  1. May be an off topic response. Your comment reminds me of when my family was living in Germany and my dad sent me to the back of a local beer joint to buy him two bottles of beer. I stood in line behind other American kids about my age, 12, and watched them buy beer. I get up to the man selling it and he says, what do you want. I say, I want to two bottles of beer. He says, no! I will not sell you beer! Stunned I walked home and tell my dad the man would not sell me any beer. Dad says, tell me exactly what you said to him. Me, "I want two bottles of beer." Dad says go back and tell him, "my dad wants to buy two bottles of beer." I do and the guy sells me the beer. Apparently, by saying my dad wants to buy beer means I am just a proxy buyer for my dad and that the beer is not for me.
  2. I keep looking at the pistol in the news report and I keep thinking, that is not a Colt Defender. I have made several internet searches and have not found a Colt Defender, Series 90 in a .380 ACP caliber. Only .45 ACP. And the finish on that thing. Looks like it is chipping off a cheap pot metal base fake copy. I think it is a fake Colt firearm. Also the frame it looks like it is stamped with "Made in Turkey", but I am not sure the last word is "Turkey".
  3. Why could he not have found some criminal Thai that wanted to illegally sell a firearm and the Thai told him to meet outside a grocery store, in the parking lot? Like when I buy things advertised on facebook marketplace or craigslist and the seller wants to meet in a police department parking lot or in a Taco Bell parking lot to make the sale (machine tools not firearms). A much more believable thing than the guy managed to smuggle a firearm and ammunition through the security of an international airport in Australia!
  4. Thanks. I looked at the picture in your post and thought, great, I would have to get someone to translate the Thai into English. Then at the link (using google chrome to translate into English LOL) I found they sell them with English too.
  5. I don't know why the war was created other than it seems that Putin wants to conquer Ukraine for "historical russia" reasons. Mostly I just see those on the left crying about helping out Ukraine and claiming that those on the right are supporting russia (I have neither seen nor heard anyone on the right doing what the left claims they are doing). I do watch combat footage and reporting on the Ukraine invasion on youtube, from those that allege they are participants in the war. I also watch reports from a news organization in Poland. Pisses me off though reading and hearing about the russians targeting civilians, but, also understand that historically, that is what was done in wars.
  6. Alex Jones won't give me his phone number or email address, neither will Trump ... so ...
  7. I would not know about UK government bodies investing public money. I live in one of the colonies.
  8. I eat ice cream frequently. The only adult teeth that have been removed were two impacted molars, back in 1970, when I was in the Army. I don't know about that thirst bit. Sliced bananas taste good on a peanut butter sandwich. Now, if you want a banana food that tastes good and sweet! Chop one or two bananas up, put into a pan or pot with 1 - 2 tablespoons of butter, heat and stir until the bananas are all creamy, eat. Damn that is good! Be sure to use salted butter.
  9. I have eaten at chick fil a. The best food they have there are the crackers for the chicken soup. Very mediocre tasting food! I have also had better ice cream than ben and jerry's!
  10. Off topic, I used to know a man who was in the same Army organization I was in decades ago in Vietnam. He and a friend of his went through all the paperwork to take back, real, AK47 rifles to the United States. They had some difficulty boarding the aircraft with the AK's. The Army's regulations for transporting firearms aboard chartered commercial aircraft was, the bolt goes in the checked baggage and the rifle goes with the passenger on board the aircraft. I think he said that the departure of the aircraft was delayed until it was confirmed that the rifle was required to accompany the passenger in the passenger cabin and not be in the baggage hold with the checked baggage.
  11. Any knowledge on how long it can be left there? What about hours of operation? I was wondering if I could take luggage there a day or two before I leave Thailand, then pick it up just before I check in for my flight. Also thinking that might not be a good idea too, but, still wondering if it could be done.
  12. That happens often when any celebraty politician is speaking there in the House. Does not matter which side of the aisle the favored speaker is on.
  13. Much more comfortable than economy plus. Join the different airline groups such as Star Alliance and others. Search their websites for the lowest fare.
