  1. Do you mean like "Member # 1" which was never honest at any point in time?

there is no justification for your claim that my title was not honest, as I did not reveal my numbering criteria to you.

anyhow you have somewhat redeemed yourself by updating the moniker but nevertheless I don't know how long you would have continued with this purely egotistical "number 2" falsehood had I not pointed it out.

Well, as the change in number of posts status only occurred today, your diligent observation is noteworthy.

As for your own Member # 1 claim, it was never honest under the normal conditions one might associate with someone being considered Member # 1, such as membership join date, posting numbers, thread starting, etc.... and with your refusal to specify under just what circumstance you claim to be Member # 1, the Forum members can only imagine what your self-perceived Member # 1 status referred to.

  2. so says the man with the # 1 Member moniker... :)

btw, what's it say under Classifieds? Is it a person?

Can you find nothing worth posting about?

Which is more beneficial to the Forum? My "cutting and pasting" a percentage of my posts to the news or your trolling?

just do the right thing and change your title to "forums number 3 top poster" instead of making false and egotistical claims.

Do you mean like "Member # 1" which was never honest at any point in time?

but yes, I will update my moniker to reflect the honest reality.

  3. so says the "forums number 2 poster"

Merely stating an easily provable fact.... but that's something I realize you don't seem to care much about. :D

    number 2 poster, WRONG!!!!!

you are number 3. There is a poster called classifieds with more posts than you as of now and with an average of 37.36 per day you will be cutting and pasting like crazy to catch him, then Dr Pat Pong (is he really a doctor and does he have proof???) at 35000+.

    sorry about your ego lol

  4. SET boss warns of threats to economy

The red-shirts' petition seeking a Royal Pardon for former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and continuing political instability could slow economic recovery, Stock Exchange of Thailand Chairman Pakorn Malakul Na Ayudhya said on Monday.

Mr Pakorn said the country's gross domestic product had improved since the global economy showed signs of recovery. The United States economy had bottomed out and Thailand's economy might see weak positive growth in the fourth quarter of this year, he said.

"But a negative factor that may threaten economic recovery is the volatile political situation. This includes the pardon petition for Thaksin and the government's stability," the SET Chairman said.

The Democrat Party's branch office in Klong Toey was sprayed with bullets about 1.50am Monday. There were no injuries.

  7. Meanwhile, and only as a side note, 536 Million Baht is stolen in a separate Saudi royalty jewelry theft case...

    Saudi Princess loses a fortune

Rome - Burglars made off with jewels and cash worth 11 million euros ($15.6 million) from the hotel room of a Saudi princess in Sardinia, Italians newspapers reported Sunday, sparking a diplomatic incident.

It was the biggest heist from Saudi royalty since Kriangkrai Techamong, a Thai worker stole a fabled blue diamond and a 90kg bag of other jewellery from the wife of the future king of the country.

Sardinia is a large island belonging to Italy, and about 200km off the west coast of the country. It has many luxury resorts, and Premier Silvio Berlusconi owns property on the island.

"The thieves used a master key. In 10 minutes at dinner time, without making any noise, they managed to remove the safe from a suite occupied by the Saudi princess," who was not named, the daily La Stampa reported.

The safe was only fixed with silicon to the wall into which it was embedded, it said.

According to the daily La Republica, the burglary sparked a diplomatic incident.

"A military official from the Saudi embassy arrived in Sardinia and the Italian secret services and diplomats from both countries have been involved."

A Moroccan businessman also had his room burgled in another luxury hotel on the Costa Smeralda, the most chic resort area on the island, where Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi also owns a luxury villa. Using a similar technique, thieves pulled the safe out of the wall and got away with around 150,000 euros worth of jewels and money.

Both burglaries were carried out this week. The two hotels belong to the same chain, Iti Hotels.

Investigators suspect they were the work of an expert gang, probably from abroad, helped by someone with inside knowledge, who had worked in both establishments.

A third burglary was carried out in a hotel in Portofino, on Italy's northwest coast, where a German businessman had the safe stolen from his room, containing a million euros worth of jewellery and 3,000 in cash, according to Il Corriere della Sera.

  8. 'Arab man' is the latest twist in Saudi case

Abu Ali, where are you? The "Arab man" - the description given by the Department of Special Investigation - is being sought by the DSI for suspected involvement in shooting to death a Saudi Arabian diplomat 19 years ago. Less than a year before the cases hit the 20-year statute of limitations on investigations, the name of Abu Ali came out of nowhere on Wednesday as a new suspect.

