  1. Suggestion: could there be a "permanent" place on this site to find the descriptions of the basic facts of the visa runs to all the various land border crossings, such as ways to get there, how much it costs, etc? maybe they could be dated so we would know how recent the details are.

Here is the link to this sites page about visa runs

Couldn't see much about Ranong, but I only had a quick look

  2. Quote from UK Thai Embassy site

    UK Thai Embassy

    VALIDITY OF A VISA

The validity of a visa is three months from the date of application.

    VALIDITY OF A STAY

Upon arrival, visitors with this type of visa will be permitted to stay in the Kingdom of Thailand for a period not exceeding 60 days at any time.

EXTENSION OF STAY FOR THE ALIENS WHO OBTAINED TRANSIT AND TOURIST VISA

Those who wish to stay longer or may wish to change their status of visa must file an application for permission at the Office of Immigration Bureau located on Soi Suan Plu, off South Sathorn Road, Bangkok 10120 , Tel (662) 287-3101-10 (or at http://www.police.go.th/thaiimb/frconten.htm ). The extension of stay as well as the change of certain type of visa is solely at the discretion of the Immigration officer

Apologies Dr PP seems like you were correct, but now there is something I don't understand...

If someone were to get the quadruple entry tourist visa and it is valid for 3 months from date of issue, then surely this visa will be out of date before the entries can be used up !! Confused :o

  3. Kao Lak just north of Phuket seemed pretty nice for a night or two as does Krabi..

Last year I took an "orange bus" from Khao Lak to Surat Thani. This bus first stops at Takua Pa and then heads on to Surat Thani passing through a National Park ( Sorry can't remember the name ), I've gotta say I have never seen such stunning scenery and rock formations, it really made the 5 hour trip a pleasure. It is possible to stay in the park and take guided tours etc.

  4. Also think Man United's reign is over, like Liverpool they will be facing a battle to get back to past glories for a few years to come.

Man U were so strong in the past due to their strong youth team who then graduated into the firsts, because they had come through the ranks together they instinctivly new each others moves, these players seem to have dried up now and Man U are buying players in , it is not as easy for everyone to gell as a team.

I see hard times ahead for Man U... he he :o

  5. Hangover? When you wake up, drink a litre of water together with one 5mg valium.

After 30 min you stop shaking and feel hungry. Eat a good breakfast and vitamins

go back to sleep and when you wake up again you are cured. Stay away from red bull. Dangerous stuff.

Red Bull Dangerous and Valium not? Whats Wrong with red Bull? Its an Efficiant energy drink?

The bottles have health warnings don't they ? :o

  6. Maybe the dude's name is Adolph Hitler, I know a couple of Jesse James,a lot of John Waynes, a few Jim Jones,,There is bound to be more than one family named HITLER.

There is folks named after and just named the same as some famous and infamous folks. so no telling just what it is,so cut the guy some slack til you find out for sure.Or I guess we could get a bunch together and go hang the son of a bitch. :o

I don't think this is about having the family name "Hitler" or the using the name "Adolf", however I doubt anybody would like to be known as both of the names together, If my name was Adolf Hitler I'm sure I would be very embarassed and would change it ASAP

  7. How to start this, we got a business e-mail from someone ordering merchandise and that person used “Adolf Hitler” as the name which appeared in the address bar. I found this very offensive and was a bit surprised by my wife who apparently couldn’t care less.

I personally would tell this person that his e-mail address would be offensive to some people, especially westerners. I get a bit tired of this non confrontational Thai thing that causes killing fields and other problems to happen next door without taking a stand at all. It reminds me of the Osama Bin Laden T-shirts that were so common on Sukhumit a year ago.

Is it just me or is this really offensive? What would you do?

    Dutchy

Is this person Thai or European ?

If Thai, maybe the correct attitude would be to send an e-mail back explaining why any European would find this pseudonym offensive. I would think that European History is not taught in any depth within Thailand just as South East Asian History isn't taught in any depth in Europe. Armed with this extra knowledge the person in question would probably change their mind not wishing to be associated with

    this infamous name.

I wouldn't expect any Thais or Asians for that matter to be offended by someone using the name Adolf Hitler

If the person is European then they should know better, I would send them an e-mail back telling them to grow up.

  8. Please note that there will be a charge from the Thai Bank you are sending to, however this can be paid in the UK as part of the sending fee.

I read on here earlier (probably in one of the links that Roger13 linked to) that it is better to get the Thai bank's charge paid at the Thailand end. Apparently, they will take their charge anyway - if you've already paid all charges in the UK, you would end up getting double charged for the charges at the Thai end. Of course, you could always try to claim that back from the ever-generous UK banks... :o

    Hmmm...

Hadn't thought about that happening... although I'm not aware that this has happened to me yet !!

  9. I did a bit of looking into the cheapest way to send money to Thailand a couple of months ago...

I found that Lloyds TSB offered the cheapest service charging only £0.25p per £100 with a minimum charge of £13.

Please note that there will be a charge from the Thai Bank you are sending to, however this can be paid in the UK as part of the sending fee.
