  1. Maybe I'm not well schooled in Economics but can someone enlighten me how the purchase of Carrefour by a group that already owns Big C and part of Tops, effectively creating a duopoly, will benefit consumers in lower retail prices......?? If they are claiming greater purchasing power then please, they would NEVER pass on those savings to consumers.

  2. I use an airport extreme as my main router and have an airport express upstairs as both a range extender and plugged into my WDTV.

I have many devices connected to this network both PC and Mac, as well as ipads, ipods, PS3 and the previously mentioned WDTV live. For this it works really well (but not necessarily better than a Linksys or other brand device)

I would disagree on the 'better range' comment.....actually the crappy True NLink modem router has a better range than either of the Apple devices in my experience.

The only real advantage that I can see is that, given the majority or machines in our house are Apple, it fits in to the environment easily......plug and play, virtually nothing to be done configuration wise.......

  3. ONce you've downloaded Veetle you can restart your browser and click on the link.....I watched it all day today no interruptions except the Adelaide weather

Should be a great day tomorrow if they can play a couple of sessions...

  4. The last 2 days I have been watching it on vip--sport.com and I challenge anyone to come up with a better quality stream.

The only downside is the guy in the UK has control of the remote so this morning while enjoying the morning coffee and seeing pietersens ton the channel was changed to UFC fighting......and after this guys stream every alternative is poor so I went and listened to the radio instead.

Hopefully after lunch with the UFC finished the cricket will be back on for the rest of that day, maybe the Aussies will get a bat......

I am streaming onto a 55inch LED with an 8mb connection, the picture quality is far and above Truevisions and yesterday the stream didnt stop once.....perfect.....if only I could get every sport to stream at that quality!

I think cricket is the perfect sport to stream as there is not a lot of fast action for the picture to pixelate. But I guess the streams will just get better and better in the near future as connections get cheaper and faster.

When looking for a stream I try to look for one that is being streamed with the Veetle player as they seem to be better quality.......good luck!

  5. It does take while for the HD channels to show up but not 12 hours.

Out of interest, how long did it take you to get the HD box? Were you on a wait list?

I cant say the same as the above poster about True technicians, in my experience they take what ever shortcut is necessary to do the job. In our house they completely fcuked the cabling by cutting out pieces to improve signal strength hence rendering every TV without a True box unusable. When eventually they did get a picture on the main TV they looked very excited and a 'there you go' type manner. I pointed out the picture was rubbish and their response was TV is too new, True is not designed for new TV's.....aint that an understatement!!

Having ID and a work order doesnt make dealing with them a pleasant experience!! try to call the service number and let us know how you go......

  6. Been using the WDTV for a while and in general its been brilliant, terrific value for the money.

However after the last 2 firmware upgrades it seems to be getting worse and worse for freezing and buffering mid playback. I understand that there are other factors at play like network and kids messing around with my computer, but anyway I'd like to look at alternatives.....so, what are the alternatives?!...Boxee Box?....dont know.....anyone?

  7. Cant judge too much on the performance against Wales....the end of a long long season.

Refereeing will play a huge part in the WC. I hope there can be some consistency between Northern and Southern referees before then. The refereeing in the All Blacks game was substandard at best and <deleted> is going on with the scrummaging interpretations is anyones guess.

SBW is a flash in the pan. By WC time every team in the world will have figured out how to counter the offload so there will need to be a big improvement in all aspects of his game to displace Nonu (IMO)

But, like everyone says...it will come down to whether they can conquer the weight of expectation at home and the mental aspect of the game to see whether they can get home come finals time. I hope that McCaw is the key to the world cup and his leadership can get them there. The best AB's captain sine Fitzpatrick and its usually sides with strong leadership that triumph on the day.........

  8. Streamed the first session this morning from VIPstands.net using the MBP to 55inch LED....surprisingly good stream using the Veetle player.....better quality than anything on True Visions although of course being a stream it does freeze and buffer from time to time.....need a faster connection than the 8mpbs I'm on now.....