The DSI secured an arrest warrant for the man. Investigators believe he murdered Abdullah A Al-Besri, one of three Saudi diplomats, on Feb 1, 1990. The other two were Fahad AZ Albahli and Ahman A Al-Saif. Another diplomat from the same country, Saleh Abullah Al-Maliki, was gunned down on Jan 4, 1989. Another Saudi businessman, Mohammad al-Ruwaili, mysteriously went missing on Feb 14, 1990.

Thus far police investigators and DSI inspectors who took over the case from police five years ago are in the dark on who did it. Riyadh believes the case has been going on and on until it is about to expire because policemen were part of the murder. With new evidence pointing to Abu Ali, Justice Minister Pirapan Salirathavibhaga boasted about the progress of the investigation. The minister even hoped that coming up with the arrest warrant on Abu Ali was good enough to improve ties with Saudi Arabia. The oil-rich country downgraded bilateral relations from the ambassadorial level after their people were murdered and went missing. It also

  9. Chaturon suggests charter amendment for reconciliation

BANGKOK, 9 August 2009 (NNT) – Former Acting Thai Rak Thai Party Leader Chaturon Chaisaeng has suggested that the Constitution must be amended in order to restore reconciliation in the country although it is not the final solution to all problems.

Prior to opening a seminar on constitutional amendment and national reconciliation at Chulalongkorn University today, Chaturon stated that the Constitution must be amended since problems had originated from unfair legal provisions. He noted that the charter rewrite might not be the last answer, but it should be given the first priority, especially how it would be amended.

As for the bid of the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) to seek Royal Pardon for ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Chaturon deemed that Thai people had been divided into two groups by the issue. He explained that the contradicting viewpoints among the people had already developed into personal conflicts and hence suggested that all sectors discussed how reconciliation could be established; otherwise, the problem could lead to fierce rifts in the nation.

  10. Poll: Many support online lottery

The latest survey revealed that many respondents supported the legalisation of the online lottery scheme due to the expensive illegal lottery prices. The Dusit Poll conducted a survey on the plan to legalise the long-delayed two- and three-digit online lottery scheme.

63.80 per cent said online lottery could help tackle the high prices of underground lottery tickets, and it would allow them to pick any number they want. 24.58 per cent opposed the scheme because it would still encourage gambling. 11.62 per cent said they felt indifferent about the issue. 46.85 per cent said they did not know how the online lottery operated entirely. 30.63 per cent were fairly aware of how it was played while 18.2 per cent did not understand it completely. Only 4.50 per cent said they were well aware of the game.

Asked about the scheme's benefits, 26.32 per cent said it would generate more revenue for the government to help develop the country. 21.93 per cent said legalising it would facilitate the lottery buyers. 19.30 per cent said online lottery could bring down the lottery prices. 17.54 per cent believed the scheme, if approved, could help end the illegal lottery problem. 14.91 per cent believed online lottery buyers would not be cheated. 28.92 per cent wanted

Poll: Who Do You Support To Lead Thailand?

    The Expat Polls are open!

interesting and telling results thus far....

a more scientific and realistic ABAC poll conducted with real thai people was done not more than a few weeks ago and put Thaksin ahead of Abhisit in terms of popularity/leadership

    whoopsy daisy...

According to latest ABAC poll ( I know, take it with a grain of salt), Thaksin is losing both integrity and ethics with Abhisit the front-runner in both. Take it as you will.
Abhisit beats Thaksin in term of ethics, integrity: survey

More people believe in Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's ethics and integrity than in former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's, an opinion survey has found.

The survey by ABAC Poll of Assumption University found that 71.4 per cent of the respondents named Abhisit when asked whom they think of as the politicians with ethics while 61.6 per cent named Thaksin. Each respondent can name several choices of politicians in order.

When asked to name politicians with integrity, 68.2 per cent of the respondents named Abhisit while 40.5 per cent Thaksin.

  12. There are 30m people who see a man committed to improving their lives (actually he merely wants their vote) he was kicked out by a military coup. Prosecution and imprisonment would be very socially divisive.

Solution: he cannot return until he dies.

