  1. The Somerset is 5 minutes walk to bts, I usually go to Siam Square by foot, there is a sky walk really convenient, stop 5 minutes at the intersection next to Hyatt Hotel, just after Amarim Mall, there is one of the most visited temple in Bangkok, the traditional thai danse is free of charge and if you can stand the noisy from the traffic the view comes directly from the future when the sky train across over your head. To MBK it is about 10 minutes by BTS. I've never had any problem at night time, but it is better to have your bag close to you, I had my bag stolen by a guy in a moto in the midle of afternoon. But believe me, that is unusual, just a lack of chance for me. Relax and enjoy your stay.

    Thanks for the reply.

Is it safe night in the surrounding areas?

Do you think is far from the main road for the BTS to Siam Square and to MBK?

    Hi

Thanks again. Is it easy to explain to the taxi driver where is Somerset?

Is it easy to get a cab right at Somerset door?

Do they have a tourist desk to book city tours?

  2. Are the any to share?

What about the location, the facilities, the accomodation and meals?

    Thanks

Hi, in fact I've just arrived at Somerset and I am enjoying indeed. Location is perfect, in a quiet "soi" but close to everything (bts, good restaurants, shopping centers, cinemas), the flat with one room is quite confortable (ask for garden view, is just amazing) and you can find all facilities for a long stay, such as in my case. Breakfast is beautiful, but not as a 5 stars hotel obviously, the pool is enouth to enjoy the sun, always quiet and clean, laundry is well equiped. The only dark point is the staff, very kind as usual, but a bit confused. Enjoy your stay!

Does the one bedroom enough ofr three persons?

    Thanks and enjoy your stay.

So, you have a double bed (but not king size) and a sofa at the living. May be you could ask for a extra bed ...

    Thanks for the reply.

  4. Would like to know if most of all hotels in Bangkok does have compulsory dinner on the 24th December for guests staying in the hotel like in Phuket and Koh Samui

    No hotels have compulsory dining.

And all hotels do NOT impose this onerous obligation. As noted, it depends on the hotel, with mostly the higher end joints making it compulsory (not cumpulsory to dine, just to pay)

    Check your hotel when booking.

You mean Bangkok or all Thailand hotels?

    My question is Bangkok

  5. Would like to know if most of all hotels in Bangkok does have compulsory dinner on the 24th December for guests staying in the hotel like in Phuket and Koh Samui

    :o

I think it depends on the hotel. Certainly at least some hotels have those "compulsory" dinners around Christmas and New Years day. A lot of the higher end hotels will have such a thing included in the price if you stay there on that day.

If you go online, as though you were booking a hotel, often they will often tell you the dates when a "compulsory" dinner is included in the price.

    :D

I haven't get the info but only this sentence" Compulsory Gala Dinner, which will be added to your booking cost, is applicable to certain hotels during festive seasons" and nothing more

  6. Having been to Vertigo and Sirocco plenty of times, I'd rank the former as the better place for pre- or post-dinner drinks, and the latter for better food. I find Sirocco's bar a bit too pretentious, but its kitchen knocks the socks off Vertigo's.

Thanks for you great reply. Now we know which one to choose

  7. How far is Grand Inn Come hotel to Airport and to downtown sathorn area or at least on nut BTS station

One good thing to understand about Bangkok is traffic. Last night my commute home - normal at 6:30 PM might be 35-50 min. was 1 hour 40 min. I'd say this happens about once a month for reasons unknown. (other than obvious like flooding). I don't think distance is the factor. Last night 1 hour 25 min. was going maybe 2 KM to get to the expressway and then I zoomed home.

Also within Bangkok unless you know a route really well there are some intersections and locations that are just problematic. For instance my commute is an easy one (25 min. in the morning). It's mostly free of what I call "intersections of death". But there are some areas and streets that are very bad at rush hour. If a location requires one of those it can add 30 min. to what seem like to very similar locations.

To about any place in Bangkok center an hour would be a safe to/from Airport time plus or minus 15 min. For rush hour add 30 min. I went from center to airport at 4PM the other day and it was about 35 min. But lucky no traffic. In your scheduling you should just allow 2 hours in your mind if you really want to relax. I woudn't try anything tighter than 2 hours before flight time for drive and check in. Again if rush hour add 30 min.

    Hope this helps

    My Life in Bangkok

    It help.

My flight will be at 8h30 am and would stay (maybe, yet to decide) in Novotel Bangna.

  8. :o If you look carefully you can see it....

    Thanks.

I haven't go there so how can i konw?

I think the pics posted by rinrada is of Baiyoke SkyTower. not sirocco or vertigo

baiyoke is the tallest building in thailand. its not as expensive as the other 2, but the view is also not as good. plus the restaurant is one level down...with glass windows all over. but u can only go up to the open air revolving viewing deck

not the same as sirocco and vertigo where you can sit and enjoy the view while having a drink or meal

ofcourse a huge huge huge price difference though

thanks for your quick and clear reply.

    Let rinrada clear

  9. Regarding Asanee's BIG WARNING

bang plee is NOT near the airpt at all its near the OTHER side of the airport, just like Sapan Mai used to be back side of D Mang

the guesthse may cost just 3/400, but a taxi will NOT know the way and likely cost as much!

My advice would be to go to ramKamHaeng/Bangkapi area, there are at least some 20 hotels/Thai style there, swallow the heap, it will cost you like 100/150 THB taxifare Both ways anyway on top of the room! but it may take just 10/15 mins, as most askers about this want an early flight out next day

While I now sit in kris Flyer's Seoul/Incheon airport liunge, this airport really has something to teach the thai how to work it, excellent! near to Singy's Changi niveau!

Actually Bangplee IS near the airport as the airport is in Bangplee district. The airport is in Nongprue suburb of Bang Phli, Samutprakarn, 10540. I think what Khun Asanee is warning is that Bangplee itself is at the rear side of the airport, however it takes only about 20 minutes to drive from Bangplee along the excellent new highway that runs parallel to the runways to the terminal front entrance. The taxi fare would be whatever it takes for 20 minutes (and no tollways). The taxi driver would have to be a right donut not to be able to follow all the blue signs to the airport. RamKamHaeng/Bangkapi area however may well be a better alternative for selection of accomm.

Is it Novotel Bangna is this area? How far is this hotel to airport and to dowtown sathor area (suam lung night bazar)

    Thanks in advance

  10. Vertigo is on top of banyan tree which is on sathorn road

sirocco is on top of state tower...which is a serviced apartment at the end of siolm road

sirocco is closer to the river, but i find the view from vertigo more interesting

also personal opinion....i felt the service at vertigo was much better than at sirocco...or atleast better than Distil, the bar one floor below sirocco

    Thanks for the explanation.

Our goal is to take photos at the top

  11. I think great for drinks but mixed for food. First time I went wrote a review on my blog. In the end I'm not sure the food is worth it - sure for an expense account why not. But it's really a special place for drinks. Took a group of 12 up there the other night for sunset. That's great to go up in the day and watch things get dark and Bangkok light up.

    Have fun,

    thanks for all the replies.

Vertigo is in Banyan Tree hotel top and the Siricco is in the dome tower,am I right?

If yes what's the main difference betweeen this two? Which do you think it's better for a couples of drinks and specially photos?
