  1. absolute nonsense, I cannot think of how this could be even a remote possibility unless he plugged the headphones into a wall socket and even then it still seems impossible

There is no earthing system in thailand and the live and neutral cables are often plugged in the wrong way around, making the neutral on the appliance actually live.

I have often seen microphones live due to poor electrical systems on sound systems.

BUT most earphones are padded which forms an insulated barrier, unless he was wearing cheap in the ear phones

  2. Isn't it the male version of being a bar girl? .... become a Monk for an easy/lazy/free life? ......

Obviously not taring everybody with the same brush. there are also good Monks out there.

no, but that's quite a reach. Most foreigners will view monks as lazy because monks aren't a part of their home countries culture (let's face it though they're adding to that rep by being deviants). They just don't have the desire or ability to understand.

In the UK we have monks But they are self sufficient and do not beg. They give up modern technology and live a simple life practicing their religion.

Thai monks are just parasites that prey on peoples generosity and gullibility.

You would never see a British monk with the latest iphone

LOL, British Thai monks are better than Thai Thai monks.

You obviously know little about why and how the monks are chosen to go to the UK.

You obviously don't know that many men join the monkhood for a week or less. These are the ones you usually see with the iphones etc.

Let's face it, you know nothing about being a monk, so just put a sock in it!

I've been a monk and assure you it is not an easy way out, it was very hard work physically, mentally and spiritually.

I was talking about real monks usually British not Thai imports. Try reading the post before you comment.

  4. In fact people as young as 15 can marry if the parents agree but the matter may need to be ratified by a court so it is clearly understood that both sides agree. Permission in such cases might be given when a pregnancy is involved.

I would've though a lengthy jail sentence would be given if a pregnancy was involved in a 15 year old's marriage...

The legal age of consent is 15.

In fact I believe the LEGAL age of consent in Thailand is 18 .

  5. I don't know why so many people complain about the present government when as we all know it is the monks that rule Thailand.

The monks in Thailand need to be put in their place and reminded of Buddha's teachings, which very few materialistic monks follow now.

Monks and temples are all about making money ..... BUT for whom ? It most certainly is not for the poor or needy.

  6. Go after the corrupt officials who allowed this in the first place or the practice of stealibg public land will never stop. In Kalasin pavement businesses are expanding There is no control and many pavements near schools are completely blocked by food sellers which means students have to walk in the roads so these selfish people can make money.... The police are a joke and the only time you see them is at checkpoints with their hands out. Police patrols do not exist in Thailand

  7. I knew a Thai lady who was about to send a large amount of money to a transport company to retrieve what she thought was a box full of cash sent to her by her US soldier suitor working in the middle east. Customs duty needed to be paid. She wanted to borrow from my wife to get this box. The company sent her x-ray pictures of the box showing large amounts of cash.

She didn't want to believe it was a Nigerian scam until I showed her some old Thaivisa threads about some very similar schemes. She reported it to the police

    .

I seem to recall a Nigerian was arrested some months back in relation to this scam.. This lady may be the one on the phone from the fake transport company seeking the duty. She added realism to the story.

I have had similar experiences with gullible Thais . One such incident the Thai ( a teacher ) was so angry with me for exposing a scam where she would send money in return for large sums of money. I told her to think about it and would she give large sums of money to a stranger ? After showing her many case files on the internet about Nigerian scams she reluctantly believed me but hated me for bursting her bubble.

Another case was similar to yours about a packet left at customs in Hong Kong and money had to be paid to release this package. My friend was scared because she knew nothing about a package but was going to pay the " custom fees " for fear of being arrested. I managed to convince her the sender always pays the customs fees not the reciever, and it was highly unlikely to be genuine. I told her if they contacted her again tell them her lawyers were dealing with it ... Nothing more was heard from them.

  8. The Thai police actually needed a re-enactment of this crime ? The Thai police really are a sick load of b*****ds , is this how they get their kicks?

In most civilized countries police are literate and can write detailed reports and have no need for this farsical game every time a crime is commited.

Can Thai police actually read and write or do they always need a picture drawn for them ?
