  1. Just moved from Aus to live with the mia, been visting over the last 10 years and worked hard together to build our new home about 50k south of Lampang in SoemNgam

its not your home its hers.......u dont own the land....lets hope the family isnt planning to move in to their new farang built house conveniently situated in their home village while u get given your marching orders.........one things for sure u better be a good boy now u have commited yourself and your cash

  2. I am sure I saw a similar thread but cant find it

I have a Honda CBR250 and would like some suggestions for day rides of between 100-200km

I like to avoid the four lane carraigeways and take the winding back roads which are fun on a light bike

I am getting a little bored of the Sameong Loop and down the road beside the Ping River

a lot of the local bikers I know have large machines which leave my 250 behind so would be interested in going out with others riding similar bikes

  3. most small games shops will take them off your hands as there is always someone that wants a new games system...I go to a games shop nr the railway station in CM and the people who work there all have an original xbox modded with an executer chip..they have around 50 games available for 50 baht each

for anyone who may be interested The games shop near the train station is called PAE GAMES. They open around midday every day and can be contacted on 083-5736501 or 086-1792323

  4. there are many posts with conflicting answers so I would like some answers specific to me.......I am over 50 and live in CM

I am at present here on a non immigrant O visa that expires on 17th November

I plan to do the Mae Sai visa run on the 16th thus giving me another 90 days thru to the 14th February 2013

how do I go about getting a retirement visa after that date

also do I have to have the 800,000 in the thai bank for 3 months before applying for the visa?

what happens if I want to leave the country for a holiday during the term of the visa?

  5. u could always go into the shop and try matching racks and child seats to your bike and then get them modified to suit your bike....theres a great metalwork shop off Chang Klan rd that will do this for u....he will even make something from scratch if u so wish but would probably be a little more expensive than off the shelf stuff

go down the night market rd thru the traffic lights and proceed about 1 km to the next set of traffic lights....take a right and straight thru the next set of lights and the shop is on the right just before the hump back bridge.the guy works at the rear of the shop

  6. go with a couple of English blokes Jeff and Tony on Ratchamanka rd which is the opposite side of the moat at the top of Loi Kroh Rd....a lot of the bikes arent that new but they are honest and reliable and if u do have a prang u wont be paying to fix a 50,000 baht machine....they play fair and theres no worries about being ripped off..also recommended in Lonely Planet Guide...you can also purchase insurance from them to cover any damages

  7. I am over 50 and can stay in Thailand on my Non immigrant O visa until february

I dont want the hassle and cost of going back to the UK to renew it

I dont have the cash to get a retirement visa

I was thinking of going to Vientaine in Feb and then August to get 2 x tourist visas back to back with a month extension at 1900 baht

until I saw this Ed Visa advertised

LEARN ONE Year THAI LANGUAGE and culture (One year Ed. Visa)

At EasystudyThai language School at Pantip Plaza Mall 3 floor.ChangKlaan road

    • Learn intensive Thai (listening, speaking , reading,writing )

    • 180 hours Thai language (get 1 year Ed.Visa)

    • Our teachers are highly experienced teaching Thai as a foreign language.

    • This course will cover many different aspects of Thai culture related to everydaylife in cluding: buddhism, history, art, music, etc.

    • Comfortable & convenient school location (1 min from Night Baazaar)

    • Daytime or Evening class

    • Small group class and reasonable rates

    • The course fees is 19,950 Bhat for 180 hours of instruction including textbook, hand-outs, refreshments and One Year Ed.Visa.

Its the one year Ed Visa that interests me although 180 hours tuition over one year workd out less than 4 hours a week which would be easy and fun to do

are there any pitfalls to this?

can I leave the country for a holiday and re enter on the same visa?

the price is way cheaper than a trip/stay/visa to UK and only marginally more expensive than a couple of trips for tourist visas to Vientainne

can anyone give me some advice please......thanks

  8. Here’s what to do.

Firstly visit your local Immigration department, give them as many details about this guy as possible and tell them that you believe he is running a business illegally, which I have no doubts he is, and ask them if they could check up on this guy regarding visas and work permits.

Next, Thailand has very strict defamation laws, so do not attempt to publish any bad publicity about this guy in Thailand, but when you leave, publish your case against this guy online, including Craigslist, watchdog sites and even create a facebook page about him.

In the meantime, send him an email using a different email address so he doesn’t know it`s you until he opens it and won’t be blocked, explaining your intentions if he does not cough up with the amount of money you lost from the purchase of that motorbike within the next 14 days.

