  1. Jingthing, what gave you the impression that "heartitallbefore" is Thai?
I will give it the benefit of the doubt. It is an issue that is good to raise whether it is true or not. Thais are of course a wonderful addition to this board about Thailand, but that doesn't mean they are special entities here or that their claimed nationality gives them any more or any less credibility when expressing OPINIONS.

DBrenn would likely dispute that as that certainly seems to be his projected attitude regarding his alleged, supposed Thai naturalized citizenship status.... which AFAIK and just like hearditallbefore, ferwert, koo82, emancipationthailand, etc. has never been validated.

  2. As expected, my thread with a positive light on our Prime Minister Thaksin was locked, so, as suggested, I will add it to this

    - SNIPPED -

So you took the contents of the post you made an OP with in a thread which was closed and re-posted it here in this thread?

You need to learn that that is not how things work.

  3. I mentioned this very new addition to the often times “dog-&-pony-show” known as Suan Plu in a post I made several weeks ago about getting extensions of stay for several friends.

When I was there the cameras and fingerprinting machines were evidently just rolled out, and in asking the officer she said they'd started testing it on July 20th.

There was a supervisor running madly around trying to sort out problems which arose at the different desks. I think it will smooth itself out, once the staff becomes more competent with the drop down menus in the form they print (which is another T.M.7; except the picture they take of you with the digital camera is pre-printed on upper right corner of the form). All the data is filled in by the officers from your passport and the T.M.7 you normally turn in. They use the fingerprint scanner to take both index finger prints.

I hafta go down to Suan Plu again next week so I'll see if it's gotten better or not.

    Thanks for that report. :)

I had searched on the subject but your earlier post didn't show up.

Sounds about as expected with such a change causing confusion and lack of preparation.

Also sounds like it might be awhile before they implement these changes at the provincial Immigration offices.

  4. Would'nt be great if we could have Thaksin as a member on Thai Visa

We already have a Thaksin as a member.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/member-list.html

If Thaksin Shinawatra wished to join, he'd have to chose another nick to go by.

Send suggestions on a postcard to:

    IDsuggest.jpg

*Disclaimer: The photo with the address shown is real, but it's for Government House and Thaksin Shinawatra can no longer be contacted there.

  5. Photos have always been required - so the only new thing is the fingerprint. As that seems to be the wave of the future; expect it will be used elsewhere in near future. My cheap Acer computer comes with it installed (although my index fingers seem to be too old to register).

Yes, I realize photo requirement is not new, but the aspect of having them shot at the Immigration office is.

So apparently, these 2 new requirements within Thailand are currently only in place Suan Plu.

  6. there were no irregularities in the project and they had carried out their duty without intention to corrupt.

good to hear you think they had no ill intent and there were no irregularities in the project

Where are on Earth did you get the notion that I personally thought that? :)

That's what their lawyers, of which I am not one, said in the OP's news article.

Are you capable of reading information that is contained in news articles and separating that from a member's unstated opinion?

  7. MP's aide jailed for assaulting reporter

LAMPANG : An aide of a Puea Thai Party MP has been sentenced to two months in jail for assaulting Bangkok Post and Post Today reporter Somsak Suksai after a village meeting in late June.

The Lampang Municipal Court last Thursday found Banjerd Dawi guilty of attacking the reporter and ordered him to serve his sentence without any of it being suspended, saying his action "harmed the body and mind".

Banjerd, who was unhappy with Mr Somsak's questions during the meeting, rushed at him after the meeting and punched and threw him to the ground.

Verdict on rubber-sapling graft case set for August 17

The Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Political Office Holders has scheduled its ruling for August 17 on a corruption case involving the Thaksin Shinawatra Cabinet's project to purchase 90 million rubber saplings worth 1.4 Billion Baht.

National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) attorney Jetsada Anujaree said the court had completed its interrogation of witnesses on June 16 and had ordered the plaintiff and the defendants to submit closing statements by yesterday before the court's verdict is handed down next Monday at 2pm.

The NACC, as the plaintiff, submitted its 45-page closing statement last Monday.

Jetsada said he hoped the case - about corruption at the policy-making level - would set a standard in anti-corruption investigation.

Laws and regulations had been amended in favour of certain interest groups to commit bidding collusion.

Today's corruption scene was different from the past, he said, when politicians accepting kickbacks from bidders could be investigated more easily by checking their connections.

