  1. A friend has asked about the exact procedure when cancelling his Work Permit in his "old" province.  After cancelling the Work Permit and receiving his Taw Daw 10 (cancellation receipt), is he then required to visit the Immigration Office of his "old province to inform them that he has cancelled ? If yes, what exactly should he say or ask for. (His current Extension of Stay for Employment will expire in November.)

Or is it better that he not go in to his "old" Immigration office, but proceed instead to his "new" Work Permit office, and then to his "new" Immigration office.

Note that due to geography, it will not be possible to visit the "old" and "new" offices on the same day.  We are likely talking about a Friday/Monday situation here.

  2. I have checked the pinned topic above, and this question does not seem to be included.

I spoke to True's Call Centre who told me I can not cancel over the phone, and should take my passport "to any True shop".

I just came from the nearest True shop, who told me to call the Call Centre.  When I dialed the call Centre and handed her my phone, she refused to speak to them.

I live in Isarn, but am moving to Bangkok 36 hrs. from now.  There may not be time to sort this out before then.  Can anyone advise me a way forward in Bangkok?  Is there a True office which seems competent ?  I will be living on the Thonburi side, but can travel if necessary.  I would prefer an office near an MRT or BTS station. Thank you.

  3. I need someone to move household effects from Surin (City) to Bangkok.  Approximate distance 520 km.  I will pay for overnight hotel accommodation on whichever end it might be required.  I actually have a relatively small number of items, perhaps 8 - 10.  A covered truck is needed because of the rain; an SUV or large car might also do.  I am hoping to get this done by May 31.  Please reply by Private Mail.  Thank you.

  4. The official first day of school for government schools is May 17.  For private schools, it could be a little earlier. In any case it should not be an issue.  What would the alternative be ?  Make them wait 11 1/2 months for the start of the next school year ?

Make sure you have report cards to indicate what was their last completed grade.

  5. I've had a conversation with a foreigner who is considering whether to come to Thailand to work as a teacher.  I am not talking about someone who would be working at an international school.  In all likelihood, she would be working at a normal Thai government or private K - 12 school.

Here is the issue:  She has a 4 1/2 yr. old daughter who will turn 6 in Aug. 2023, so ready to start Grade 1 in May 2024.

Here are my questions on her behalf:

      1. Can a foreign child attend an ordinary Thai government school, if beginning in Grade 1 ?

      2.  Might the answer be different if the school is a private one ?  I'm asking about the sort of private schools that are operated by the Christian churches in various places around Thailand.  I am not asking about international schools, which I am sure she can't afford.

      3.  If a foreign child is admissable at all, is there an applicable admission test at the public schools ?  I am aware that the private schools, even the relatively inexpensive ones, have admission tests.

Their projected arrival date is October 2022.  With 15 - 17 months before starting Grade 1, I think a child of that age could become quite fluent in spoken and even basic written Thai; probably on a par with her native born peers.

I would also appreciate discussion of any aspect of this that I might be overlooking.

  6. I have been involved in education in Thailand for over two decades, and never seen such a list. The Bangkok Post used to (maybe still does ?) publish an annual magazine featuring international schools.  An online version might be available ?   I realize though that this magazine probably features the sort of school where your daughter is now, not the type you are looking for.

It might be beneficial to state your daughter's grade level, and your preferred geographic area.  If Bangkok, be specific.  It is a big city.

  7. I once had an eight month Non-Immigrant "B" visa because I had an eight month contract.  I was working as a school teacher, and had joined the school in mid school year.  The school wanted to synchronize me with all of the other foreign teachers.

Though in the case of the OP, better to get a 1 year visa.  This would offer more flexibility in terms of exact departure and return dates.

By The Post Office, any post office.

However they may not take the suitcases but require you to put the items in a Cardboard Box.

I have used them, very efficient and have tracking Plus you can also send a Motorbike Via the Post.

Yes.  Mention "Logispost" at the counter where they sell cardboard boxes.  We sent a motorbike once.  Like Siam Bruce, I don't know if they will take the suitcases, or ask you to repack,

You cannot change non immigrant visa categories while in the country at immigration. The only way is to leave the country to get a non-b visa or enter visa exempt and apply for it at immigration.

You could change the reason for your extension from retirement to working. But the problem is getting a work permit application done to get a work permit application approval document to apply for the new extension while on a retirement extension.

Agreed.  When I did it in 2016, I had to leave the country.  I don't know if there has been any relaxation on this re Covid.

  10. Does anyone have current information re the possibility of doing a Visa trip from Thailand to Penang and back, for a double vaxed person?

-testing & medical requirements in both directions

      -quarantine requirements

      - any travel companies offering travel packages, overland or by air ? (if so, please specify city of origin and mode of travel.  I am assisting someone in Bangkok who might prefer to travel independently to some city in the south, then join a travel package from there.)

I have read a news story indicating that a relaxation of the border crossing rules is coming on Mar. 15.  His proposed travel would be shortly  after that date.  Thank you.
