  1. If the owner PMs me and gives permission, I would be glad to start a poll asking locals how important a SALSA BAR is to them

You can mark me down as not giving a darn about salsa - here or back home. I did used to enjoy free salsa and corn chips with a Mexican in the Mission District in San Fran, but would never pay for salsa and decent corn chips are quite expensive here.

I do understand that some people are fanatical about salsa, but do not get it personally.

Ditto on the salsa rant...regular and spicy is enough for me.

  2. The Ranger Wildtrack I looked at mainly was the 3.2 A/T, 4X4 . The 3.2 package is different as the seats are color coded leather and Vynal with orange stipe, 18 inch tires and wheels, Rear bumper, different style roll bar, rear camera, just plain fancier and was told delivery is for April for 3.2 and Feb for 2.2. 2.2 is cloth seats and all over not as fancy but 16" tires and wheels, and not same options at all. I was quoted 1.2 million for 3.2. The orange metalic is worth just going to see!!!

Who quoted you 1.2 million? Thats much steeped that the prediction of less than 1.1 million. If ford go stupid like that I doubt they will sell many; most preferring the top model 2.2 in that case.

    Or top-line Mitsubishi Triton Plus.

  3. No problems from the CBD, just get off at Muangthong or Chaengwatta from the expressway. This particular area was never flooded (From Pak Kret to Klong Prapa). Of course I'll be going, probably tomorrow, as I'm only 10 mins from there:)

If taking the MRT or BTS, which station to exit to get as close as possible to the venue? Never been out there...is it difficult to get a taxi to go there on the meter from the CBD area?

There is a shuttle bus from BTS Mochit.

    http://www.motorexpo...off-shuttle-bus

If you can't open the above page, use this one http://www.motorexpo.co.th/2011/ and click on How to get there, and then on PICK-UP & DROP-OFF SHUTTLE BUS

Thanks for the info...if I don't want to wait around for a shuttle-bus, how far is it to the venue from Morchit (approx. taxi fare)?

  5. I have picked up the current pricelist from 2 Ford dealers which arrived today and it states: 4x4 3.2 High Rider XLT W/T 6 A/T 969000 Baht

    Im assuming W/T = Wildtrak?

Are you sure that it is a 3.2 under 1mb, I understand it is the 2.2 range ONLY released so far...and no pricing exists for the 3.2????

So IMHO it is 2WD wildtrak 6 A/T 2.2 869,000 delivery Feb 2012 supposedly I have been offered 2.75% on 20% deposit BTW and slightly better price than this however i doubt other people would be eligible on the price thing, plus it's chump change in difference

    4WD wildtrack 6 A/T 2.2 969,000 delivery Feb 2012 supposedly int rate ditto

The 3.2 price isn't released yet, but all signs point to being at least 100k more than the 4WD 2.2, and my guess is more like 150k more. Delivery the guy I talk to is saying April 2012; I would believe that's about right; will be putting my deposit down tomoro at the motorshow anyhow, as why not join the queue at least.

For me, I am not eligible for some dips&*t 1st car buyer scheme and I won't park it in my GF's name since she also wants to buy a car.....so I question paying 969k for a car that is worth 900k off the lot since that's what some other people are paying. This first car scheme is the biggest scheme of idiocy I've seen in a long while. Mostly because I cannot benefit ;-)

For 150k, I think that's worth it for

    - privacy glass (I don't know what that is)

    - chiller in the dashboard

    - bluetooth (maybe other WT models have this)

    - big engine that i don't really need, but is cool

    - 18" rims (probably won't change them out)

    - some safety malarky I don't need probably, but who knows until I start towing 3 tonne trailers up to Wat Doi Suthep or similar

However I most want heated seats to screw with my passengers ;-)

If they didn't have this 1st car scheme I'd be all over the 4WD 2.2....as is the best decision will be waiting for the 3.2 instead I think.

If the 3.2 wildtrack is under 1mb that is the BIGGEST BARGAIN EVER and you have just made me cream in my pants (I am mixing a coffee with creamer()

"Privacy glass" refers to having tinted Windows, at least that's my understanding.

Scroll back and look at MRO's posts. We are thinking this is the wildtrak 2.2 - the 3.2 could be 100K more.

The pricelist in front of me has the 2.2 High Rider XLT W/T 6 A/T at 869000 Baht which is 100k less than the 3.2L Wildtrak price i quoted before.

Below is a copy of the pricelist i was given today: by two different dealerships

    Style Open Cab

    2.2 XLT, 6M/T 659,000

    2.2 High rider XLT, 6 M/T 699,000

    2.2 High rider XLT, W/T 6 A/T 759,000

    Style 4 door

    2.2 XLT, 6 M/T 739,000

    2.2 High rider XLT 6 M/T 779,000

    2.2 High rider XLT 6 A/T 799,000

    2.2 High rider XLT W/T, 6 A/T 869,000

    4x4 3.2 High rider XLT W/T, 6 M/T 879,000

    4x4 3.2 High rider XLT W/T, 6 A/T 969,000

This confirms my information (and prior post) that all of the new Ranger models, including the 3.2s will be priced under a million baht.

  7. Sorry for his familly ,but yet another idiot on a high power bike without a helmet and not enough brains to control one. just another lunatic tourist not going home.

Ditto...just glad he didn't take down any innocent bystanders with him.

I must first give conolences to the family. Then I must suggest that nowhere does it say that the deceased was without a helmet. The motocycle looked like a Ninja 250 (hardly a high-powered bike). One of many things may have occured, dog, saloong, crazed lady in the road causing a normal (non-lunatic) person to take evasive action. Inexperience and a poor quality helmet ( if any ) would not help the poor man's chances.