A source from the defendants said their lawyers had also submitted their closing statements, insisting that there were no irregularities in the project and they had carried out their duty without intention to corrupt.

Defendants include the former deputy agriculture minister, Newin Chidchob, who initiated the project.

The corruption case was filed by the now-defunct Assets Scrutiny Committee against cabinet ministers and private companies involved in a project of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, under the Thaksin-led government, to acquire 90 million rubber saplings worth 1.4 Billion Baht.

former Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand Jutamas Siriwan

Film-fest heat turned up on Jutamas

Things are getting hot for Jutamas Siriwan, former Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, as local and overseas investigations point to her as being a key player in the Bangkok International Film Festival bribery scandal.

Piyawat Kingket, Chief of the Department of Special Investigation's special crimes unit, said yesterday that evidence has been found locally to implicate suspects, including Jutamas, who has consistently and vehemently denied any involvement in allegedly taking kickbacks while she was overseeing the film festival.

The case, which involved bribery and budgets that were within Jutamas's power to approve, has been forwarded to the National Anti-Corruption Commission, which is expected to make a decision soon on how to proceed, Piyawat said.

The trial of two Hollywood producers accused of trying to bribe their way into running the Bangkok International Film Festival is now underway at the US Federal District Court in Los Angeles, and, for the first time, Jutamas's name has cropped up in the court transcripts.

The local case, however, has not incorporated any accounts from American investigators who questioned producer Gerald Green and his wife Patricia, who stand accused in the US of violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act in connection with the film festival.

Getting the US investigators' interrogation records would be a lengthy bilateral process, Piyawat said.

The FBI, however, did seek cooperation from Thailand when launching its probe of the couple during the Surayud government.

The US indictment, filed in December 2007, claims that Green, the executive producer of the 2006 film, "Rescue Dawn", and his wife conspired to pay a Thai government official more than US$1.7 million (58 Million Baht) to land the contract to run the festival.

The indictment says organising the festival would be worth more than $10 million.

The Financial Times noted that the case against the Greens is the first time that the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act has been used against the entertainment industry, but it may not be the last.

The US court heard that the accomplices attempted to conceal their bribery by using different business entities, some with dummy addresses and phone numbers, and by making "commission" payments through the foreign bank accounts of intermediaries.

The defence in the US trial is expected to start making its argument in the next few days.

Extra spending by US filmmakers to keep officials overseas happy is reportedly not that unusual. A 2007 Times analysis of the budget of the film "Sahara", for instance, found that $237,386 was spent on "courtesy payments", "gratuities", and "local bribes".

  10. Hey All...

Does anyone know where in Thailand I can find a dealer selling Mynah Birds? I'd like to buy one, possibly two. I won't buy one unless I'm sure they've been captive bred, although I'm not sure how I can be sure of this. Any suggestions or advice?

I live in Phuket, but can travel north if anyone has any leads I can chase up. I've trawled Google with no luck.

I was informed that mynah birds are a protected bird and sales are illegal in Thailand.

This was confirmed when, prior to my being informed, I sought to purchase one. The bird dealer led me to a far corner of his store and pulled out a cardboard box that was stuffed underneath dusty shelves. Inside of the box, he pulled out the most sickly mynah bird I've ever seen and offered it for 2,000 baht. When I asked why so much for a bird that looked likely not to live out the week and he said because it is illegal to sell them. Subsequently, this was confirmed by a number of other people.

Yes, I know many people have them in their home cages and in the wild they do not appear to be rare in the least (around here, anyway), but they are still protected and their sale illegal.

  11. Over 5 million Thais sign names to oppose pardon petition for Thaksin

BANGKOK -- Over 5 million people have signed their names to oppose a plan by the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) to petition for a royal pardon for ousted former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Deputy Interior Minister Boonjong Wongtrairat said here Tuesday.

Boonjoing said the Interior Ministry would continue to take the people's signature for an indefinite period, the website by Bangkok Post reported.

However, he said the names would not be submitted along with the UDD petition letter since the ministry has only wanted to show how big the opposition is against the UDD movement.

In a related development, the opposition Puea Thai Party filed on Tuesday a complaint with the Crime Suppression Division police against Interior Minister Chavarat Charnveerakul, Boonjong, and Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Wichai Srikhwan, accusing them of lese majeste.

But, Boonjong said he is not worried by the complaint as he is performing the duty of the Thai people.

