club as far as I know:

    1. Punchline comedy club. Imported comedians, very funny and talented people and highly improvised. Often at Imperial Queens Park but I think the venue changes a bit.

    2. Bangkok Comedy Collective. Local (farang) comedians regurgitating jokes off the internet. Hardly improvised and a bit tasteless...wank mags, really?!

The first one is obviously a better night out!

  5. The Pintsman is in the Basement of United Centre on Silom Road under Citibank. Fridays are busiest as they have the Bangkok Swing crowd (dancers not swingers!) but the music is a little better on Thur and Sat for me.....The DJ plays some decent tunes between band sets too which could be anything from Elvis through Killers to House and Dubstep depending on the crowd and the requests he gets.......

Well I like it anyway ;)

  6. I live further out BangNa Trad...not a lot out this way, Beerosophy at Mega Bangna is nice but more geared towards Thais. I have never explored that area around Avana/Central BangNa but frankly its easy and cheap getting into town and the pubs are better......

  7. Took the family today. Total clusterf&^k. Expensive, way more so than BK unless you re talking the airport. Dirty tables, had to ask someone to clean up so we could sit down. The softdrink machine was down as was the ice lemon tea yet they were still selling combos and people were getting angry so they sent a couple of staff to buy cans of drink from Big C! The Chocolate shake didnt have a lot of choc in it, in fact we sent it back because it looked and tasted more like vanilla but no, it was choc. Food took quite a while to come but the one saving grace was the burger was excellent.

If you fancy watching Thai employees running around panicking without doing anything, then this is the place for you!

  8. I've played in pro level cover bands for over 20 years and never ever played it but after seeing it written on bar napkins over and over again I thought bugger it, if you cant beat em join em but I'm not going to do a hack version.

Rest assured it is neither easy to sing or play on guitar and do properly. The solo took me 5 days at about 15 mins a day, not a walk in the park by any means.

After all that I enjoy playing it loads and the reaction is always great so why not?!

    Phil X giving it loads:

Check out 1:06 where he goes off track a little ;)

  9. Hi Guys,

We have 2 shows, tonight and tomorrow...hope you can join us:

    1. Tomorrow (Sunday) at Check Inn 99 in Sukhumvit between Soi 5-7 - from 9pm and Chris is doing his famous 199b Heineken draft jug special while we play

    2. Tonight (Saturday) at The Pintsman in United Center Silom - its 850b for all the imported bottled beer you can drink from 7-10, we start around 830pm

Setlist from the likes of Zeppelin, ACDC, Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, Black Keys, Van Halen etc also a bit more 'poppy' earlier with Adele, Bruno Mars, Jason Mraz, Ceelo etc on the setlist

For the Thais in the audience we always do Hotel California just to keep you in the zone ;) ..... (Dont tell anyone but I actually enjoy ripping the guitar solo from that one)

Pop on by if you can ....2 great live music venues focused on improving the quality of live music in BKK!

  10. Yeah Parking Toys rocks, one of BKKs hidden gems for sure..... I was told they are closing shortly to remodel and are going to open bigger and better than ever.

Also check out The Pintsman which is a downtown live music haven. Friday they have a ROCKING 'psychobilly' band that covers everything from Elvis to Aerosmith in their own way (and the singer is cute as anything in her little punk getup). Sat there is a rock band, very guitar oriented, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, ACDC, Led Zep AND they do an imported beer buffet for 850b. A little difficult to find, in the basement of the United Center but totally worth checking out.