  14. How can they be socialists if the left describes them as far right wingers?
  15. As a sort of off topic response to your last paragraph ... I used to know a woman that lived on the outskirts of Hiroshima when it was nuked. She was 12 at the time. I asked her what she thought about the U.S. bombing Hiroshima with a nuclear bomb. Her response did surprise me a little, "It was a war. That's what happens in a war." Hopefully, there will be no more nukes used in a war anywhere or any time again. No fire bombing either. War is enough of a horror as it is now!
  16. off the topic Are you from one of the states that requires a gun license? Without doing an internet search, two states I know of that require firearms licenses are New York and New Jersey. Perhaps Illinois, Minnesota and I think, most recently, California. I have never shown a firearms license when checking a firearm for air travel in over 40 years of travel (I don't have and am not required to have a firearms license where I live). It didn't matter what state I was in. I never check a firearm for air travel on an aircraft that lands in or takes off from states that requires a "firearm license"! What I am required to show on checking firearms in for a flight is that the firearm is not loaded, any ammo is in a box separate from the firearm (federal law stipulates the ammo box be a factory ammo box), and no ammo is in a magazine. I think there is a limit on the number of rounds allowed to be checked in too. I also carry a printed copy of the federal laws and airline requirements regulating the checking in of firearms for air travel. Too many airline employees do not know what their airline employer or what the federal laws are for this. Now days, I mostly drive if I take more than my carry pistol. Federal laws provide protection for interstate transport of personal firearms. When I was gainfully employed, I used my federal agent ID & badge when checking in at airline counters. It made the process of checking firearms easier as the airline employees did not freak out and call for managers when I told them I was checking a firearm in my baggage (it takes a little longer now that I am retired.) The airline employees frequently assumed I wanted to carry a loaded, concealed carry firearm into the cabin area. I never did that. Sometimes airline employees wanted to sit me near the other law enforcement people that were transporting criminals from one state to another. I never did that as I wasn't being paid to accompany criminals in flight!!
  17. "Thurrock Council is likely to recover a significant chunk of that money through the impending solar farm disposals, according to industry sources." Or not. Seems this might be like the solar company that the U.S. Government, under Pres obama, invested $700,000,000.00 into that went bankrupt (if I recall corretly)! https://www.thebureauinvestigates.com/stories/2022-07-15/his-companies-made-a-deal-for-138m-of-taxpayers-money.-where-has-it-gone
  18. I'm in my 70's as well. I use the word even if I didn't spell it correctly. I don't recall my grandmother ever talking about her undergarments. Might have something with her growing up in back woods Louisiana in the early 1900's. I'm not even sure women wore brassieres in the back woods of Louisiana back then.
  19. I don't know if this is an off topic question or not. Here in the U.S. of A. I have devices I use to plug in and check the wiring in electrical outlets. It tells me if there is an "open ground", "open neutral", "open hot", "hot and ground reversed", "hot and neutral reversed", and "correct wiring". The device also has a button I can push which will activate a GFCI (I don't remember the term I have seen used on Aseannow forums), which shuts off power off to electrical outlets. This device is for 120 volts here in the U.S. is there an equivalent plug in device I can purchase in Thailand in say, a Home Pro store that is for 220 volts that I can use to check two prong and 3 prong outlets to verify that the outlet is wired correctly? Also, is there a way to use a multi meter to check hot water heater electrical feeds to see if the heater is wired incorrectly (even if it heats water)? I really do not want to feel that electrical tingle when I am taking a shower, much less to be electrocuted and end up naked and dead on the floor of the shower!!! I am not a sparky, even though I have found and corrected miss wired electrical devices here in the U.S. of A.!
  20. I have never left a passenger behind. A $20,000.00 radio receiver, yes, but not any human beings!
  21. I had a Thai language teacher like that when I was stationed at a military base in Thailand 1972-1973. She had 4 years of English language in Thailand and continued for, I think, 8 years in the U.S of A. for a masters degree in English language. She still had a Thai accent. As opposed to a young woman I spoke with for a few minutes when I was taking a Thai language class at Chulalakorn University 4 or 5 years ago. I thought she was an American of Thai decent due to her accent, which was the same as my brothers Arkansas accent. After I asked what southern state, in the U.S. of A. she was from, she told me she had never been outside of Thailand. Her English language teacher was from Arkansas.
