  1. We all know, that a fair amount of those money, are going to end up in

the wrong pockets. Which most to us is not acceptable, simply due to the

big amounts we are talking about.

it is none of our (expats) business to judge what is acceptable/charming or not

in our "host" country. moreover, no bitching will change the situation.

comments like this make me laugh especially when the same poster and others who quote the same right on BS would probably be shouting at the top of his voice to defend the right of immigrants in their own country of origin to have their say.......hypocrisy at its finest

  2. to keep cool in the hot weather place a chair with the back at right angles to the fan

soak a couple of towels in water and wring them out just enough to stop them dripping water onto the floor

place the towels folded on the back of the chair

you will get a nice cool moist breeze from the fan

resoak towels every couple of hours

cheaper than a/c and almost as effective

  3. Handwashing is one of the most important ways of controlling the spread of infections, especially those that cause diarrhoea and vomiting, and respiratory disease

I swim in the pool at my condo which is directly adjacent to the kitchen of the restaurant on one side and staff toilets on the other..I can see directly into the hand washing area that is provided for post toilet use and I swear that only 1 in 10 of the kitchen and waitress staff bother to wash their hands..the condo is 3/4 star rated so u would think they would know better...needless to say I dont eat at the restaurant..saying that though I doubt any of the street food vendors ever bother

  4. these people are vermin beating on a guy old enough to be their dad/grandad regardless of what went before.....had i been there watching this I would have picked up something large and heavy and set about them regardless of the consequences....take away the fake smiles and thailand is a very dangerous place
  5. Indeed you do.

Hence why you will be required to do a real blood test after failing the preliminary pee test.

You will not be convicted, fined or whatever else on a failed pee test...

Monty sorry your information is a few years out of date.

Failing a pee test (or refusing to take one) the first time gets you 30 days in prison, 2 time is 60 day and so on. I often visit prisoners in BKK and they are now saying failing the first time can get you up to 1 year inside. The person that told me found out the hard way.

You have the right to be pee tested by a doctor but that will simply anger the BiB's. The only testing kits I have seen them use is a small rectangular shaped bit of white plastic. Your pee goes in one half then you wait to see how many blue lines come up 1,2 or 3. The kit can tell if you have not used urine so do think spitting water in it will get you out of trouble. I have never heard of them testing for cocaine its only a single test kit for amphetamine which covers the main drugs being Yabba, ICE and MDMA (Ecstasy).

You have to commit an offense to give them the right to test you they don't need to think you are using or holding. Problem is they could say you didn't indicate when turning or spat on the floor they can and do make anything up to cover their a$$.

I would suggest to anyone that is asked/forced to take a test to make sure you demand they open the plastic wrapper on the kit in front of you.

Failing a drug test does not automatically mean you have chosen to consume drugs you could of been spiked or been in a room of people smoking and sucked up some second hand traces but you are processed the same way. I heard it was taken up at the European Court of Rights but TiT it wont change.

so does the kit the police use not test for weed?

  6. coming along Wualai Rd u pass the CM cultural centre on your left and theres a shop about 200 mtrs further on the opposite side of the road

it sells T shirts but he usually has a couple of bikes outside for sale....theres a shoe shop next door to it

I know they have a sign up offering respray of bike parts..worth a look

  7. I went to Kitcha and was told by one of the lady dentists that I needed two fillings...was sceptical as I didnt like the look of the place so went to Empress dental clinic on Canal rd and saw a Dr Jarunee who is much admired on this forum....she examined me and said all I needed was a clean and polish

Dr Jarunee was trained in Germany and the rest of the staff that work there have outstanding CVs...maybe worth going and having a check up and consultation before you decide who to engage

  8. Both teachers said they had their pupils use tablets three times per week on average and one to two hours at a time.

what a waste of money these tablets are...the money would have been better spent on text books and teacher training and still enough left over for a room full of PCs which each class could have used each day for a couple of hours.....guarantee these cheap tablets will be broken and kept in the cupboard within a year.still some hiso politicians will be riding around in a new MERC with the kick back money so its not all bad

  9. Delivery of the first big batch of new 500s in Chiang Mai will be happening within the next few days (according to the manager in a phone call this morning). I'd imagine that the service department will open around the same time. After all, next month is now only 2 days away. Still, as Mania suggested it'd be a good idea to check before coming down from Chiang Rai.

saw a red one today sitting outside Pops m/c rental shop at Thapae gate if u want to hire for the day
