  1. Apparently not content with the magazine only, the square-headed one has now proudly proclaimed the audible version for the "Voice of Thaksin" is going global...

    The former Prime Minister Thaksin...

also stated that he planned to launch a radio station, using the name “Thaksin Light Radio", to air globally on 1st September, with DJs broadcasting to each community in every province.

  2. Newin will go to court on Monday: Boonjong

Newin Chidchob, leader of the Friend of Newin faction, will certainly go to the Supreme Court on Monday to hear the court’s verdict on the alleged rubber saplings corruption case, Deputy Interior Minister Boonjong Wongtrairat insisted on Saturday.

The Supreme Court will rule on the corruption case involving Newin and 43 others over the Agriculture Ministry's purchase of 90 million rubber saplings between 2004 and 2006. Newin was Deputy Agriculture Minister in the Thaksin Shinawatra administration at the time.

Mr Boonjong also affirmed that Newin had never gone to Singapore to meet Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan to discuss plan to deal with the red-shirted supporters who will present petition for Thaksin pardon on Monday as speculated by the Spokesman of the opposition Puea Thai Party. He and other key members of the Bhum Jai Thai Party, a main coalition partner in the Democrat-led government, will go to give moral support to Newin at

  3. Speakers to meet on charter change

Senate Speaker Prasopsuk Boondej said on Saturday that he is ready to meet with House Speaker Chai Chidchob next week to discuss constitutional amendments.

Mr Prasopsuk said all six charter change recommendations by the parliamentary Committee for Reconciliation, Political Reform, and Constitution Amendment should be all tabled for consideration of the Parliament.

“It will not be suitable to cut off any of the six proposals as they were considered by the House’s panel”, the Senate Speaker stated.

  4. General Chavalit won’t join petitioning

Lt Gen Phirat Sawaphirat, a close aide of former prime minister Chavalit Yongchaiyuth denied as groundless the report that General Chavalit would be one of the eight representatives of the red-shirts to present the petition for a Royal Pardon for fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra on Monday.

"It is not possible for General Chavalit to do so. The ex-premier is duty-bound to protect the monarchy, not to create any problem to the high institution”, Lt Gen Phirat said on Saturday, adding that he personally considered the petition for Thaksin pardon by leaders of the United front for Democracy against Dictatorship is inappropriate.

Maj Gen Sornchai Montriwat, another close aide of General Chavalit took the same tone. He said General Chavalit will never do that as he has been sticking to his “middle ring” policy and thus he will not take sides. UDD leaders plan to present the petition to the Office of His Majesty's Principal Private Secretary inside the Grand Palace at about 1.00pm on Monday amidst

  5. Hammered, in addition to the facts in Le Fevre'e report, I heard an additonal piece of information, that puts all those individual actions of the "Governors" into context.

Apparently, all Governors were given marching orders to produce 100,000 signatures from their province.

Apart from the as-yet-uncorroborated "facts" in the OP, do you have any corroboration or even the source of your latest addition?

Additionally, a response from the questions put forth to you yesterday, that remain unresponded to, would be nice.

  6. He said an official of the Royal Household Bureau will wait at the Wiset Chaisri gate of the Grand Palace, the location of the bureau, and red shirt demonstrators will not be allowed through the gate to reach the Bureau.
    I have 2 questions in all of this is;

    1. If the petition is illegal / not valid / not in accordance with protocol etc. as some are saying, then why is the governemnt asking people to remove their names from it should they feel the need to do so and why is the Royal Household prepared to accept it at the gate of the Palace?

    2. Why isn't it being ignored as it should be if it is illegal / not valid / not in accordance with protocol etc?

    Any simple explanations please.

The article didn't specifically say they would "accept" the petition from whomever presents it.

Additionally, from another thread in which Chavalit declined Thaksin's offer to be the presenter...

The source said the UDD was lobbying a former military leader or a senior bureaucrat to act as its representative following a report that the Office of His Majesty's Principal Private Secretary would not allow the UDD to hand over the petition at the office premises.
  7. Court to review EC ruling banning Senators

The Supreme Administrative Court will review an Election Commission ruling disqualifying 16 Senators for constitutional violations, a source says. The disqualified Senators have submitted four separate petitions with the court asking it to negate the EC's decision on grounds that it was unlawful.

