  1. I have had a couple of camouflage army type jackets bought some yrs ago just as working attire.Forgot all about them til they came to light yesterday. My wife tells me it is now illegal to be seen in public either walking or on m/bike wearing these.Anyone know what the story is on this

  2. 2 hours ago, Faz said:

Bravo OP. You helped an elderly distressed widow return home to her family and friends.

Living in LOS should be by your own choice, not by coercion.

I agree with you entirely about her ending back in Wales----good on ya mate-------but to broadcast to the world another mans life like that DEFINITE NO !!!!!! There was no reason to tell the son's name or even the location or Bar or even Pattaya,Not only broke the law but destroyed a mans reputation and maybe his Business, BAD NEWS MATE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Another poorly designed form to join the long list of poorly designed and confusing forms that the Govt come up with.

Why are you saying 'The Government'------------- Do any of you stupid people who send in stupid answers ever read what the thread is all about. This is a form sent out by the request (or demand) of one (ONE!!!!) immigration qfficer. It is NOT even from the Immigration Dept as such, just one man. They will not get any personal data that is not relevant from me.I could on the other hand fill up the form and a few extra pages with all the bars and eating places that I frequent, football grounds, favourite towns and places that I go to sometimes at week ends,Temples that have monks in them that always seem to be pleased to see and talk to me.I also like to do the occasional bit of window shopping at various big stores where I get a coffee and meal if hungry. There are lots of other info like this, hobbies etc that I am happy to provide info on.How am I doing so far????????????????

Anyone in immigration is an agent of the government - anything they say is consequently "the government" - anyone who has spent more than 24 hours in Thailand will realise that one of the most common ways of laws/regulations being introduced or changed is by dictum usually from one (overzealous?) person.....

You are exactly one of the people I was referring to in my first sentence--------------- this form does not come from a government organisation------- its a one man band from one office----------- Clear now???????????????????coffee1.gifcoffee1.gifcoffee1.gif

  4. colinneil just doesn`t get it. Makes no difference whether it`s songkran or not, it`s always like this in Thailand, no one will come out until they are good and ready and feeling in the right mood. It has to be entirely at their own convenience.

In Thailand we have to help ourselves, be prepared for every eventuality. I have indoor storage bins for water, recently built a huge outdoor concrete tank for water, so if the water is cut off we are good for a least 2 months, renewed my air con units to cope with baking hot weather, and bought heaters for when the temperatures dropped to record lows a few weeks ago. I have emergency 4 hour lighting units in case of power cuts during the nights.

Don`t rely on anybody here except yourselves in times of emergencies.

IN TIMES OF EMERGENCIES!!!!!!!----------- You have a bomb proof shelter under the house floor?????

  5. Never any problems at Jomtien Immigration. I live two blocks from the office, so even 90 day reports are done in person, no mail-ins. Usually, I'm in and out in fifteen minutes. It must be the most "newbie-friendly" office in Thailand.

No sorry but I have to say I read all these reports about all your troubles at various immigration offices all over the country and I have to say that in nine yrs I have never had any slight problem or worry at UDON THANI ,and they have had 3 different locations. This last one seems permanent and the staff are great---- I know them and they know me and it really is like meeting up with old friends. My last extension they took all my papers and gave me a temporary stay stamp. When I queried this she apologised and told me they have to send all to BKK,All was solved in a week or less. I wonder if sometimes people bring it on themselves.Maybe wrongs in application or just plain dress attire or attitude. We are guests here.If you go in politely with that attitude you will come out smilingrolleyes.gifgiggle.gif

  6. It still amazes me that people that have lived here for many years still dont know that almost every immigration office in Thailand practice the Immigration law after their own understanding of it. You can argue until youre blue but youll always be on the loosing side. The times i heard, yes but in Jomtien they do like this, Udon they do like this other places do like this, must be in the many thousands over the years. Its just a fact that it is like this, accept the system, its how it is, or dont accept and it will get you in trouble. This have nothing to do with TS, he had a legit question, it just came to me when i read som of the replies he got. Some, here they dont ask for this form. Yes what should he do, move up to your place because they dont ask for this form. Some offices ask for bank books some dont, some ask for special documents other dont, some offisers are friendly and try to help you through the process as smooth as possible, others are just a pain in the butt and like to make your stay in the immigration office as unpleasant as possible. One thing is for sure. Even if you have all the requiered documents for a visa or extension or whatever you are applying for, it is still up to the individual immigration officer to accept or deny your application there and then without any explanation. And that he or she individual officer can do, even when you have every asked for documents requiered by the Thai Immigration Law.

    I agree-------- Scary eh?clap2.gif

  7. Go Back Home and be safe....they cant getta there.....

Do I understand your posting as you agreeing to cheating customers and customers (Farangs or Thais) having to like it? Get real, ok? I also notice the practice of supermarket chains (i.e. BIG C) promoting items that turn out more expensive than the non-promoted one. And yes, I shop less at BIG C now, hate having to scrutinize each item before buying. Another thing that happens at LOTUS TESCO regularly? Items are reduced and the reduction is clearly marked but somebody forgets to tell their check out system...

somebody "forgets to tell the checkout"--------- love it-------cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

  8. In al fairness, this is an invention from outside Thailand and applies to literally any and all household items like tooth paste, carbonated soft drinks (Coke is sold meanwhile in 285ml bottles compared to 330ml before), detergent, UHT-milk (946ml instead of 1 litre) and so fort.

