  1. I'm 65, in normal health. I don't smoke, drink rarely, and do some exercise.  I'm a bit overweight, but no more than maybe 5 kg.

One morning, a month ago, I woke up with serious pain in both feet and both hands, despite having done nothing in particular the day before. The location of the pain in each extremity was different, and seemed to me to be a recurrence of a particular minor or trivial injury that had occurred in the preceding month or so.

After a couple of days, these pains began to subside, only to be replaced by serious pain in both knees and both ankles. After about three days since the onset, I was unable to stand without assistance, and also needed assistance to get in or out of a car.

At this point, I went to a hospital.  I was diagnosed with gout, given a painkiller, a muscle relaxant, and a gout medicine.

Reading about gout, I decided that I didn't have any of the predisposing factors, nor any of the normal symptoms of gout.  But, thinking the gout medicine would do me no harm, I took it for three days, then stopped because it was causing serious diarrhea, as I had been warned it might.  I carried on with the other two prescriptions, and after five or six days, was 80% recovered.  Even now, I still have minor pains in different places in each hand.

I want to get a second opinion, but don't know where to start.  Does anyone have any guess as to what I might have had ? What sort of doctor might I discuss this with ?  I don't want to go to a doctor or hospital which will test me for everything under the sun, whether because they have no idea what I had, or because they make money on every test.

  2. To the OP:  Is  this a case where you are trying to get some weird qualification recognized as being equivalent to a Bachelor's degree ?

Years ago, I worked with a British woman who had a Diploma from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, or some such place.  She claimed it was equivalent to a Bachelor's degree.  Easy for her to say !  After several months, she must have got a letter from whatever part of the British government adjudicates such matters, and she was able to get a Work Permit.  As best as I can remember, the adjudication process didn't cost her any money.

  3. Ah yes, "Years ago..."....  In March 2018 I walked into the Labour Office and cancelled my own Work Permit, simply by telling them I wanted to do so. (no letter from my employer). I may have been one of the last who was able to do so.  I recall reading shortly afterward that other people were having trouble trying to do the same, and were being told they needed a letter from their employer.

  4. You can't "transfer" the Work Permit, because it is not yours, it is the school's.  When you get a new job, your new school will have to apply for a new W.P. to employ you.

You are right; the necessary paperwork can all be done in one day, with close co-operation from both old and new employers, and assuming both old and new jobs are in the same province.  I did it once, and had it all done in half day.  Have your new employer consult with your current employer before proceeding.  You are just the commodity, there is nothing you can do yourself, beyond trying to ensure good communication between the schools.

The above comment assumes that you are quitting one full-time job and moving to another.

Bus 166 Extra has a sign on the front windows in English indicating that is going to immigration (Government complex) and stop at the beginning of victory monument bus stop at the beginning of Phayathai road side, first lane, meanwhile the other 166 bus will stop at the end of the third lane of the same bus stop. There are two buses The air condition blue bus cost 22 Baht and the red one cost 10 Baht . If you take the buss that will leave exactly at 08.00 AM, make sure to be there few minutes before and you will get a sit.

The same bus will leave Immigration office from the same spot where you dropped, back to victory monument but you may have to wait a little bit.

Can you clarify this re the four quadrants of the Victory Monument bus stops; the NE quadrant, the SE quadrant, the SW quadrant and the NW quadrant.  Normally buses stop at the last quadrant before they leave the Victory Monument circle.

  6. I am a non-smoker.  A friend, who is a light smoker, has just been diagnosed as having a  likely stomach ulcer, and been told to quit smoking.  Are nicotine gums available in. Thailand, at pharmacies or elsewhere ? What term or brandname does one ask for ?  He is in Bangkok.  Thank you.

  7. Bus # 510 goes out as far as the Thamassat University campus, approximately 6 km S.E. of your destination.  I have no idea re frequency of service.  Look at transitbangkok.com , you can find its exact route and decide where to board it. I assume you can find a taxi, or summon a Grab taxi there at Thamassat.  On something like this, I would recommend that if at all possible, you do a dry run/mock trip, to give yourself an idea of the travel time.

  8. The 90 day clock stops when you leave the country.  It restarts when you re-enter.  Note:  It is actually an 89 day report.  The day you are stamped in counts as Day 1, not Day 0.

Filing the TM 30 when you moved does not affect your "90 Day" calendar, unless you are dealing with one of the few Immigration offices which hand you a new 90 Day slip when you do the TM 30.

  9. As teenagers, my brothers and I suffered from severe acne.  Nothing seemed to help.  One day, quite by accident, I discovered kelp tablets.  These are a health supplement, not a drug.  Don't be afraid to use a high dosage.  Available in a few pharmacies in Thailand, and online. I still use them at age 65, though taking a much reduced dosage.  I pay somewhere around B 700 - 800 for a bottle that lasts me about 6 mo.  For severe cases, you might have to spend that monthly, at least in the beginning.

  10. The Immigration office is Bangkok, to where the person moved in Late May.

    Chronology:

March 10 - last 90 day report was done in previous province of residence; slip received indicated that next 90 day report is due June 10

April 3 - person left Thailand

May 3 - person returned to Thailand

May 16 - person moved from previous province to Bangkok, and began a new job on May 17

July 21 - person returned to old province, and cancelled old Extension of Stay

July 25 -  person received new temporary extension of stay re new job

July 31 - 89 days from May 3, so if a new 90 day report is needed, a 7 day grace period remains

Aug. 5 - person will be returning to Immigration to receive a further 10 months on extension of stay

Questions:  Must he do a 90 day report this week, to avoid a fine ?

Is a 90 day report necessary at all, since he has a new Extension of Stay ?