My guess is that this a/hole would not want his activities here brought to light and that he will pay up.

far better idea is to pick up several smelly dog shits and add water until u get a nice creamy smooth liquid.....leave to stand for a few days until totally rancid then pour the concotion down the heater/air conditioning vent in front of the windscreen of his car wiping up any overspilll so he doesnt suspect.......the car will stink of dogshit when he turns on the air con and he will never be able to get rid of the smell even if the system is dismantled and cleaned thus making the car undriveable and unsellable

  9. if I recall correctly this bike was a Yamaha Mio with an asking price of 16000 baht so u are complaining about losing 4000 baht to someone who was just trying to shift a bike on..u must have tested it and been happy to hand over the money so u have little to complain about..........the thing here is the thai mechanic who told u that the problem would cost 10,000 baht to fix, he was taking u for a ride for sure as the problem was probably a dodgy coil of dirty carb.......next time buy a new bike ride it for two years and then ask 6000 baht less than u paid for it which is what happens in Thailand (the land of virtually no depreciation)

  10. I would say, no problem! thumbsup.gif Looks only funny, if his rear wheel is less imposing than his now new front wheel. tongue.png

LOL...the guy is only young and has probably watched Easy Rider a few too many times which I suppose accounts for the red flames on the tank.I am sure the rear tyre will probably be blacked with that slippery stuff to match it up which nearly had me off my nouvo one day after the bike had been to the wash station. The wash guy had been squirting the stuff they polish up the plastics with and gave the tyres a liberal sprinkling follwed by a quick lick of the greasy rag on the sidewalls,i pulled off and at the first corner it was like riding on ice. I went back to the shop and gave them a bollocking for nearly killing me and they washed the tyres again. now when I go in I always specifically ask them not to grease up the tyres

  11. I have a Honda CBR250 thats only done 3000km and the other day I noticed the back tyre had a large slash in the tread area...I can only assume that I have run over a piece of metal at some point and now the tyre is buggered....anyway have ordered some new Pirelli Sport Demons tyres for it and will junk the rear but the front looks almost new

the security guard in my condo who is a very nice guy has a Honda Phantom and looking at his front tyre today its bald

so I am planning on donating the front tyre to him but am worried the size being slightly different whether it will affect the handling of his bike too much

    The Phantom has a 90/90 x 17 front tyre

    The Honda CBR250 has a 110/70 x 17 front tyre

any advice on whether it would be suitable....thanks

  12. none of the above sell fire blankets which i find puzzling since the only source of fire in most thai homes would be a gas stove with a hot wok and oil on it

i bought a small 180 baht car type foam fire extinguisher at Big C today.....anyone know if that would be suitable to put out a burning wok?

will also try to chase up a fire blanket online

  13. tilac was cooking on the balcony of our condo and left the wok with a little oil on the gas cooker...needless to say it caught alight and I had to extinguish the fire with a wrung out wet towel..as there is no water on the balcony to wet the towel I feel we need a close at hand way of putting out a fire should it happen again so am looking to buy a fire retardent blanket to smother any future pan fire

as an aside tilac was amazed that i knew how to deal with this so i showed her the videos below where the fire fighter pours water on the burning cooking pot.....maybe worth showing yout tilac/wife how to cope with just such an incident in case it ever happens and she doesnt know what to do

  14. saw a Yamaha Mio auto with a sidecar and 3 people in the other day...the bike slowed to a crawl to negotiate a speed bump but couldnt get over it and the bike spun around 90 degrees....one of the passengers had to get out and assist the bike over the hump..manual gears are the ticket when pulling a sidecar

That's the sort of mentality your dealing with. Buy a bl00dy automatic and expect it to do the job a manual can bearly do!

actually it was a farang driving it LOL

  15. sure there was a topic on here concerning interesting day rides from CM....i have a CBR250 and am afraid Chiang Rai and back in a day is too far for me but would like to hook up with similar bikes for 100 -200km day rides down scenic roads with a stop for lunch which is what the 250 does best

can anybody find that topic about day rides from CM for me.........thanks

  16. I think that you may be in a tiny minority wanting to see sights such as this. I would be grateful if you would remove the image, (or perhaps a passing Mod might do so), in order that other people coming into this thread mistakenly will not be subjected to that appalling image.

    Gross!

oh come on we live in an age where everybody sees images much more shocking than this....

or are we all supposed to show faux outrage at something that is in fact part of the culture in Thailand?

  17. I like my CBR250 very much, its quick enough for me and handles very nicely too..my only complaint is the handlebar position which for me is too low and after an hour or so on the bike my wrists are killing me

I would like to know if any company are doing a replacement top yolk with proper handlebar brackets on it that would enable standard bars to be fitted?

I think the screen would have to cut and modified slightly to accomodate this along with a longer clutch cable and brake hose

but really it would be an easy fix if a yolk was available

anybody tried to do this or know how it can be done?

  18. what a topic,

thais just out the stone age, thais dont do this before they serve my food, thai this and thai that,

if you really are that botherd stay at home it just might be safer

but dont forget can you remember the big mac employee who wanked into a burger, think it was in scunthorpe,

and you say thais are bad...

its the same all over the world, just some of you like to come on here and make such a fukcing big thing out of nothing, just to have a go at the thais,

    jake

oh come on Jake I think something is seriously amiss with basic health and safety training of employees in the upmarket condo I live in when none of the kitchen staff are seen to be washing their mitts after using the toilet

how much effort does it take for the manager to put a couple of signs up in the toilet and download some basic kitchen hygeine information to be photocopied and given to the staff?

if u read my first post u would see that to be fair i said that other races and cultures have issues with basic hygeine but I put that down to laziness because basic hygeine is usually taught in schools and the home in the West....so I am still waiting for an answer on whether it is down to laziness, ignorance or dont care attitude......perhaps u can enlighten us?
