  1. Is this HiDef over Thai internet.. Please stop laughing !!!

Also upscaled 1080i.. Upscaled from what ?? Beause upscaling is not HiDef..

As to 'real 1080i' being available ?? Can I have some clues on this.. Am happy to spend to buy the equipment ?? What birds are broadcasting, when encryption is used, etc etc etc..

  2. Changwat = region / area / county etc... If its in Patts it probably has patts plates, if you bring it here it makes sense to change those to Phuket plates. You can of course have it on Patts plates but then (as I understand it) you have problems taxing it, or selling it, you have to move its changwat within a small time window of purchasing it I think. If its on BKK plates I think it can be taxed anywhere.

You might have an issue only being on a tourist visa.. I have managed this in the past but the rule says you must be a on a non imm to get it in your name, one reason I would try this in patts before its paid for.

You need to get a letter confirming your address either from immigration or embassy, Phuket town immigration are actually easy going on this so do it here its cheap and easy.

The seller needs different things depending on if its farang or Thai.. But ID card if thai, Passport and visa page and entry card if farang, and signatures on transfer document(s). Cant remember for sure but I think only the purchaser needs address proof (or tabien baan if Thai) and not the seller.

  3. I read about new satellites being launched with much greater scanning / imaging capability.. I think google actually had a % interest in them..

It updates as they get access to more data.. The idea of having the entire earth scanned within 1 month, for a free application.. Well maybe we ask too much ??

I think its a great tool / toy.. In fact would put it in the top 5 apps I have ever toyed with good reasons for net usage.. Then again I like maps and atlas's etc.

  4. What kind of subscription in option 1? Subscription for what?

As I said earlier, these channels are never free, you have to subscribe for UBC or some other provider. Which one did they offer?

Basically it means that you want to break UBC's monopoly in Thailand by subscribing to "foreign" company. Question is - are they any better, really?

Multichoice has less channels than UBC, and 58k a year is a rip off.

They never said what option 1) was, just that it would provide the channels I want.....

It will be UBC anyway !!

  5. Yet again the media is stuffed with utter uneducated nonsense. Free sign up email is blocked for a reason no one ever thinks of yet are suprised when they hear it, and in most cases nod with agreement seeing the point. Some first world mobile carriers block more than Myanmar - no onekicks up a fuss there.....I'd be foolish to say more, but one day will have my rant.

    And the reason is ??

    Which first world ones ??

  6. 30% sounds way too high.. But I dont know..

Mine has been fine so far.. People I know with them and none have had one die.. Others seem to have had multiples..

But yes, you buy one here and theres no warranty and thats just the way it is..

  7. Moving to Pattaya in September, I have read some topics on here about sat nav and would be interested to here any recomendations about different models especially if anyone has bought one recently, the brand everyone seems to rave about here in the UK is the TOM TOM but dont know if it's available in Thailand, topics on here seem to recommend the Garmin although the Garmin iQue M5 PDA according to Garmins site has now been disscontinued. Also can sat navs be purchased in Tucom in Pattaya or is Bangkok better. Thanks in advance for any info.
Garmin through their dealer esri in bkk have just released a cracking unit for 14000 baht, the map to buy ( and no one else has it ) is 12000 baht which makes this unit a bargain,.

Not true the Rotwieller maps are (i am told) pretty much as good as the garmin ones..

  8. I am trying to find out how much it SHOULD cost to have a 2006 Toyota Vios, repainted with a new color, from black to red. It seems some bonehead apparently shook up a can of Coca-cola and sprayed the car. At least thats what I suspect.

My Thai wife has checked a couple of places. One was the dealer: 70,000 baht. Some other place (not sure where) says 30,000-32000 bht. I know that changing the original color up's the paint job price, but can anyone tell me what is a realistic price to pay and maybe a shop in or near BKK to have it done?

We are trying to avoid useing the insurance company as we have used them twice since the car was bought already. Once for a couple of scrapes, and once for an accident.

    Thanks for any help.

I wouldnt change the color if i were you, it will cost more to do and you will get less when you sell,.for a spray only in pattaya its 25000 /30000 tops and the guy i used is very good,. ( thai )i had quotes from farang from 50 to 80 k :o

But is that to change color mike..

I mean the car needs to be taken back to its shell.. all the engine bays, all the under carpets, all the hidden metalwork etc etc etc..

I couldnt get those prices here.. Not just farang inflation on price either, I may not get Thai price but I haggle like a bastard my last spray job the guy was crybabying about how he was losing money..

  9. You can structure your residency issues in the UK to not be liable for tax for non UK sourced income.. Speak to a pro..

If you are receiving income for work you've performed while being physically present in Thailand, it means that you are carrying on a business or a trade in Thailand. The income you receive from your activities is deemed Thai source income and is subject to taxation in Thailand.

You are also prohibited from carrying on a business or a trade in Thailand without a work permit.

That being said, the odds of getting caught have been discussed here before. It's up to what you feel is right and what you're comfortable with.

And here lies the catch 22.. Its not possible to be self employed and to legalize yourself here is going to involve company formations, taxes, work permits, possibly Thai employees (to extend incountry anyway) etc etc etc..

So your going to have to get used to living in limbo, not paying tax, having no basis of long stay visa or facing some higher level of costs to legalise yourself which may not be possible depending on profit generated etc or just being illegally working..

  10. However all your buying then is equipment.. Not a regular feed..

I used to be into sat hobbying, and used to follow al the encryption standards and signal cracking etc.. All fine for a hobby, but not when you want to just sit down and watch TV..

  11. Nope no 3RLD.. Tho I take great care to keep super ventilated at on top of the stack..

Plus now theres the xclamp so I reckon things are looking up that way..

Still on live (sign in) but hardly used it so not currently gold.. May update that for halo but will want to have the drive flashed to the latest stealth FW..

  12. Regularly pushed 250 kph out of my 850 Csi.. Could sit at 200+ with your hands off the wheel, was rock solid stable at autobahn pace

The limiter would kick in then.. Could have that removed cheaply and heard of unmoddified (other than the limit) cars pulling in the 280 - 300 kph range..

    ###### I loved that motor :o

  13. We are trying to avoid useing the insurance company as we have used them twice since the car was bought already.

Don't think like that for Thailand. You got insurance exactly for this reason. Use it. Worst case is next year you don't get a discount on the insurance premium, however they will still want your business!! And if not, it's not like there's a shortage of insurance companies.

Anyway, 70K is ridiculous, 30K more in the ballpark.

Also, what many people don't do but what IS a smart move is to update the color on the registration booklet. This requires showing a bill for the paint job on which VAT was paid. So that will up the cost with 7%, however selling the car later then becomes a lot easier.

Not sure where.. I had a bare metal full body done locallay on an old jeep.. Sure then you can do 30..

But to fully do a modern car, to a 'as new' condition paint, no dust, perfect all over, new rubbers and seals, all the internal nooks and crannies.. Well I couldnt get it done for 30k here on phuket.. Not a quality I would be happy with on a new car..
