Please select English speaking teachers without an English regional accent , good diction and no American twang !!.... or am I asking too much ?

As a Geordiie. I speak Geordie to my friends and family. When I use the phone or speak to people not from my area I speak BBC English.

Quite simple let NES retirees teach that have a lifetime experience, a passion for their community and a real desire to contribute to Thai esucation. Apsrt from already being based in Thailand probably for a long time and some understanding of Thai culture, surely beats any crappy ology degrees most youngsters get now that just want to spend a gap year travelling. They really are overlooking a vast untapped pool of potential teachers.

A lot of people think they can teach English just because they are English. If that were the case, then I would not have spent four years reading for an English degree along with the £45,000 of student debt that came along with my qualification. What you are advocating if for non-qualified people to work for free and take away the jobs of qualified English teachers.  Sure, they can do it so long as they have a degree and a TEFL or Celta, along with a police check!

I really hate the term 'jao khong phasa' for 'native speaker', because it literally means 'owner of the language', which is patently absurd.  English, like any language, is a dynamic, constantly evolving tool for communication, not a commodity that can be owned by anyone.  Sadly, I think the term's entrenched usage in Thai is an indicator of the cultural barrier Thais have to learning the current lingua franca.

And it really doesn't have to be that way at all.

If I own a guitar and I make copies of it and I give it to my non-English friends, then they will all own a copy of the guitar but the original will always be mine.

  4. Buying Russian gas is giving Putin billions that will be spent the Russian military that could one day be used against us. Trump is smart by stopping Russa get the funds it needs to modernise its military and to build the very nukes that are aimed at the West. Let us not forget Ukraine and the Russian nerve gas attack on British soil, just to name two among many instances of Putin's  belligerence. Right at this moment while you are sitting relaxing reading this post maybe enjoying a beer or two young men and woman from the NATO alliance are guarding our allies in the Baltic states. The last thing Germany and the West should do is give Russia the means to destroy us.

with all the defense cuts britains been punching above its weight for a while now.

It's not just the cuts, it is also about getting value for the money that is being spent. As things stand at the moment the British tax payer is being robbed blind by the defense industry. Just look at  France which gets good value for its defense Euros. Them compare the UK's gdp with that of Russia. If Russia can afford to spend more then so can the UK. The UK's elites will just have to take break from robbing their own country for a while so that our defenses can be rebuilt.

This doesn't look good. I hope the Iranians free the crew and the ship. Unlike other world leaders who give out bloated threats, the UK does not play. (Remember the Falklands?).

The UK had 35 frigates before the breakup of the Soviet Union. We now have 19. Consecutive British governments have degraded British military capacity across all arms of service to the extent where they are  almost negligible. So it is just as well we are in NATO and have those trident subs.

Well, then maybe we can see if Russia has sold or lent their S400 air defence system to Iran. From what's been getting reported those F-35's could be easy pickings.

Clearly Iran is in the right here. The only realistic action left for the Brit Twits is to get a credible 3rd party like Norway or Turkey to broker a settlement. A captured ship exchange. Maybe throw in a Spice Girls concert seeing the UK hi-jacked first. Don't hold your breath Boris waiting for the Oval Office draft dodger to bail you out. That ain't happening.

    Not necessarily.

    UPDATE:

Video: Farang thief at the checkout got 2,000 baht, Thai shopper tells Thaivisa

A Thai woman working in Pattaya has told Thaivisa how she lost 2,000 baht at a checkout at the Friendship Supermarket in South Pattaya.

    Full story: https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1105783-video-farang-thief-at-the-checkout-got-2000-baht-thai-shopper-tells-thaivisa/

So she was also short changed by the Thai on the till. It looks like it was not her day. Either that or she is lying about the second 1000 baht in which case maybe she deserved losing the 1000 baht in the first place.

  9. Maybe he has been ripped off by Thais for many years that he saw the chance to get his own back. Pattaya being the place it is. I'm not saying he did the right thing. One time I went to a Thai bar and one of the girls started to take the piss out of the fact that I was blinking. Later on she give me my bar bill that was one drink cheaper than what I had had and I said nothing thinking, that's karma bitch!