    :)

That worked out well all-around with the other Southeast Asian Despotic Dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

  13. I recall hearing that Thai Buddhists, the country's majority, do not become butchers, as Buddhism forbids the taking of life. The way they get around this (so as to ensure a constant supply of meat) is to have the Muslims be the butchers. Is this true?

    Not true.

There are Buddhist butchers of pigs, cows, chickens, etc. although some Buddhists would not butcher a cow for religious reasons. There are also Buddhist sellers of these end-products although some Buddhists would not sell beef.

There are Muslim butchers of cows, chickens, etc. although a Muslim would not butcher a pig for religious reasons nor sell their end product pork. I don't know of any Muslim sect that allows an exception to that.

    And what about fishermen?

There are Buddhist and Muslim fisherman and sellers of their end products.

    Speak for yourself.

You have no idea what the background of people are on this forum - don't presume to.

It also presumes that even for those people that are a visa guest that they have absolutely no ability to influence people that can vote.

In reality and on the contrary... amazingly, some visa guests actually do talk to Thai people. :)

The ABAC poll wasn't a straight up voting preference poll of candidates. :)

nevertheless there is a strong relationship between popularity and voting preference,

its certainally a more realistic indicator than the lopsided expat poll you seem so keen to want to promote

The relationship is not nearly as strong as the relationship between voting preference and voting preference. :D

That ex-pat poll has the same validity as this poll, and not "promoting" the other poll... just hoping to keep things in perspective, as dozens of posts in this thread reflect an over-exaggeration of this poll results and its meaning. :D

A lot like ABAC polls, which are far removed from "scientific and realistic" in their own right, btw. :D

  17. Ex-pm, now disgraced fugitive Thaksin is facing prison time back in Thailand. However, he has not faced trial for all the charges against him. If YOU could decide, how many years in prison, if any, do you think he deserves?

Thaksin Shinawatra deserves whatever sentence a legally constituted Thai court passes on him for crimes that he's found guilty of by that court. He certainly doesn't deserve any sentence that non-Thai citizens think he ought to serve. If you want to express opinions about political leaders perhaps you ought to:

A: Move to a country where you have a vote

B: Establish citizenship in Thailand so you can vote there

many of us pay taxes in thailand , have a thai wife and thai children. I think that gives us the right to an opinion on thai politics and the direction the country is taking.

Do you have the vote in Thailand?

  18. People support PM Abhisit

Even though Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva seemed to have conflict with the police chief, most people wanted him to continue working to settle the country’s pressing problems, according to a Abac Poll released on Saturday.

A recent opinion poll on conflict between political camp and police chief Pol Gen Phatcharawat Wongsuwan by Assumption University found that 73 per cent of the respondents gave moral support to Mr Abhisit to continue performing duties.

  19. Sondhi case back on the rails

The police investigation into the Sondhi Limthongkul shooting case has made considerable progress as investigators work actively again following the appointment of caretaker National Police Chief, the head investigator said yesterday.

Deputy National Police Chief General Thanee Somboonsap said that he was optimistic the case could be wrapped up before his mandatory retirement at the end of September.

Thanee said his team had made much progress in the case since last Monday and all members of the team were working hard in order to wrap it up.

The police general yesterday briefed Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on the case for more than one hour at Government House. He told reporters afterwards that he had reported the progress in the case to the prime minister.

The chief investigator had earlier publicly said his team had made little progress because some had been threatened by unnamed influential figures and others had leaked secret information.

Thanee declined to say whether the annual reshuffle list of 152 police generals, proposed by national police chief General Patcharawat Wongsuwan and approved by Police Commission would have any impact on the investigation.

Patcharawat is on leave of absence, and General Vichien Pojphosri has been appointed caretaker police chief.

Police will next week issue more arrest warrants for suspects in the assassination attempt on Sondhi Limthongkul, who is also a core leader of the People's Alliance for Democracy, Police Maj-General Sumeth Ruangsuwat said yesterday.

He said the investigators were gathering important incriminating evidence in order to seek court approval for arrest warrants for more suspects. He declined to elaborate on how many warrants there were and who they were for.

The court earlier issued arrest warrants for Sgt-Major Panya Srihaera from the Army's Special Warfare Command in Lop Buri, and Police Corporal Worawut Mungsanthi, assigned to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, for involvement in the failed assassination. Both are still at large.

Worawut wrote earlier to Thanee denying any involvement. His lawyer also filed suit against the investigative team for defamation, but the suit was rejected by the court.