There were reports it was late at nite and he was traveling "at speed." Not usually a good combination because of the hazards you mention.

  8. All this talk of Mexican food is wetting my appetite...may have to head on over to Phnom Penh for a few days

A shorter trip would be to just stop by Charlie Brown's, La Monita, or Tacos & Salsa in Bangkok. In tune with your Beefeater's comment even Bourbon Street buffet is far better and more representative of Tex Mex food than Sunset Tacos, but any new addition to the Mexican food scene in the Pattaya area, especially in Jomtien is a good thing.

But then I'd be missing the atmosphere of the riverfront promenade.

Yeah, one can never tire of smirking/laughing out loud about the antics of the NGO dumbasses.

Hey...don't mock them...they're "saving the world."

  9. A California-Mex burrito is not a snack. A few tacos may be a snack, but a burrito is a meal. Easy to spend 10 bucks for a burrito in the US. Bottom line, acceptable Mexican food has pricing power in Thailand, like it or not. BTW, my description of the Sunrise Bangkok burritos I have had is much more Cali-Mex and Tex-Mex.

Burritos in Mexico are a Northern Mexican thing, and "authentic" ones generally just meat in a flour tortilla, in that case yes one would be a snack. I'm sure that's not what is served at Sunrise.

  10. .

"Bottle of water and a burrito and I walked out of there almost 300 baht poorer"

WOW - I haven't been back to the States in a while, but can't ever remember spending almost US$10 for a snack . . . :o --- Would be interesting to see the final tab on a standard Mex. meal for four.

I have paid 8-10 dollars for "grande" sized burritos with all the trimings at places in the States...but these were in a Mexican 'hood and prepared and served by genuine illegals, so very authentic indeed

  11. The top of the range Mazda 3's price on their site says 1,069,000 bht. The new Mazda 2 will be in the showroom at Mukdahan tomorrow-Friday, to compare with the opposition.

Friend of mine had a Mazda 3 now sold it reason for selling he couldn't afford the petrol station to go with it.

I think the general assumption is if one can afford to buy a car in the first place, one has the means to gas it up, service it when necessary, and insure it. These costs just come with the territory of car ownership.

Maybe but when he had it we did a trip me in 3lt Fortuner 4 up+ luggage him in his Mazda3 3 up ditto. I used just under 2,200bt in fuel, him over 4,200bt admittedly mine is a diesel but 4,200bt+ EEEEEK There was a couple of more reasons why he sold it one the exhaust fell off another the rear suspension collapsed that bit was the last straw.

Interesting comparison there on fuel...I wonder what the same trip would look like when the diesel subsidies come off? That's really great that you get an almost 50% cost savings using diesel and with a much heavier vehicle. The Mazdas come out as the same plant as the Ford Focus/Fiesta so assume the quality problems with your friend's car were a one-off.

  13. If you are willing to travel a little try CC Road house on Siam Country Club Road about 3 to 4 Km up towards the lale, on the left, the Burgers are superb :P and so is the other food. :D

its the best i have found in the area.

    More like 6-7 kilos.

    6-7 kilos...that's a huge burger...unsure.gif

It's free if you survive it :D

  14. I would go with the suggestion above that the default display output on the computer somehow was reset from the HDMI port to another port (maybe VGA in you case). Go ahead and re-connect the HDMI cable and open up your display settings menu in the control panel and check that HDMI is selected as the default. You may also have to restart the computer.

HDMI cables can fail but it is very rare...more likely the settings as above.

  15. Where is Nong Phen?

    Cambodia?

If so 4k return is not that bad. Would cost more on fuel to drive...

Still to much...some people want everything for free. Most of us consumers have figured out that the advertised price of airline tickets bears little relation to the final cost (at least in Asia). I, for one, don't actually mind paying what it actually costs to fly me to someplace (plus a little extra in profit) as it helps keeps airlines in business and makes my travels around the world easier than walking; and you don't constantly have airlines going in and out of bankruptcy like in the United States.

I have traveled using AA extensively in Asia and have generally found their service to be very good, their planes very new, their prices very competitive, and their air-waitresses very hot  :jap:

  16. I agree completely about the food there. Sunday lunch, roast beef yorkshires etc. 160 Baht. Half the price of most other places and great quality.

Is it still a "chicken farm"? I like to eat my meals in peace and not be bothered by a flock of obnoxious birds.

  17. Some more prices announced, apologies for the spelling, I used google translate!

The Open Cab 4X2 XLT 6-speed manual transmission 659,000 Baht

The Open Cab 4X2 Hi - Rider XLT 2.2 liter 6-speed manual transmission 699,000 Baht

The Double Cab 4X2 XLT 6-speed manual transmission 739,000 Baht

The Open Cab 4X2 Hi - Rider XLT Wild Track 6-speed automatic transmission, 759,000 THB

The Double Cab 4X2 Hi - Ryder 6-speed manual transmission XLT 779,000 Baht

The Double Cab 4X2 Hi - Rider XLT 2.2 liter 6-speed automatic transmission, 799,000 THB

The Double Cab 4X2 Hi - Raider 2.2 liters Wild Track 6-speed automatic transmission, 869,000 THB

The Double Cab 4X4 Hi - Ryder 6-speed manual transmission XLT 879,000 Baht

The Double Cab 4X4 XLT Wild Track 6-speed automatic transmission, 969,000 THB

What's the last one, XLT wildtrak? I thought they were two different models. I assume this is the 3.2 XLT, as I thought the 3.2 wildtrak will top 1 million baht?

I am informed that Ford wants to keep all prices, including for the top-line 3.2 model, under B 1M, this will qualify them for the car tax rebate program.
