  1. Kudo's to Timesonline. There is no obligation whatsoever.

"request again and ask the daily to "reply officially" as the article had hurt the feelings of the Thai people...."

what a bunch of bluff & hearsay. what the government wants to do with the tape is falsely accuse the Times.

The Thai officialdom feels that 'outside' press need to adhere to the norms of info distribution here. Suppression, censorship, manipulation, and control.

Agree does anyone recall when Thaksin cut off BBC world news after his interview on hardtalk?

  2. The megalomaniac is out of control. In his self serving attempt to bring down the Democrats, he may well be twisting his knife into the Kingdom itself.

I wonder how long he can run his private jet on his perpetual travels if 100 to 200 thousand bucks was all he really had. :)

He recently sold Manchester City football club are we forgetting this money?, also his pad in London must be worth a bob or two not to mention his vast bank accounts that were recently discovered in the Caymans, lets face it even with 72 billion tied up in the courts he is is still one very wealthy individual.

  3. It always amazes me how the Thai police are able to arrest someone within days of ANY serious crime.

Within 24 hours they have a confession and a somewhat relaxed dude turns up with the Police at the scene, acting out the crime.

This means either the Thai police are one of the best forces in the world, or it's a white wash. I would be keen for the press turn up at the jail 1 year after a conviction for a quick visit with the accused.

They may find he isn't in that day!

What happened to that border Police sergeant down south who extorted, tortured & beat up members of the local community for years?

What happened to those two guys who were convicted of raping and killing the young, female British backpacker on Koh Samui? (The ones who looked like they just won the lottery after being arrested)

    The list goes on.........

The guys in Koh Samui got death penalty and were dispatched shortly there after courtesy Mr Thaksin

  4. Why on earth do they not supply only Biodegardable bags and save on all this hassel. Biodegradable bags should be the only bags available EVERYWHERE to include all shop outlets and are available at Makro right now !! :)

My understanding is biodegradable bags take several years to break down why not make so they can be recycled, Tesco UK started a scheme last year where they gave away millions of heavy duty bags free to customers which could be reused for several years and by doing it they saved money ( but did they really nothing is free ) The answer may be no free bags period take your own, people would soon click on.

  5. Get a Thai fixer to arrange he bung sadly thts the way the cookie crumbles here, the Esan folks are having the same problem trying to re-import a LOSs leader.

Surprising the customs are so flexible condsidering they got you by the nuts. The only ploy I can think of if really mean it says keep it .

However this is high risk strategy as they may

    1 Nick

2 Charge a FEE for looking after it

Just think its AliBabas your dealing with and it puts you in the right mindset

Don't stress its a good early lesson of how the pecking order to the trough hereabouts.

you really should get this resolved asap as for sure they will charge you storage fees and that 85000 baht will still have to be paid.

  6. Just think of the "money" that would be generated if the Thais would simply establish a "real traffic" enforcement team and enforce just the basic traffic laws, like it is done in many western countries. Real traffic cops, real fines, and real traffic courts. They would all be driving new cars, get paid a decent wage, and traffic deaths would drop. In one way over regulation is bad but one the other side, you'd be able to drive somewhere not worrying how much you will be paying for other guys mistake or stupidity.

If they had real traffic enforcement how would the BiB make a living get real.

  7. Again, it is shameful that the US-Navy advertises so openly that the main reason for them to come to Thailand is Rest & Recreation.

In normal diplomatic wording it should have been called a courtesy visit from the US-Navy to Thailand.

According to my wife and father in law, and myself, the Vietnam era is long gone, and the US should behave like any respectful state.

Advertising the R&R so blatantly is very degrading for the Thai people.

    what nonsence

long time since I read such absolute bullshit

  9. The complaints were not about including the wax figure at the museum. The complaints were about the offensive advertisement which was indeed in extremely poor taste.

How about removing the statues of traffic cops sprouting up at many road junctions am getting back ache reaching for my wallet.

  10. I've noticed a lot of (and i mean a lot of) groups of cops around pulling many trucks over and even some cars and motorbikes MUCH MORE THAN USUAL.

I just drove through bangkok yesterday and got stopped myself in my pickup truck 4 times!

On my past 6 trips, i got stopped twice TOTAL.

So, my wife says it's just cause the police need money now because of the economy and that is the only reason.

    I'm not buying it.

Also, we were told we would have to pay 1500 baht (either to the cop who would go ahead and pay the fine for us, or come back in 4 days and again in 15 days to pay it ourselves) because our hatch to my Carryboy was open.

We ended up waiting about 45 minutes and he came down to 1,000 baht.

We paid, mainly because it was in the hot sun and my 75 year old mother in law was getting uncomfortable in that heat.

I wanted to wait him out another hour or so but my wife didn't think he would come down anymore.

All the rest of the stops were ok as i hadn't done anything wrong.

we told one cop about the 1500 asking price and he just laughed and said it should have been around 500 baht.

Anyway, something's going on as there are just many more of these roadblocks than i've ever seen before and i'm sure it is slowing traffic down.

I was stopped accused of using my mobile whilst driving, no mobile in truck so searched and let go had there been 1000 baht fine realy getting fed up of this
