  1. I liked U2 up until the point that they stopped making decent music (Actung Baby) and Bono became a hypocritical a$$ that liked the sound of his sermons more than his music

Rock isn't dead in Bangkok, plenty of places to go to hear it. Many Thais will tell you the farang music they like best is from bands like Scopions/Nickleback/Eagles/Santana etc etc

Just a few months ago I went to see Dream Theater here and it totally rocked!

  2. When on the West Coast I can't go past In 'n Out.....

Burger franchises have a history of leaving their best burgers off the local menu...cough cough....McDonalds Qtr Pounder. Carls in Singapore had a fantastic burger with Avocado, I hope that made the cut in Thailand.....

  3. One thing I won't be trying is the Singapore Chicken Rice as I am from Singapore...lol

My kids were born and lived in Singapore during their toddler years into early school......chicken rice is comfort food for them so whenever they see it that's where they have to eat

  4. I also dont think its overpriced either.

I think comparing it to JJ is doing it a dis-service as a lot of the clothes down there are very hip, locally designed and not expensive. If you are looking for cheap then Pratunam might be more your thing. Also JJ is crowded, dirty, smelly, hot...all the things that Asiatique is not.

Took the family down there a couple of weeks ago and ate Singapore Chicken Rice in the food court in the middle which WAS expensive and not very good. After the kids had their fill we went to the Irish pub which was mid price range but very good food. Bought some clothes and knickknacks and generally wandered around, thought it was a great night out for everyone.

  5. Plenty of decent pubs around, none of them around Sukhumvit Soi 4. In addition to the very nice No Idea in S22 that I already mentioned, I have to give a nod of the head to The Pintsman in Silom as possibly the best music pub in Bangkok. They have very different bands every Thur, Fri and Sat nights...all of them WAY above average musically and a great setting to have a beer and listen. No smoking inside. The crowds really get into the music too. I like that the DJ plays music that's sympathetic to the band and not loud doof doof music. In a way it reminds me of the old Admakers in Lang Suan except with miles better food......the beer is dam_n good too except no draught Heineken/Guiness/Tiger

  6. Leaving aside the gay/not gay/ bisexual ranting my theory is this:

Men are always looking for something a bit more exciting or a bit more depraved, the next sexual challenge and in Thailand that idea can go a long way....

First its the excitement of sleeping with a beautiful Thai girl, then that gets tiring, the bar scene gets tiring and has no excitement left in it. The first time you try a soapy its amazing but that too becomes passe. BJ bars? Boring...... the pathway always leads to ladyboys and I know many long term expats in decent executive positions that for no reason other than being curious have had a go.

    ...and enjoyed it

I am not taking that leap though......

  7. I have ToT 15mb plan, I never get more than 8 and am sick of calling and complaining. When I had ToT 10mb plan I always got 10mb, pretty good.

Drop outs are getting worse and in the evening I am getting a constant 2mb and its definitely getting worse. ToT have been 'investigating' for 3 months now and every time I call, someone from engineering will call me back and the managers are all in a meeting and can't take a call.....pathetic.

  8. Lemongrass in Soi 24 is a staple for work dinners and the first choice for the Thais I worked with whether entertaining os colleagues or not. Given the general decline of Thai restaurants in the downtown area I would probably recommend this one.

Suda was unbelievable around 10 years back but has slowly turned to crap with almost no service, especially if the old lady isn't around.

Baan Khanitha is nice but overpriced, more expensive than Singapore. Your 1000b won't go far there!

  9. What happened to the installed equipment then ? Did you just leave it in the property or return it to True.

As advised we took it with us and its still sitting here. Bad move.

Where are the service centers as opposed to True shops?

    That's the Thai way

It gives me great pleasure in watching all my Thai friends complaining on Facebook that their Dreamboxes dont work anymore...I was the mug subsidising that to the tune of 2k a month!

  10. I have been trying unsuccessfully to cancel a truevisions account, for a property we moved out of, for over a year now and in Jan I cancelled my mobile and switched to AIS but still got bills then lawyers letters.

Shops say phone call centre. Call centre says go to shop.

They want us to pay, I refuse, they say we never paid a deposit for internet or TV, we are truly in a stalemate, 12 months now we have been asking them to come pick up the equipment. Even the calling Trues lawyers on the letterhead we just get a Mai Roo maybe go back to the shop. No one has any clue.

    Nothing is working.

    Any Ideas?

  11. IPTV looks great for cricket with all the Indian channels that I assume you can switch between Hindi and English commentary?

However, no Setanta, no Rugby, no Rugby League is a deal breaker for me.......... have Setanta in HD I would go and buy today

  12. I sit in the middle.

I appreciate that there is a moderate amount of talent required to mix tunes together at the same BPM and take the crowd (and their stimulants) with you. However, do you need to invest the 10000 hours it takes to become a master of a musical instrument? No you don't.

Even Deadmau5 admits to being a button pusher.

There's a pretty good career in beings button pusher though. DJ Tiesto is worth 65million USD....amazing.

  13. I once heard it said that Starbucks is in the milk business rather than coffee, never a truer word spoken?

The Thais in our office building flocked to Dean and Deluca when it opened and I asked them why they would pay 75b for a coffee that was not nearly as good as the Suzuki place downstairs for 45b. The response surprised me in that they found Suzuki to be too strong and bitter and much preferred the weaker taste of D&D.......

Vittoria coffee at No Idea pub would be among the best in the city, don't knock it until you've tried it!.......but out and about you cant go too far wrong with a McCafe flat white...just the same as in Oz and miles better IMO than the coffee chains mentioned in this thread.

At home I was using Suzuki ground coffee, Vittoria from Villa if I was feeling wealthy one month, but just changed to Casino from Big C Extra which was stunning value at just over 100b a pack and for the price very very good.