Some shops show the price per comparable unit, i.e. fabric softener per 1ltr on the price tag affixed to the shelf. Otherwise use the little grey cells and work out the better deal. Result is better deal and the brain keeps trained gigglem.gif

    You miss the point.

I don't dispute that they reduce the size, but that they stick the price from a larger sized package to it as being the normal price.

Hey Cruncher------- I agree and understand where you are coming from---- It is A SCAM--- and you have been duped but with a lot of nitwits on TV you will never get them to understand your OP. But mate I admire you're persistance in explanations to themwai2.gifwai2.gifwai2.gif

  9. Did you ever think that maybe the supermarket ordered and priced for a 900 gram detergent and later noticed that it was 800 grams instead of 900 grams and reduced the price accordingly to get rid of improperly supplied inventory.

    Yea Right---------cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

  10. Neither dice nor playing cards are illegal as long as it is not used for gambling.

Countless Pattaya (roadside) shops offering the popular "shut the box" dice game.

    Hardly a beer bar without.

    Shut_the_box.gif

Local brand of playing cards, 290 Baht:

    P011.jpg

Bad quality as with playing cards.

Thais in Germany always insisted to get good quality plastic cards from Thailand instead of the "local crap" biggrin.png

A popular souvenir from Thailand holidays.

As far as I know there is a specific tax on playing cards?

Hey Ben that "Shut the box" game looks interesting-------How do you play that?

  11. damn, will have to think the next visit through then, have a wife and stepson with no passport, and a 1 year old infant who need looking after.

What on earth has the wife's and stepson's lack of passport got to do with itclap2.gifclap2.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif ------- Me and my wife have been going together for the last 9 yrs.She has got to know the immigration officers in Udon Thani and talks freely with them and it is fun with her

and me.Maybe Udon Thani is different to some offices but I tend to think the problems that Farang get into

are brought on by the farang himself. For heavens sake matey, take her along and let her introduce herself to the Officers.

That is of course if you are not trying to hide anything. If that is the case------ best of luck------Dougal the happy Kiwi wai.gif

  12. Yes I agree, dress in a reasonable way, be polite and try to make their job easier. Over the years, so often I have seen men in shorts and a beach shirt (including my own countrymen) and that's the first sign the immigration police take as a sign of disrespect. I don't just give my documents in a bundle but separate them with paper clips so that they can deal with each set as they see fit. It isn't much but it does give them the impression that I am trying to help. Since Udornthani set up its own immigration office some years ago I have never had any problems. Before that Nongkhai was not so easy but then being a border post and processing domestic affairs I guess that was to be expected.

Agree wholeheartedly------- I hate wearing longs if anywhere in town but for immigration I make an exception.I am from Udon Thani and have been using the Udon office ever since it opened and has moved around Udon 3 times but now in a permanent position in the middle of town.I have nothing but admiration for the people in there. They have always treated me with respect and me with them.Have even had the odd joke with them at times. Any mistakes on the paperwork that I have made in the past has always been dealt with efficiently and friendly..I have just done my 9th extension and I suppose 36 "90 Dayers" and I take this opportunity------ If any one of them are reading this------ Just to saywai.gif thank you-----Dougal

  13. When I was in Thailand I almost always carried my U.S. passport. When an ID is needed - e.g. at guest houses and banks the passport is the most acceptable ID.

The one time I got stopped by a cop - for stupidly making an illegal right turn against a Red Light - and was then carrying one of those miniature laminated photos of the main pages, that the visa companies give you free and claim it is legally accepted - he was blunt and to the point. No! He would not accept this thing, he demanded the real deal. I had the passport still - in a handy pocket inside the bush hat that I use when I travel (Tilley hat, made of hemp and guaranteed theoretically for life.).

He took my passport and told me to go to the local police station and pay the Bt500 fine and come back with the receipt to collect my passport.

IMO why not carry the passport, inside a plastic pouch inside a pocket inside your hat? I feel it is safer with me than hidden in a room or house where something could happen to it when you are not around.

So the Cop took your passport and told you to come back with receipt from Police station for 500Bt and he would give you your P P back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another good reason to have a COPY on you----------- he wouldn't want to keep that til you came back.Oh I dunno he was a dum cop cheesy.gifcheesy.gif

  14. Apart from my Thai DL, I only carry copies of other documents under the seat of my motorcycle.

About a month ago, every bike and car was being pulled over at a major intersection in the middle of Issan.

This wasn't just a case of helmets, seat belts or DL, they wanted all documents.

I waited in a queue, one by one watching every Thai issued a ticket and being pointed to the 'tent' to pay a fine.

Many protested profusely, but to no avail.

I thought my number was up being a foreigner, they were going to screw me for something.

I had my DL ready, tax displayed, but only copies of my Insurance, Registration book, Passport and current Extension stamp.

