Only 2% of Thais pay tax......there must be many that owe it but just don't pay it
An example:
15 years ago my wife owned a restaurant in CM.
She had a visit from the taxman.
He asked her how much she was making and she said times were tough and she was not making hardly anything after she had paid her staff.
The taxman was very sympathetic, did not ask to see the books and they settled on a figure of 500 baht for the year.
As it goes she was hardly making any money and what she said was truthful , but she could easily have been fibbing.
How many don't tell the truth about thier tax affairs?
So now they want to target westerners pensions as we are easy targets

As a type 2 sufferer I fail to understand why it is not possible to purchase a Continuous Glucose Monitor in Thailand, unlike many Western countries. These easy to use devices give out realtime information on glucose levels without the finger prick. This greatly enhanced our ability to understand the impact that foods have and modify our eating to minimise sugar spikes. Why does this country prevent us living a more carefully managed life? I suspect there is pressure from the likes of hospitals that want to control their use and make big bucks.
I prick my finger every morning, it's not an issue for me......we do not live in the west.
At least you can easily purchase diebetis monitoring equipment...that was not the case 20 years ago so there has been progress

Now the BIG question did they work and did you get your money's worth....
regards Worgeordie
They were knock offs at that price.
An original pack of four costs at least 2,000 baht.
They can work but you should check that your BP is normal before taking them, fake or otherwise, low blood pressure and any form of sexual enhancement drugs can give you a heart attack. ❤️ Be careful

There are only two airports in Thailand that can accommodate AUTO-Landings. BKK and DMK both have Cat II approaches.
Chiang Mai (CNX) has Category 1 approach ILS which is NOT autoland. The minimums are 233ft where you must SEE the runway required criteria, then you disconnect the auto pilot and land manually.
In other words, heavy rain or smog can prevent a landing and go around.
Cheers!
In previous years when pollution is very very bad planes have been diverted to other airports.
I have not seen any reports of that happening this year

It will be fine in about a month until next February.
The South is about double the cost up north for restaurant food.
My gym in Chiang Rai charges 50B for day pass, just paid 350B and while the gym area had superb equipment, it wasn't really air conditioned adequately.
So, you don't necessarily get more just because it's more expensive.
OK, the beach is technically free in the South, but then you're tempted to eat there and pay OMG prices.
Anantara, a 5 star resort on Samui wants 1000B for a Phuket lobster roll.
C'mon. Is it really that good? 😊
Not in Hua Hin.....property is the same price for buying or rental
Food is a similar price
Beers the same
I am spending no more now than when I lived in Chiang Mai
I can't speak for the islands but islands are always more expensive but you can travel all the way down south to Surat Thani and it's cheap...but HH is as far as I wanted to go as it has everything a westerner needs and is only 3 hours from Bangkok

Been through 11 years of this, and not one step forward to deter or effectively combat these clowns causing so many problems.
Leads me to surmise that either there is financial incentive not to stop anyone or the government is just too damn inept to deal with it.
Either way, TAT is going to see it’s precious tourism revenue suffer, as the burning seasons extends itself longer and longer…Probably not be until the end of May that the skies will clear, so four months this year..?
The missus and I have had enough, we’re off down south, I don’t want to but it’s ridiculous to think that this is just continue on unabated and considered a normal part of living in Chiang Mai.Regrettably I left my "forever home" in CM last September after 20 years because of the terrible burning season last year.
I relocated to Hua Hin.
Obviously looking at the pollution this year it seems I made the correct decision.
I miss my mates as does my wife though.
We already came back to visit in January and will go again in August.
I hope that one day the government gets a handle on this as there could well be many more people like me that are not prepared to put up with it, turning CM into a ghost town.
If you don't need to be there, then don't be there and potentially harm yourself, especially if you are a pensioner like me with health issues.
It was stressful, but doable to sellup- buy and move.

You can only taste 5 things: salt, sweet, sour, bitter, and umami. Sounds like your sense of smell is what is off. Are there other things that used to smell good but now don't? Perfumes, soaps, aftershave, fabric softeners, people, vanilla, garlic, onions,
...?
I haven't noticed but now you have mentioned it I will do that

but then you say you do taste
So you do taste but it is not normal, is that right? Or is it completely lost?
Can you smell your food? If so is the smell normal or horrible?
Smell is OK....it's my ability to taste what I am eating...what I can taste is the awful taste if that makes sense. Spicy food seems OK, but then I have celiac disease and have to watch what I eat, also I have type 2 diebetis.....that might have a bearing, but it's easy to blame other things when the simple answer is what other people have. Long Covid
Even a simple salad is inedible as are French fries , pasties pies etc
Tonight we will eat chicken with black pepper. Hopefully my wife will make it extra spicy and then I can eat it

I have completely lost my sense of taste.
I had Covid in December I lost my taste.
However it came back to around 90% of what it was in January, so looking positive.
But in March my sense of taste has gone again and has become so bad that the majority of my food tastes horrible.....seems the only food I can tolerate is spicy as the spice masks the taste of the food.
So no western food, beer too, that tastes bad.
My friend said that nicotene patches are said to work, but I am concerned about readdiction to nicotene as I worked very hard to quit.
Anybody else any experience with this problem?

To be fair the council have been out and shifted everything from outside the King's Park on 123.

It's a succinct but pertinent answer. If you have not heard from your CI bank, you will in the future.
Assuming you are a Thai tax resident, the UK and the Channel Islands have an active CRS relationship with Thailand. Banks are obliged to report accounts to the Thai tax authorities. To make that report, they need your TIN. That's why they will ask for it.
My CI Bank hounded me for my TIN about 5 years ago.
I actually have one from when I had a company here 20 years ago
Would this be what you may be referring to Jayboy?

You will.
What sort of answer is that?
It's a bullsh*t answer as you have not addressed the question.
Means I think you made it up unless you can give me any details I will assume its not factual
