  1. I have never been asked for a return ticket either by the Thai consulate issuing the Non IMM B visa or the Thai immigration upon arrrival. Even when arriving in Thailand on a tourist visa I have never been asked to show a return ticket. The Thai consulate abroad that issued my last business visa ONLY asked to see my flight itinerary; ie travel dates, airline booking etc!

    Hope this helps.

  2. ...I will nail my colours to the mast here, I think Aldhouse did it, but that is not the issue in this thread, the issue here is whether the evidence obtained by the Thai police is good enough, and is Thailand a fit and proper place for the UK to extradite one of their own to face trial. The evidence being put forward is full of holes and is enough to cast reasonable doubt and that is all that is needed.

This will not be the fault of aldhouse, longfellow, the UK legal system, this will fall squarely at the feet of the incompetent Thai police and the Thai legal system.

No, that is not all that is needed. All that is needed is for the judge to decide whether the evidence supplied to him would be sufficient to make a case requiring an answer if the proceedings were a summary trial in the UK. In making the decision the judge may treat any statement made by a person to a police officer or investigating officer as admissible evidence of a fact if direct oral evidence of the fact would be admissible.

From the evidence publically available, mainly the statements of the GF to the police, this threshold seems to have been met.

    TH

"If Aldhouse didn't do it.....then who did"?

Whats more surprising is how Aldhouse evaded capture and exited Thailand and boarded a flight to the UK from Cambodia, or wherever he departed from. How does a person leave the country when the police are hunting you?? And how does he pass immigration in the country of departure (assuming departure from Cambodia) without the proper entry stamps, visa, etc??

I guess timing is everything and perhaps the police failed in this instance to notify the border points in timely fashion, or not at all about the status of this wanted person.

Can anyone paint a scenario in which a wanted person, perhaps flagged on immigration data bases as a wanted criminal fugitve can evade apprehension as in this case? Just curious.

One further point, while Aldhouse's action in fleeing Thailand can be viewed as inflammatory against him, it can also be seen as a genuine fear of trying to navigate the Thai judicial system that offers very little in the way of rights for a criminal defendant?

Can anyone clarify if Aldhouse's appeal against extradition has been denied?

  3. How would they prosecute him in the UK when all the evidence and witnesses are in Thailand? Makes utterly no sense at all.

Agreed! And what crimes has he committed on British soil....NONE. He was charged in the jurisdiction where the crime occured and cannot be tried in the US or UK since no offense was committed in either of those nations. Persons of any nationality are subject to the local laws as in the case of this crime perpetrated in Phuket, Th. Most embassys warn travelers to foreign countries that thet are subject to local laws and prosecution in the country they are visiting. In summation; this crime committed in Thailand, was not committerd in the UK, or the USA and therefore no criminal jurisdiction applies except in Thailand.

  4. The US has absolutely no jurisdiction to have anything at all to do with the case.

His lawyers cannot go through the evidence with a fine tooth comb when arguing against extradition, that is what a trial is for. The extradition hearing does not have to consider if he murdered the guy beyond a reasonable doubt, that is for the Thai court to determine.

All the UK is concerned with is whether he has been charged, is there enough prima facie evidence to warrant that charge (not beyond reasonable doubt that he did it), and consider the human rights aspect.

If the UK doesn't extradite him then that is the end of the matter, the US can do nothing, unless of course they conduct an extraordinary rendition and have him tortured in Egypt then have him disappear in a black hole for a few years.

Yes, makes sense to me. That wikileaks dude who is the subject of an extradition warrant from the UK by Sweden is ONLY to interrogate him about the rape allegations. He has not formally been charged with a crime in Sweden but is only being extradited to be interviewed....if you can beleive what you read in the press.

  5. "The extradition shall not take place unless the evidence be found sufficient according to the laws of the State

applied to, either to justify the committal of the prisoner for trial, in case the crime had been committed in

the territory of the said State..."

The above quote is from Section 11 of:

TREATY BETWEEN THE UNITED KINGDOM AND SIAM RESPECTING THE

    EXTRADITION OF FUGITIVE CRIMINALS.

Sign at Bangkok, March 4, 1911.

(Ratifications exchanged at London, August 1, 1911.)

It's quite probable the Thai authorities have little or no evidence that would stand up in a UK court of law on a charge of murder (assuming the charges as laid are appropriate to the offense and can be prosecuted with a high probability of conviction) and therefore the subject/accused of extradition would not be compelled to be extradited. But of course, falsification of documents is pretty standard in TH. So, wait and see the outcome of the accused's appeal.

