According to the UK National Statistic Office the average grocery bill for a family of four is 84 pounds per week. But probably depends on how much smoked salmon and caviar you buy.

Driving through Laem Chabang the other day and saw a truck coming out of the port exit with 5 front cuts. 1 was a c class Mercedes. So someone is still able to import.

I have just watched a video named "Singapore Airlines in a class of their own". It should be compulsory viewing for all Thai Airways staff from the CEO down.

This is my take on the gun control issue.
The original plan was for Mitch to sit on the House background gun check until just before the election, both his and Trump's. Then they pass the bill in the Senate and declare that they really want to make Americans safe. Unfortunately El Paso has scuppered plan A.
Plan B. Trump calls the NRA. Look he says, at present there is no way I will get re-elected with only a 38% approval rating. So your 30 million dollars will be wasted and you will have to deal with a democratic president who will really screw you. Why don't we have a pretend fight about gun control. I will play the aggressor to your strongman. We will keep the pretense up until just before the election then with great fanfare we jointly announce that anyone who has spent time in a mental institution we not be permitted to own a handgun. We pretend this is the first of many gun control changes. I get re-elected and it's back to the status quo.

Hmmm. Are you sure there is no longer an international-to-international transfer line in Kuala Lumpur. I know for a fact that there used to be, and I used it. I already had a boarding pass from online check in. Using it to turn around and come straight back to where you came from might be blocked when they check your boarding pass at security, I suppose.
My trip to KL was in the days before online boarding cards and it was a security issue. Penang trips were with that stupid TG night flight that arrives at 2300 and of course the departure lounge is closed as no night departures. Maybe it would work with the Airasia day flight. The unsettling part of this, was the third degree questions from Malaysian immigration why I had only spent 5 hours in Penang. This is from 9 months ago.

A new standard type 2 storey house has started construction next door. I noticed they are using ALC panels. Look like 2mt x 1mt and 2mt x 1/2 mt. Started yesterday morning and by nightfall all ground floor walls completed around 10 hours. Started first floor wall construction this morning.

Will I have trouble if I fly from Thailand to Malaysia, don't go through Malaysian immigration and board a flight back to Thailand 2 hours later? I have a one year non-b visa (unlimited entries?).
Depends where in Malaysia. KL and Penang it is legally impossible to get from arrivals to departures without going through immigration. In KL I tried this plan but I still had to go through immigration.

I would do a lot of talking with your engine fitter as to what exactly you will get for your money. 30000 baht seems way too cheap to me. A Tribute engine in Japan run between 28000 and 35000 baht plus shipping plus duty.. They will give a cylinder compression readout and guarantee the bare engine for 3 months. If any auxiliaries are fitted they will have no warranty. I had a friend who imported a used engine and it had no fuel injection no manifolding no clutch no auxiliaries .
To give an example a friend in Singapore has a complete Tribute engine ready to drop in 60,000 kilos but it is 109,000 baht FOB Singapore.

Lufthansa has listed 4 A340-600 frames, C/N 482, 523, 537 and 569, for sale, with delivery available after September 2016. Still for sale
These 4 additional frames are in addition to the 4 already grounded/stored A340-600 frames (763, 790, 794, 812) which have been available since earlier this year.Air Canada retired it's fleet of A340-500's at a young age in favour of the B772lr. They wet leased the aircraft to TAM. TAM used them for a little while and then they bought 777's. Last I heard these plane, still young, are sitting at the far end of a airport in South America waiting for the next operator that will never come.

I remember many years ago being tutered in the fine art of "secondhand car selling" by an old hand at it. "Sonny"...he said to me..."The cheaper the price...the more questions they ask".
By gum, how right he was...some people expect a "Roller"...for pittance?
If you look on Taladrod you will see that a main selling point, usually in capital letters is "NO LPG FITTED". I personally would never buy a car that had gas fitted.

Just listened to two financial "experts" on Bloomberg today and they both agreed on parity sterling to US dollar by year end. Although they did not say where they thought dollar would be regarding Euro.
-
My friend was quoted the same price in Pattaya as in the OP. That was to go from VE to NON O to retirement extension. He did it in Bangkok for 14000 baht with no finance shown.

I noticed today that one of the more well known visa services that runs to Vientiane and Savannakhet has updated their website.
They qualified their statement with "It appears that" but noted that Vientiane now issues a single Tourist Visa per person per year. and Savannakhet will only issue a Tourist Visa if you have stayed less than 90 days in the past 6 months. This is a local rule.
Also stated that a new visa application venue coming soon.

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs has, for nine months, been investigating charges that former lobbyist Jack Abramoff and public relations executive Michael Scanlon manipulated Indian tribes and walked away with millions of dollars from "less than honorable" dealings. Senator McCain is only one of many shaken by the scandal. As Senator Byron L. Dorgan responded to the evidence building in this case, he called the activities "a cesspool of greed, a disgusting pattern, certainly, of moral corruption, possibly of criminal corruption...a pathetic, disgusting example of greed run amok." Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell, who presided over the oversight hearings and is currently the only Native American U.S. Senator, detailed the evidence before the committee:
It appears, from their own words, Mr. Abramoff and Mr. Scanlon held their tribal clients in absolute contempt — clients, mind you, that paid them millions of dollars. E-mails obtained by the committee show that they regularly referred to their clients using contemptuous, even racist language.

If you care to look at True Visions you will see three programs about airports. Heathrow, Madrid and a Colombian (i think) airport. Every piece of luggage before being put on the carousel is x rayed. London evens subjects all arriving luggage to a sniffer dog as well. How do you think they catch the ciggie smugglers? Guess work?

Had a speed related vibration that was a bad front wheel bearing.
Regarding sprocket change it depends on your bike usage. Long distance cruising or short trips round town. I had a 30 kilo daily commute so went from 34 to a 24 tooth. Round town requires constant gear changing.

An ex girlfriend of my son worked in immigration. Her job was to manually file all TM6 cards and match arrival and departure halves. It struck me that that system would easily trace most over stayers. She claimed that once the halves were matched they were boxed by year and stored somewhere.

Wondering if anyone on TV has tried the 250 grams packet of Californium green grapes at 900 baht. Or perhaps the 200 gram packet of black cherries at 790 baht. If you have were they worth the extra.
