well i've been enjoying it here on samui for many years now and look forward to it more this year than previous years.
my observation is that some people on this thread enjoy telling children that santa claus is not real while others enjoy watching youngsters and those still young at heart enjoy the event for what it is.
-
best day of the year on samui imho. don't let the party poopers spoil the event for you, some people just can't stand to see anyone have fun and enjoy themselves. it's a part of the island and a part of thailand and will be as much fun as you make it. great opportunity to break down the cultural barriers when you see the small children playing with hoses/pails and talc, smile when they splash you and splash them back, save the bucket dumping for the drunk adults and make some new friends along the way. sanook mak!

wow, very interesting, entertaining and informative thread. thanks for taking the time to add all this.

very sad news, RIP big guy.

i've looked all over samui for wii remotes and accessories and come up empty handed. bangkok has plenty but i never go there so having a bunch of wii parts hand delivered from the states in a few weeks. tesco has a wii unit for sale at 25k baht lol. no additional parts or games though.

has anyone seen hemp seed oil for sale in thailand? would prefer in samui for logistical reasons but would love to get my hands on a few bottles of real refrigerated hemp seed oil.

good thread, love mexican food. i make my own refritos with black beans. small package of bacon in my cast iron skillet along with a few diced jalapenos and a pinch of this and that, probably a bit of garlic in there also. cook it down to get the oil out of the pork and take off the heat momentarily so that you can slice the bacon into very small bits then pour the overnight soaked black bean without water into the bacon/jalapeno/spice and cover with beer chang. mash it up good thanks to the cast iron while it cooks down into a nice paste. dam_n. gotta go to tesco now.

i've been using TOT at my home for more than a year with no problems whatsoever. one outage in that entire time, happened last weekend and lasted about 6 hours. pretty good actually, all things considered.

If he was driving ' very very fast ' i am happy he hit a truck and not some poor person on a motorbike. I hope they clean the mess of his car up fast and leave to glass on the road so any motorbikes dont get flat tyres becuase of it. Also the most important thing is , i hope all the burmese workers who where on the truck are ok and fully recover. It would be a good gesture if the family / hotel owned by this guy would pay some money for the burmese workers hospital bills.
Why do we assume that the farang in the "fast car" (which actually was a 40+ collectors' car of the sort that people usually drive slowly so that everyone else can see whose inside it) was at fault instead of the driver of the truck? Is it just because the driver of the truck lived to tell his story and the farang did not? Or perhaps because the farang committed the sin of being rich and having a conspicuously nice car?
the hotel owner killed in the accident was thai, not farang. according to the article which was written in thai he was driving too fast for the road and conditions and was not able to make the turn at which point he struck the construction truck.

from the OP: reading the local paper online and has found photos ""
which local paper????
it was the thai rath website, with local samui coverage
-
one of my staff is reading the local paper online and has found photos and a story indicating that at about 7 30am today, the owner of the bayview hotels/ laguna etc was perhaps driving a bit too fast between chaweng and lamai and could not make the turn at the huge rock formation between Coral Cove and the Cliff. Collision with a truck full of construction workers , sent a bunch of them to the hospital including one pregnant woman. Report says he was driving a "very fast car" ford mustang.

i trained chop sockey every saturday morning on channel 8 while i was growing up, this could be my big break!

thanks for the replies. i will check nathon as ideally i would prefer to have the sliding expandable versions as each entry to be blocked is a different size and i'd like them to be interchangeable.
-
specifically the expandable versions meant to fill the space between open doors/rooms etc and prevent kids from leaving the area. anyone seen these around anywhere on the island?

Looking from below it is well on the way to completion - i would say this is a project that will be finished quite soon
its 90 % complete, all my old clients i sold units there have already transfered
They have plans for a beach bar/restaurant in Bang Po alsonot a plan, a contract agreement to build !, last i heard the land was secured in April/May . Should be located 100 M either way of the 7/11 next to the road that leads to the development, can anyone living in Bang Por confirm that this is being built , or a structure that looks like a beach club?
Many Thanks
Boater
and those same buyers have been busy contacting every agent on the island trying to resell before the developer has even finished the project or finished selling his own stock.

i've been past subway 1000 times without stopping in because it just doesn't appeal to me, however if someone opens a taco bell on samui i will run over each and every one of you to be first in line.

for a while i was receiving probably 3-4 random emails each month from UK and other buyers at Bophut Residence who had been directed to me from fareps.
they stopped probably 6 months ago and i've had no further contact with fareps directly or from their referrals.

just a few days ago workers cut the leaves off of probably 100+ trees on the beach next to my house. not sure if it was directly related to this same issue as quite a few of the trees have new shoots coming straight up out of the top but it was quite a haircut anyway.

he did have a restaurant up until a couple of years ago, my guess is the closing was more of a locational thing than a food thing as each of the several times i ate there his food and the atmosphere were good. i've also been to several of nigel's catered dinners and the man knows how to cook. hel_l one look at the guy and you can tell he loves his food

i use dtac with my iphone on samui for phone service and data. oddly enough, due to my location on the far northwestern side of the island most of my phone calls bounce off a phangan tower before coming back to my neighbors phone. anyway, yes, 12call works with iphone considering you have done the "groundwork" necessary to free it up from wherever it came.

just announce that you are looking to spend 100 million+ on a villa in phuket. you'll have them crawling out of the woodwork.

Songkran On Samui...
in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao

these things do happen i suppose, no matter where you live. some people have to work nearby the festa dei serpari (procession of the snake catchers), the Poryong Mud Festival in Korea, and imagine working nearby or en route the La Tomatina festival in Spain.
i say bring on the water (no ice cubes/bodily fluids/etc please)
