Recently I heard that the oil people are going to be packing up shop in Songkla and moving up to NST around Nov. of 2008. Certainly things here in Nakhon will change, and drastically, if there is any truth to this tale.

Personally, I imagine NST will feel some serious growing pains if a bunch of rich, white pilots, rig workers, etc. come breezing through town. The influx of money and westerners will probably mean more restaurants, bars and English speakers to cater to them (perhaps some Budweiser, finally?!? ). We'll also see some of the less savory things that typically come along with the farang-o. Higher prices, more tourists, touts and traffic being just a few.

What is the chance that this is true? How do you see Nakhon changing if it is?

I fail to see the comparison between either ethernet or optical drive with the wheels and engine of a car! Central to the functioning of a car are its ability to generate power and tranfer that power to the ground. Wouldn't those be more analogous to the processing and storing of data, the true purpose of a computer?

I agree with nikster, the amount of attention to detail and design that goes into Mac hardware far surpasses any PC I've ever seen. And the MBA is no exception, in fact, it's probably the most attractive machine they've ever built!

Doesn't any one else find it odd, that in a world so obsessed with beauty, fashion and keeping up with the Jones', there are not more fashionable computers? I mean, there are toasters that look better than any PC notebook on the market today. And the attempts that have been made to produce something stylish, Acer's Ferrari series for example, are still the same boring rectangles with a new paint job. Or, in the case of the Ferrari 4000, they tack on the term "carbon-fiber" and for what?? To improve performance or durability or to sucker some moron into buying one?

Ever since the internet really exploded and computers were found in more and more homes, I wondered: Why are they so dam_n ugly???

Normally, if we have no significant holidays, I don't have a problem budgeting so that I can enjoy certain throughout the month. If we do have a longer break, I blow tons of dough and have to live on the cheap until the next payday.

This kind of stuff happens in Australia as well...and I think it's a reflection on the kids (?) that are doing it and their upbringing, or lack thereof, rather than the country they live in. I know people have got killed and seriously injured in Australia from this kind of stupidity.

Indeed, happens from time to time in the states as well. Many overpasses have chain link fence around them to prevent this sort of thing.

I wonder if it's like the SeaTran ferry to Samui where you may buy a round trip ticket and reserve an exact return time. I learned about this the hard way, of course. We waited at the Samui pier for about 5 hours one sunday waiting for a spot on the boat.

I've seen dual-voltage power supplies for xbox online so we're hoping for one here. Failing that, a standard 220v power supply would do the trick.

My friend brought his original xbox over form Canada and plugged it into a Thai outlet not knowing it would kill the poor thing. We haven't found any one who sells power supplies here in Nakhon Sri Thammarat and ordering one online seems very expensive when international shipping is included.

So, my question is: Does any one know a reliable source to order an origianl xbox (not 360) power supply from? It would be far more convenient for him to have it shipped here but if that isn't an option picking up in person in Samui, Phuket or Had Yai is an option.