The UDD group plans to submit the pardon petition's letter for Thaksin to the Office of His Majesty's Principal Private Secretary on August 17.

The UDD group has claimed that they have already gathered at least 5 million names of the Thai people -- the supporters of Thaksin, which will be used to support the pardon petition.

  12. at this stage its unlikely he will be PM again, but he will definitely be back

So why do u post the Utube clip? What does it add to this thread?

To give you a taste of future events.

    He will be back :)

MrsT isn't my favourite older lady (Monica Bellucci perhaps...), but young MissT is quite lovely; and a very nice young lady apparently.

She looked absolutely fabulous.... when she was sitting at the front of the courtroom to hear her 3 year prison sentence....

From Red sniper to Miss Tiffany contestant? :)

Obviously photo shopped, at least if you are going to post fake pictures admit they are fake

I'm not sure which photo you are addressing, but mine was directly from the Red sniper's very own website....

as for Koo82's photo, she said before some of the photos she posts are her own personally taken photos so perhaps she was there at the Red sniper's Miss Tiffany's tryout.

Somchai: Seeking Royal Pardon for Thaksin not lead to coup d´état

BANGKOK, 11 August 2009 (NNT) – A leading member of Puea Thai Party, Somchai Wongsawat, said the move of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) to seek a Royal Pardon for ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra would not lead to a coup d'état.

During a making merit event to mark the 77th birthday anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen at the Lumpini Park this morning with other members of the Puea Thai Party, former Prime Minister Somchai stated that he had a conversation with Thaksin and said generally he was still happy, but missing home.

He also mentioned the campaign by other groups to oppose the lodging of amnesty petition for the ousted Prime Minister as just the differences of opinions and should not be used as a pretext to create social conflicts and consequently staging a coup d'etat.

  15. Another Warrant out for 3rd Suspect in Sondhi Case

The investigating officers in the case of the attempted assassination of PAD leader, Sondhi Limthongkul, acquired another arrest warrant for the third suspect.

The investigation team in the Sondhi case revealed that they acquired an arrest warrant from the Criminal Court for Sergeant Somchai Bunnag who serves in the third Special Force Regiment at Erawan base in Lop Buri province.

Five serious charges has been filed against him and if he is found guilty of these charges he will likely be given at least a 20 year sentence.

The charges include conspiring to commit a premeditated murder, unauthorized possession of firearms and explosives in a residential area without good reason, discharging a firearm in public places, and criminal association.

Sergeant Somchai, the latest suspect to be implicated in the attempt on Sondhi's life, serves in the same unit as Sergeant Major Panya Srihera, another suspect in this case.

The police said phone call logs revealed that Somchai was involved in the attempted assassination. They also discovered that Sergeant Somchai has been in hiding since the arrest warrant for Sergeant Major Panya was issued.

This morning the deputy national police chief, General Thani Sombunsap will have a meeting with the investigation team to discuss the handling of this case.

The first suspect implicated in this case was Police Corporal Worawut Mungsanthi. Both the first and second suspects have yet to turn themselves in to police.

Recently Police Corporal Worawut sent a letter asking for justice to Police General Thani while the lawyer for the second suspect, Sergeant Major Panya submitted a lawsuit against Police General Thani and his team for wrongfully issuing a warrant and misconduct in framing him for criminal offense. However, the court dismissed his request.

Panya's lawyer, Bunyat Jityen, has sought an appeal by the Supreme Court to overturn the dismissal by the Criminal Court.

Bunyat disclosed that his client was at a Buddhist ceremony in Trat province at the time when the attempted assassination took place as Panya co-hosted the ceremony. Banyat has enclosed two photographs as evidence to confirm that Panya was indeed in Trat when the assassination attempt took place with his appeal submission. The court will rule in this matter within three days.

  16. PT files complaint against Chavarat

The opposition Puea Thai Party on Tuesday filed a complaint with Crime Suppression Division police against Interior Minister Chavarat Charnveerakul, his Deputy Boonjong Wong Trairat and Interior Permanent Secretary Wichai Srikhwan, accusing them of lese majeste.

The complaint, filed by Party Spokesman Prompong Nopparit and his lawyer, alleged the three had violated the Criminal Code by ordering local administration officials throughout the country to set up tables to force people to sign their names in opposition to the petition for a Royal Pardon for former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Pongthep Thepkanchana, Thaksin's Personal Spokesman, said earlier that the petition prepared by the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship was not out of the ordinary
