  1. No problem. Mine blew up after lightning. I replaced mine with an Asus DSL-N12U_C1 Modem/Router in just a few minutes. 3bb technical help desk should be able to tell you how to obtain the setup parameters including login and password. Print these details off and keep handy. Then access the new router's setup page which is a web page. Typically via the HTTP line it will be http://192.168.1.1 . Press Enter from the resulting display type in the new Login/ Password which will be in the manual supplied/ Type the same details as for the old mode/router. Save and reboot and should be on line again. Incidentally, some newer modem/routers come with a setup CD which largely automates it, You may even find that 3bb can supply one all setup for your ADSL connection.

  2. To hold an Air Operator Certificate, He (the Company) must provide evidence of being a fit and proper person to qualify. This includes possession of sufficient operating capital to guard against disruption to service and having operational and engineering competencies to ensure air worthiness of its aircraft and there are many other details.

The timing is interesting since Thai is at the beginning of serious restructuring to avoid bankruptcy and is assured of survival only by the Thai Government. Where it not for this the Airline could not continue operating as credit lines might easily be closed for airport fees, landings, navigation, fuel and spare parts. There is a conflict of interest because Thai International, AOT (Airports of Thailand) and the DCA (Department of Civil Aviation are all under the political and financial control of the Thai Government. The ICAO probably is concerned at this because the Thai International could be given a softer ride than private carriers regarding the granting of the Air Operators Certificate. Given the level of corruption in Thailand, the worry at least, is that other Carriers might acquire the Certificate under the counter. There is no evidence in the public domain that any Thai Carrier has engaged in impropriety of this type, but if it did emerge, then this would be very serious indeed.

We are probably only days away from announcements that Thailand will formally request foreign assistance and face saving will just be too expensive in this instance. Either Singapore or Australia are likely as those Countries are the most credible in the Region.

  3. Never give up on the Country of your birth and keep your home there. If your financial resources allow swap your cold Winters in Europe and rent six Months in Thailand.

Regulations in Thailand are forever changing and always be prepared to lose everything you bring. Don't be tempted by a pretty Girl to end up as meat on the table for herself and extended Family. If you do marry make sure the Lady is well educated so that you do not spend the Evenings looking at walls and ceilings and really not communicating.

Away from the big Cities Thailand does not offer anything except better weather and the attractions of normal tourism.

If you are an experienced and talented Business Person then much of this can be turned on its head. There is serious money to be made here but don't buy a bar. Often they don't make money but are a front for long term residence.

  4. Years ago I did the circular route from Krabi towards Trang then branched of to Thung Son and joined the Bangkok Road to Surat. Stayed the night there and then Westward stopping at the Ratchaprapha Dam and Khao Sot National Park. You'll need another night stop for these two but well worth it. Then set off to Takua Pa where the 2004 TSunami washed a large Fishing boat 2k.m into the Town Centre. Then hugging the coastal road South for about 30 minutes before arriving at Khao Lak. Another 40 minutes later you can pass the Town of Thai Muang and if you wish, cross the Sarasin Bridge onto Phuket. These days you are better top avoid the long detour to Thung Son and instead join the excellent A44 Highway near Ao Luk to Surat. We enjoyed it very much - only one Hotel in Khao Lak in those days and o'h that hard seat of the Honda Wave!

  5. Folks,

Where can I obtain a compatible (remanufactured) Brother HL-2130 black toner. They cost about £10 back in the UK but here in Thailand I can find only a Brother branded toner which costs around 2000 Baht - that's about what a new printer costs. I would normally ask Amazon UK to ship it out but the Airlines prohibit personal shipping of these items due to the Bomb laden toner being shipped from Yemen a couple of years back.

    Thanks everyone!