The court is awaiting statements from the Commission defending its ruling, the source said. The Commission disqualified the 16 Senators after finding them guilty of violating the constitution by holding stakes in media organisations and companies doing business with the state.

The ruling has been forwarded to the Constitution Court for legal review.

  8. Sondhi links hit attempt suspect to DSI

Police officer worked for Department Chief, he says

Sondhi Limthongkul, a key People's Alliance for Democracy leader, has exposed what he says are links between a prime suspect in the attempt on his life and the Department of Special Investigation.

Mr Sondhi yesterday said he had obtained a DSI letter showing that Worawut Mungsanti, a suspect in the assassination attempt, had worked for DSI Chief Thawee Sodsong. The letter, dated Feb 18, appointed three DSI investigation teams and Police Corporal Worawut was a member of the third one working for the DSI's Information Technology Office, said Mr Sondhi, who was attacked by gunmen on April 17 near Bang Khun Phrom intersection on Samsen Road in Bangkok.

Worawut is one of three suspects who have had arrest warrants issued for them over their suspected involvement in the attempt to kill Mr Sondhi. The officer was posted to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) before he was assigned to the DSI. But the DSI denied the officer had worked for it. Mr Sondhi said the letter provided clear evidence showing the accused officer had worked for the DSI Chief. Many parties were involved in the April 17 shooting attack, he added.

  9. Police plan response for UDD petition handover

Police are ready to secure the capital when Thaksin Shinawatra supporters file a petition for his pardon at the Royal Household Bureau and opponents gather at the nearby Supreme Court on Monday.

Acting National Police Chief Wichien Pojphosri yesterday said he had discussed a security plan with the Bangkok police, the 1st Army, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, and the Royal Household Bureau.

He said an official of the Royal Household Bureau will wait at the Wiset Chaisri gate of the Grand Palace, the location of the bureau, and red shirt demonstrators will not be allowed through the gate to reach the Bureau. Police General Wichien asked demonstrators to maintain order and warned them not to approach the Grand Palace in huge numbers.

  10. Thaksin comes clean on divorce

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has accepted for the first time that his divorce was politically motivated. He said on his Facebook webpage that he divorced his wife Potjaman at the Thai consulate in Hong Kong in November last year to protect his family.

"I wish to answer one question which worries me, and that is why my status still shows me as married. This is because in my heart I still feel married and only divorced to save my wife and her family the shame and trials of actions against myself. I hope to try and find more time soon," he wrote on his Facebook page.

Thaksin also talks and tweets to die-hard fans via Thaksinlive.com and at his Twitter page as well. His Twitter now has 13,359 followers, including his daughters Pinthongta and Paethongtarn. "I'm so glad that a lot of people are following my Twitter. I don't know how to thank all of you, but I will tell you something fun in the

The Supreme Administrative Court has accepted for consideration a petition filed by 16 Senators found by the Election Commission to have breached the constitution by holding shares in companies granted state concessions or linked to the media, a public relations official of the court said on Friday.

  12. Top officials oppose UDD petition

A statement of top government officials voicing opposition to the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship's plan to file a petition to His Majesty the King on Monday seeking a Royal Pardon for former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was released on Friday by the Office of the Civil Service Commission.

The statement was signed by 29 state officials holding the posts of Permanent Secretary of various ministries and equivalent. It said the petition seeking a pardon for Thaksin is clearly a political issue.

Regardless of how a decision on the issue may be made, it would only cause suspicion to the public over neutrality of the Royal institution and put His Majesty's righteousness in doubt, said the statement.

    Interior Minister Chavarat Charnvirakul

Source: National News Bureau of Thailand

Interior Minister : over 6 million oppose petition for Thaksin

BANGKOK, 13 August 2009 (NNT) – Over 6 million people have signed their names opposing the petition to seek a royal pardon for fugitive former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, said Interior Minister Chavarat Charnvirakul.

Mr. Chavarat encouraged the people who had innocently signed to support the petition to withdraw their names at the booths erected by the Ministry. He said he had instructed governors in provinces to continually collect people’s names.

He asserted that the Ministry’s operation was not to compete against the movement of the pro-Thaksin groups, noting that it was the Ministry’s core policy to protect the royal institution.

  14. Graft verdict on rubber sapling case might be postponed: prosecution lawyer

The Monday's verdict session for the rubber sapling case is likely to be delayed for 30 days because some of the 44 defendants might be a no-show, prosecution lawyer Jessada Anujaree said on Friday.