There are literally dozens of witnesses. CCTV footage of him in the initial fight, CCTV footage of him robbing the knives from the 7-11 and CCTV footage of him in the hotel where he stabbed the Marine. I am pretty sure even the most liberal of courts would call this enough evidence to bring the man to trial. Why would you make a comment about the Thais falsifying documents? It is all but a gurantee that this extradition is being driven by the US not the Thai government. I am not sure if you remember this initial reporting of this case, but it was hardly a quiet crime. This guy went on a drunken drug addled rampage through the streets wielding knives covered in blood, the murder was only the most heinous of his crimes that evening.

Why is hating Thailand such a passion of people who post on this board? If you are that unhappy in Thailand why do you stay?\\

No hate, no bias, just the facts. And, why would you assume any facts that are unsubstantiated? Reread your post, give it a little more thought, and then put the pen on the paper. Keep things clear and to the point objectively. Falsifying documents....in TH....who are you trying fool except yourself?

  7. Delta is the very, very worst--avoid!!!!

I purchased a business class ticket to Tokyo with United. When I checked in they bumped me to first class which was ok, i cannot complain much in this instance. The service on United was good! Again, cannot complain but i was in first class, and the times I took United business class to Tokyo enroute to Chicago was adequate, but not stellar! I have had better experience in First and Business class with Thai Airways and Air Canada. You pay a lot of money, so I would recommend United and/or Thai to USA!'

  8. Every young male thinks about sex and the mother is not conveying the proper message! Carrying condoms does not promote sexual encounters! Condoms prevent the transmission of STD's. Would his mother prefer he have unprotected sex? She is living and thinking in the stone age. These youngsters are going to think about , and have sex....using condoms for protection is only prudent! The mother needs to be brought up to speed with the real world!

  9. One can only speculate about the circumstances leading up to this tragic event. Suicide....NO WAY!

I have been to Phitsanulok and never experienced or felt a threat to my safety. It has been said that the attitudes of Thai's in the central and northern regions are generally passive, friendly and and "somewhat" honest.

Sad case indeed, and I certainly hope the perps are apprehended and prosecuted!

Feel for the victim and his family!

  10. Your multiple non-O is finished. It seems you are currently on an extension of stay for 60 days based on having a Thai wife and children.

You can apply for 1 year extension of stay before these 60 days are finished if you live with your wife and children and:

    - can show an income of 40,000 a month (income from within Thailand requires tax documents and WP, income from abroad a confirmation letter from your embassy).

    OR

    - can show 400,000 in a bank account in Thailand in your name

It is also possible to get an extension of stay based on your job, if you qulify. That depends on income and kind of job.

    Edit:

Money in the bank must be there for at least 2 months!!!

I would check on the bank deposit requirement! I read a few months back in the Pattaya News that the required funds (800K / 400k) CAN be in a foreign bank, outside of Thailand. No need to show proof of funds in a Thai bank, any bank will comply with the requirements now. Correct me if i am wrong, but i think this is the case as of a change in policy implemented a few months ago.

  11. I remember reading that in Argentina that people die most everyday from elevator accidents. It is a country with many smaller older buildings, and older elevators. Yet we don't hear about elevator accidents very often here in Thailand. Happily, there were no deaths. They really were lucky.

I live in an 8 floor condo unit in Jomtien and heard a horrendous sound one afternoon when the lift plunged, free-fell, etc from the 8th to the 4th floor just after a person exited on the 8th floor. The lift took two days to repair and still has many problems. There are two lifts in the complex with one out of service for the past 2 months. They cannot seem to repair it properly. The life is manufactured by "Eastern Group" and seems to be rife with problems. Most residents use the stairs now. If an elevator actually did free-fall for 4 floors ....you would sustain serious injury and most likely death, 10 floors.....NO CHANCE baby!

  12. Buy your cigs here....they are about as cheap you will find in most airports i've been in. The wine....thats a different story as it is pricey, more than double what you will pay elsewhere.

Ive got some friends coming to Thailand soon and they have

    Asked me ….

Are we allowed to bring 2 liters of alcohol per person into the country? ( Wine )

    And ……

Cigarettes, Do you know how many per person we're allowed to take into the country??

Ive got no idea…. So can any one tell me please…?

    Thanks …. Mumbo

  13. well folks; guess AoT, KP, and whoever else is involved has screwed things up REAL good. I recently took a flight out from BKK airport and felt it was too risky to venture into the duty free shops and thus avoided going into Kings Power. They will continue to lose sales based on the warnings and publicity. It is just too risky as we all know how corrupt this entire nation is! I for one will NEVER set foot into ANY shop in bkk airport, the airport AND the country is going down the toilet! The airport and the LOST (land of smiling thieves) is DONE....done by their own ineptness and greed!
