" Western politicians should stop pretending that extremism and terrorism have nothing to do with Islam. There is a clear relationship between fundamentalism, terrorism, and the basic assumptions of Islamic orthodoxy. So long as we lack consensus regarding this matter, we cannot gain victory over fundamentalist violence within Islam. Radical Islamic movements are nothing new. They’ve appeared again and again throughout our own history in Indonesia. The West must stop ascribing any and all discussion of these issues to “Islamophobia.” Or do people want to accuse me — an Islamic scholar — of being an Islamophobe too?" https://time.com/4930742/islam-terrorism-islamophobia-violence/

Hey?!?! Who gave me a confused emoji? 😃😁

Oh, but he does. And he is not normal. But then, is any leader of any country a normal person?

Judging by the huge numbers of posts by some posters, I would say you are wrong about the forum not being an integral part of anyone's life. I dare say that there are some who post here, who, not long ago, had more posts in one month, than I had in the entire 14 years and 4 months that I have been a member!

Every time I see the words "woke means ..." posted by someone defending the term "woke", the definition is different. I don't think anyone supporting the "woke" even knows what the word "woke" means. -

Run for a political position in Thailand and straighten them out. -
I am glad that global warming happened and melted the ice bergs or what ever you call that thick sheet of ice that came all the way down from the north pole and possibly covered the area where my house was eventually built, just north of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania! Otherwise, my wife would have me outside every fricking day, running the snow blower to get the 2 feet (or more) of snow off the sidewalks and driveway, and my fruit trees would be perpetually frozen!

You think America is strange. Have you seen a map of russia and its republics, krais, oblasts, and cities of federal importance? More than 20 of those too. -
Supreme Court says Texas can arrest and jail migrants

Have you read the law that is applicable? The law allows the arrest of an alien that enters the "State" (the State in this context being Texas) directly from a foreign country, without legally entering the "State" through legal ports of entry. There are other "defenses" to being in the United States or the State of Texas that preclude the arrest of an alien. The law does not merely allow for the arrest of an alien that is in the United States illegally. -

mikebell must be hanging out with the wrong Thai crowd. My wife and her family are pretty much what you described. A bunch of work a holics! Good with money too. My wife asked if I would loan her $120,000.00 from my retirement fund. She paid it back in less than 2 years. She has a business that earns her more money than anyone else I have known, except that guy down in Texas that sold drill pipe to the oil well industry. He was making over a 3 million a year at 2% sales commission, in today's money! My brother in law (BIL) across the street from me works a full time job and has a side business as well that he works. His ex father and mother in law (EFIL & EMIL) continued to live with him after his wife divorced him and remarried. EFIL & EMIL are up at dawn doing something to make money. I go across the street to talk with BIL's EFIL and I find him always working on something, fixing it up to so the BIL can sell it on facebook. mikebell's all inclusive claims about Thai's fall flat as all the Thai's I know, not just my wife and inlaws, are hard working honest people. That might even include the Thai cop who works in the Vipawadee police department. -
Removing shoes going into a shop- selective hygiene?
radiochaser replied to Scouse123's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I was in Udon Thani area back in 1972 - 1973. The main road through town and the highways traveling in Thailand were paved then. Almost no other road/street was. All the bungalows had chairs or benches for those that wore laced up shoes or boots. Removing laced up shoes or boots was a pain during the dry season, but was a necessity during the rainy season. Otherwise, you tracked mud inside. We never removed boots when entering communication vans or trucks. It was a pain having to mop them out nearly every day during the rainy season. At least in the trucks we could hose the mud out without concern for water sensitive electronic equipment damage. Sometimes there was so much mud tracked into the comm vans on our boots, we used a shovel to scoop some of it out. I remember this as the reason, both in Vietnam and Thailand, as the reason for removing shoes when entering places. Not for hygienic reasons, for muddy reasons. Even here in the U.S. of A., there were houses built with "mud rooms" for the same reason, to remove footwear so as not to walk mud into the house. I live in a 71 year old house and it has a storm door, mud room, and then the entry door.
