You could easily get a single entry non-o visa based upon marriage that will allow a 90 day entry.
The 60 day entry a tourist visa allows can be extended at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.
You can also apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife.
Thank you, very helpful.
On applying for the non-o visa based on marriage would I have to show proof of funds, i.e the 400,000 Baht lodged in my Thai bank account? Please also advise what documentation I would have to present to the embassy on application?
Again what documents are needed if applying for a 60 day extension to visit my wife, which I think I would have to do in Thailand near the end of my 2 month tourist visa?

Good day,
Having been married for several years we, my Thai wife, have decided to settle in Thailand. My wife is already back there, I intend to move later next year after retiring. In the meantime I would like to please ask for some advice on the Tourist Visa. I can get a 2 month visa from my home country, I don't want to go the permit based on marriage route just yet. My question is, if I decide that I would prefer to stay longer than 2 months, what are my options? I hear that I can extend the visa for one month for a fee. I also hear that it may be possible to get an extension based on wanting to visit my wife. Are these options(?) both correct, if not can somebody please advise? Thanking you in anticipation.

Every application form I've seen states that admittance is at the discretion of the immigration officer.

Good day,
I am looking to be a first time car buyer in Thailand, not necessarily new.
I believe there are 2 classes of insurance, one for new vehicles and another for used vehicles, is this correct? If so how does it work?
Also, if the vehicle has comprehensive insurance, can anybody drive it or do the drivers have to be named, i.e Prime driver and A.N.Other?
We will be living in Chaiyaphum but spending a lot of time in Bangkok so can anyone please recommend a reliable insurance company.
Thanks in advance for any information.

I can never understand how Emirates justify their fares. Return from Bangkok to Durban +57k Baht = approx ZAR22K. Return from Durban to Bangkok approx ZAR 9K = approx 24K Baht; why the big difference?

Why bring it in as one sum?
It is probably a lot safer where it is and just draw down what you need.

Hello,
I have a company saving fund in the U.S. of approx $80K, I do not want to transfer it to my country of residence, South Afica, because of Currency regulatons, i.e once it is in it is not so easy to bring out. Although not yet resident in Thailand, I have a Thai wife, I do have a bank account there. I would like some advice as to whether it is advisable to bring that amount into the country at one time. Any advice will be apreciated, thank you.

Hi All
I have a Thai wife, not under Thai law, and will likely move to Thailand later this year.
I was wondering if any of you long(er) term residents have come across/read a book called Thailand fever.
I bought and read it with my wife, sounds reasonable to me but wife says "some good, some BS!
If anybody has read it I would be interested in how they compare it with actual life in the LOS
Many thanks

Hi All,
New to this so please bear with me.
I have read often about the various forms of visas and how to get them but there seem to be many different answers. Maybe somebody can please help in my situation.
I am a Englishman resident in South Africa and married to a Thai lady, not under Thai law. We are presently based in Bahrain and wish to go to Thailand end of May (end of contract) We intend to get married in Thailand and I will then retire. I have visited Thailand before and like the place and "Probably" wish to settle there. I say probably as my wife lives outside of Chiayaphum, very quiet. So I think we should go there for a while, she has a house there, yes I have seen it, and see how things go.
My question is what sort of visa do I apply for, can I get a visa whereby I could stay for say six months or just a thirty day one.
If all goes well, and I think it will as we have be together for 3 years now, I would actually like to put roots down there. I have the required money for banking and also income. Please advise the best possible routes to achieve this.
Many thanks for any help/advise offered.