  9. I would prefer the 12 billion baht is invested in upgrading its cable TV offerings

It does ok in the broadband space but <deleted> True Visions has neither quality or content.........how about catching up with the rest of the region in your HDTV offerings...1080p across at least a dozen channels and show us some sporting content that isnt football!!

  10. No Derek Trucks.

The band he's been using this year has just himself on guitar, not even Doyle Bramhall II

Willie Weeks on Bass and Steve Gadd on drums, a keyboard player and a couple of backing vocalists...... cut down version of the 3 guitar player band he used last time.

Muang Thong Thani is no better or worse than a lot of similar arenas I've been to, can sound crap or a million bucks depending on where you are sat and whether the crew are phoning it in. I've heard some bands sound terrific in there so it can be done.

I'd be more concerned about the setlist than anything else. A setlist with the new album plus cocaine, wonderful tonight and the various other hits he's expected to play would be a no go for me at 6500b. If he's going to dig deep and be a bit adventurous, show us how he became to be known as god then I'd be there.....no guarantees I guess.

  11. I was not complaining about the Astro coverage, merely stating that unless Astro buys the Setanta coverage from next year, there will be no rugby from anything else but the internet. The Setanta channel that has been mooted is yet to materialise and if it does will Astro buy it? You can be sure that True will not. The only party that owns the rights to rugby next year in Asia is Setanta and its still unclear how that will be distributed.

The fact that Astro isn't available to everyone is a whole other conversation........

  12. the pressure is going to be enormous and possibly their most difficult opponent.

    Couldnt agree more.

Slightly different topic, I'm getting really sick of watching rugby streamed on the internet. I have spent a lot of time trying different streams ( a lot mentioned on here) and to date have yet to find one that doesnt stutter or freeze. Only have 8mps connection and would upgrade to 16 if I could be guaranteed a decent stream but I guess there are no guarantees....

Even the pubs cannot get a decent satellite feed of these games and are putting the internet streams up on their TV's and its horrible to watch.

If this continues in to next year I will stop watching rugby, especially the non international stuff like S15, and watch rugby league on Australia Network instead. The Setanta channel, if it ever gets off the ground, wont be bought by True and doubtful Astro will buy it either so you can pretty much say goodbye to any rugby coverage as they now own the rights to just about everything. Hopefully the Setanta internet service at $59 a year will be good enough to stream to a TV as that seems to be the only light at the end of a very long tunnel......

  13. The Big Mac is about the only thing that is decent from McD's in Thailand.

Those double cheeseburgers are awful at any temperature and I find them to be overloaded in salt as opposed to sweet not to mention dripping in fat.

Would be great if they did the Qtr Pounder here.....

  14. Veering off topic but is it just me or has Suda completely deteriorated in the last few years?

I've been a semi regular there for ten years but stopped going about 2 years ago when both the food and the service took a downhill dive. Unsurprisingly it was on days when the old lady wasn't there.....havent been in 2 years but would go back if things have turned around?

  15. I enjoy Tenderloins in Soi 33...you may not though as there never seems to be consensus on what a good steak is!

Failing that I BBQ at home.......

BTW isnt it funny how its come full circle and Steak restaurants have become trendy again in the big 'world' cities??

  16. I was in Soi 8 on sat for the game (terrific game BTW) , they were streaming internet coverage on to the TV and it was adequate at best. The odd drop out, picture a bit blocky...you can imagine.

In my general vicinity there were a lot of people complaining.

I guess we have to get used to it though as thats what its coming down to and at this point in time its almost certain that the next 4 weeks will be no different....

  17. The quality of picture you get from True is awful. Its optimised to be viewed on a small screen upcountry. Just go into any bar thats showing football and you'll see how ordinary it is.

True HD is not much better, SD quality at best but certainly not what you would be used to in other countries and only 3 channels = no value.

You could check out Charoen cable to see if its available in your building, its cheap but the channel selection is limited.

The other option is to buy something like this:

    http://www.wdtvlive.com/products/wdtv_live#/specs

Under 5k baht, then you can stream HDTV off your laptop on to your screen of choice. Get a hotfile account for $10 a month and your choice is pretty much unlimited......