After carefully perusing through what documents I had, the Police officer waved me through.

'Thai no good, Farang very good' he said with a smile.

So to answer the question, yes copies of your documents are accepted as forms of proof.

They do have the right to hold you at a PS until the genuine Passport is supplied if they have any doubts, but they don't have the right to fine you on the spot without giving you the opportunity to produce an original document.

YEA--- they "don't have the right"------ you are a scream mate------ If you had been taken to the PS you probably have paraded out side with your banner---way to go---- don't forget to send picturesclap2.gifclap2.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

  15. A driving licence doesn't show one's immigration status, which, in the current hysteria over the bombing suspects, might account for the tightening up.

Sorry Brewster but you are wrong. If they could be bothered or should I say if they were actually more interested in finding out if some foreigner was legal or not rather than just stinging him for 500bt then all he had to do was to look at the bottom right of the licence and the Passport No is printed there.Just had to check the computer that was no doubt sitting looking at him with a blank look(screen!!!!) Just another lazy attitude of the authorities but HEY!!!!! we're on our way to another million Bt in our bank and who cares what these bloody foreigners feel anywaysad.pngsad.pngsad.png

  16. I do not know if things have changed now.Can not imagine why but I used to go toNong Khai on chopperin the morning(about 8ish),cross over the bridge and pay my 1900bt Walk to other side of bridge ,do the checks with Lao office and walk back to"my side" have re-entry checked and on my way back home for my late morning coffee. Please do not tell me that was in the good old days--------Dougalclap2.gif clap2.gif

  17. coupon? Guess you mean couple?

    1) yes, other person can be under 50

    2) From the rules it is clear that one person can apply for extension based on retirement (with the 800k on the account) and the second person (married) can apply for an extension as a "dependent" based on the first persons extension.

So its two separate applications on different reasonings.

A mistake often done: bank account in both names.

    This leads to trouble.

Phuket immigration req. 1.6 million on the account in the past.

Legally such an account does not qualify.

Bank account has to be solely in the name of the person who applies for extension based on retirement.

The "1.6 million" req. was once brought up falsely by some Phuket newspaper.

Later it was found that the problem was the account in both names.

I understand the letter from bank ,that's to state your balance and prove it was in your a/c for the req time, but what's this Certificate from Bank do or say

I' d a couple of extra thoughts, as one of the major bitches here is that when dealing with a provincial Immigration office, there is a lot of discretion granted to the Officer you are dealing with. From experience:

    - Your marriage certificate will have to be translated into Thai language and certified by your home country's Embassy in Thailand.

    - bear in mind that acceptance of the spousal application being accepted as a dependent is also subject to the officers discretion. I can't offer concrete evidence of problems arising on this point, so I stand to be corrected.

    - make absolutely sure, when you arrive at Immigration to make your application, that your bank papers are dated the same day as you are applying.

    - there is a new requirement for bank paperwork. Previously, you had to show copies of the 60 days of the passbook, and a letter you request from your bank. Now there is a 3rd item, a certificate from the bank. So that is (I) copies of passbook, (ii) letter from bank, (iii) certificate from bank. Items (ii) and (iii) must be dated the same date you are planning on going to Immigration.if they are "stale" you will have to revisit the bank and do the whole exercise all over again.

Otherwise, if you have an open mind, and don't mind being a second-class citizen some of the time, it's a great country to live in!

I understand the LETTER FROM BANK---- thats to verify the correct amount of time and deposit, but what's the CERTIFICATE FROM BANK? Been here 8yrs and not had one yet!!!

  18. "Is this real life? Do I really have to report my address when I move?"

    Immigration Act.

Section 38 : The house – master , the owner or the possessor of the residence , or the hotel manager where the alien , receiving permission to stay temporary in the Kingdom has stayed , must notify the competent official of the Immigration Office located in the same area with that hours , dwelling place or hotel, within 24 hours from the time of arrival of the alien concerned.

"House Master" means any persons who is the chief possessor of a house , whether in the capacity of owner , tenant , or in any other capacity whatsoever , in accordance with the law on people act.

Section 77 : Whoever fails to comply with the provision of Section 38, shall be punished with a fine not exceeding 2,000 Baht. If said person is a hotel manager, he shall be punished with a fine from 2,000 Baht to 10,000 Baht.

It is law but rarely enforced. Although immigration seem to be enforcing it more and more these days. When you arrive to stay at a hotel the hotel will inform immigration. If you stay at a private residence the "House Master" or "Owner" should inform immigration. If they don't the fine is up to 2,000 baht. So you got off lightly with 800 Baht.

HE did not get off lightly,it's the responsibility of the OWNER to inform immigration ---------- read replies and understand

  19. "I do not know and could not understand why she would want the old one."

The only reason I can think of is that she wanted to see the original non 'O' visa which I assume is in your old passport.

The question arises as to whether we are extending the stay granted when originally entering or we are extending the stay of the last years extension. If the former then I understand why she might need/want to see the original visa. If the later then as long as she sees the previous extension stamp I don't understand why the visa would still be relevant.

NO the original one was in 2 passports ago nearly nine yrs ago