Jessada voiced suspicion that certain defendants might have fled the country in order to elude punishment.

"It has been speculated for the past two months that certain defendants will not appear at the verdict session in order to have the option of escaping if convicted," he said.

In a number of past graft cases, defendants opted to flee instead of facing the judicial decision, he said. The past fugitives included a former public health minister, a former deputy interior minister, and an infamous kamnan in Chonburi.

Under the court procedures, all 44 defendants in the case must be present during the verdict session.

In case of a no-show, the presiding judge is obligated to delay the reading of the verdict for 30 days.

In the second no-show, the judge will hand down the decision in absentia.

It is a common defence tactic for a no-show to avoid imprisonment.

The list of defendants included former Cabinet members, such as Newin Chidchob and Somkid Jatusripitak, and several senior agriculture officials.

Pandemic A(H1N1) active inside Bang Kwang Central Prison

    By John Le Fevre

BANGKOK: -- A British national in Thailand’s infamous Bang Kwang Central Prison has written to the charity Prisoners Abroad asking if it or the British Embassy in Bangkok has plans to pay for the flu treatment drug Tamiflu (also sold under the generic name oseltamivir), for jailed Brits in Thailand.

According to the prisoner, who requested his name not be divulged, as of July 13 two prisoners and one prison guard had died from the pandemic A(H1N1) virus, originally termed swine flu, with at least one other guard at that time “seriously ill” in hospital.

  16. Academics oppose pardon request

An academic from Chulalongkorn University handed a list of 5,000 names of lecturers, students and people to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva through the deputy government spokesman to show the opposition against the red-shirt group's plan to seek a Royal Pardon for ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

Assistant Professor Dr Tul Sitthisomwong of the Faculty of Medicine presented the list to Wachara Kannikar to give encouragement to the government and to campaign for the general public so they understand the correct process in submitting the petition for a royal pardon.

Accompanied the name list was an open letter. The academic demanded Thaksin to tell his supporters to stop seeking petition for him because it is illegal to do so. Thaksin has the right to seek the petition if he does it himself, according to the letter. To love Thaksin is not wrong, the letter said, but to use that popularity in breaking the rule of law and regulations must not be done.

  17. Chart Thai Pattana Party: Amend Article 190 first

Chart Thai Pattana, a party in the coalition government, on Friday called for the Democrat Party to initiate an amendment to Article 190 of the 2007 constitution first before other articles, saying it has caused problems in the country's administration. Article 190 requires the government to seek approval from parliament before signing an agreement with another country.

Vachara Kannikar, the CTP Spokesman, said the article has caused administrative problems because it is not clear what kinds of agreements require approval from parliament. There should be a specific organic law for the government to deal with international agreeements, he said.

Mr Vachara said that he, as a Deputy Government Spokesman who attends every Cabinet meeting, has found that almost every matter related to other countries is unnecessarily required to get parliamentary approval. He said although the CTP wants to see many other articles in the constitution amended, including those involving MPs, Senators and political parties, it is of the opinion that what should be amended or revoked first is Article 190.

Ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra's phone-in is expected on Monday coinciding with the red-shirt rally at Sanam Luang to form a march to submit a petition seeking a Royal Pardon for him at the Royal Palace, organisers said on Friday.

"Thaksin wants to thank his supporters," Pheu Thai Party MP Jatuporn Prompan, one of the organisers, said.

The red shirts will turn out in full force at the peaceful rally, Jatuporn said, adding they are expected to stay away from the blue-shirt crowds scheduled to rally at the Supreme Court compound opposite Sanam Luang.

  20. Le Fevre's article restores some faith in the integrity of this board. This is an excellent attempt at balanced journalism by "Thai Visa News". I commend them for it.

This subject matter will be increasingly corroberated in days to come. There were just too many involved and too much pressure exerted. Even 'Government Officials' pro-government inclinations are sorely tested by such arm twisting. It wont take much of a journalist's efforts in the near future to expose more details.

I just hope that all this 'smoke and noise' doesn't detract from the "legitimate" Citizen's supplication going forward and being considered solely on its' merits without all these frantic Govt'l illegitimate counter-measures clouding the process.

These coercive Govt. tactics have been observed on a broad front in this area for over a week now, but I didn't expect the English Language Media to report it.............But they did.

Be appreciative of this you Farangs, and thankful for some balance.
