  1. GS is a "Saviour" of teams. He is uually bought i to save teams that are doing badly. Now he is the Manager of a team with High Expectations so I suppose he is now under a different type of pressure.

I think it will take him a while to adjust to the fact that he IS expected to WIN every game that Celtic play.

So I agree that he should be given time, if it does not work out then either West Ham, Wigan, WestBrom or maybee even Fulham will benefit from his policy of Scaping for every point.

He did say though after theiir drubbing in Europe that he had never been so embarressed in all his professional life, so at least he is honest enough to acknoweldge he has problems.

I think he will get there but Martin O'Neil will be a tough act to follow

  2. After watching and being very impressed with both the Thai Under 23 team and the National Team in the 3 games I have seem them play, which division in the English League could they hold their own in.

What they lack in skill, I have never seen a team with such a fantastic"Shoot on Sight" Policy.

    What are your thoughts?

  3. The onluy benefit the Post has over the Nation is that it has a large classified section which the Nation does not, and to be honest I used the Nation first to advertise for staff a few years back and got a poor response, but the Post gave ne 10 times as many. Would seem Thais only buy it for the classified ads.

  4. They have also just replaced the "New" editor as well, giving him a role of head of IT, so it was quite obvious he was not towing the line either as that does not look like a promotion to me! :o

I did however notice that Bernard Trink is back-doing fikm and book reviews, "needs must where the devil drives" I suppose

  5. This topic got touched on in the thread about 'sex and thailand' but it seems to have gone off the point a bit!!

How about this thread dedicated to any tired misrepresentations of Thailand by foreign people or the media.  This is my little rant.......

I live in England at the moment with my wife who is thai - I lived in thailand for about three years where I met her - she has a professional occupation and is 4 years younger than me (i'm 33).  When it comes up in conversation with new aquaintences that my wife is Thai I often find myself quickly explaining that a) I lived in Thailand where i met her and :o she is educated with a professional job.  The raised eyebrow and the beginnings of a smirk on the face of the person i am talking to makes me do this - although i regret it as its not there buisness and so  if i had bought her off the internet so what!!

The reason that the perception of Thailand is like this is almost entirely the foreign medias fault.  Prostitution, peadaphilia, internet brides, ladyboys, drugs and beaches is all anyone knows and this fuelled by crass films like Bridget Jones Diary 2 which included a jaunt to Thailand covering all the prementioned points as comedy devices (very lame and boring!!).  I was watching a serious documentary on the BBC about a year ago on Jeffrey Archer (criminal politician) which advertised with the line -  'the trail of deceit goes all the way to seedy Bangkok' cue images of Patpong, girls in short skirts etc.  Watching the documentary J Archer never even been to Thailand but his former business associate from England now lives somewhere in Thailand - and thats where they interviewed him - no other connection.

My wife finds it quite funny but also a bit sad the way her country is portrayed - a lot of people express surprise that the whole of thailand is not a beach!! and surely its time that 60+milion people were not stereotyped as the residents of Patpong!!

thats all (srry about the spellings but its late and im a bit drunk!)

It is unfortunatley someyhing you are going to have to deal with for the length of your marriage (Till Death Do You Part) I hope.

IT makes no odds as to wheather your Wife was a Bar Girl, Beauty Consultant or a Universirty Lecturer. As soon as you spill the words "My Wife's from Thailand" you will 9 times out of ten get that little smirk, or if not thats what they are really thinking.

It is a tragic shame but I adopt a policy of not giving a flying fukc about what other peple think, I love my Wife very much she makes me happy, and that is the MOST IMPORTANT THING. YOUR HAPPINESS, but I'm afaraid that small-mindedness seems to rule. I really did not know much about Thailand when I first came 4 years ago to visit my Son, but I can understand why people think the way they do, I think you can say "It goes with the territory". I could accept it more from those that may have been gere for a holiday (young lads between 20-30 buy as far as anybody else goes, they have not been her so how can they judge you -which they have no right to do anyway.

Walk down the street with your heda held high,

and be proud to say "My Wife is Thai'

    cheers

  7. This is the LAST thing Phuket needs right now.

I could understand if there were clampdowns in other Cities/Towns, but Phuket needs all the help in can get right now in attracting tourists. Readers abroad viewing this thread may think twice about the town as their holiday destination. What a shame!

  12. I tried registering with Paypal, but they e-mailed me back saying my password was incorrect. Now I KNOW it was not.

What was even more disturbing was that the e-mail came with a message from Microsoft saying this e-mail has not been verified (I am sure a lot of others have seen this message, so I am reluctant to pursue it. Has anybody else had this problem. They said in the message I would have to phone the USA to get it corrected. Is this right?

What do you consider a readonable cost for preparing sale documents and giving advice. I have been quoted 5k so far which I thought was expensive for 2 hours work or so?

  14. Why take the risk of living in a village in the 1st place? :D

It would be all hunky-dory for a while, just like a honeymoon and then the probs would/might start.

Live far enough away from inlaws etc to make them think twice about visiting you, that way you have privacy and only see the relos occasionaly.

Those of you who have a good life in a village are the exception, not the rule.

    Over to you  :D

Cobber:  If you put the brakes on the money nobody wants to have anything to do with you.

You will have 2 english speaking friends , UBC and thaivisa.com.

When you've had enough who will buy your house.

    Very true.... :o

    Ozzydom,

Udon is spot on, whats wrong with where you live now.? I have your tel number and will give you a call tomorrow at some stage, PM me a good time to call

Cheers, all is not lost. Sleep welll

  15. I still have not got any idea what you are on about. If you are tallking about what gets me through the night, would be sex if I was not crock, then two tapazipan followed by an insonia pill. Sometimes they work sometimes they dont. Hence why you see me at 3am, The Sex always worked though?

Next time Tom post a more thoughtful thread that fools like us can understand

  16. She OWNS your house!

Does she OWN the vehicles too?

    What else does she OWN?

Bank accounts in her OWN name too?

Is this biz being set up as her OWN?

When the dastardly deed (promise, promise and then let me down! ) is done, pray tell us why  she would need you then?  Because you are madly, unrelentingly in love with her?

You can't possibly be a chump because I happen to know you're not from Chumphon!

Sell the house and other assets, give her a "more than fair"  cut, take the rest and find a farang woman.

    Kids?  God help you!

    Now get some sleep!

Nobody's message will get any worse than this! -- this means things can only get better!    :D  :D

Ever heard of TRUST or LOVE Harmonica, your last post was brilliant and you are right no post could be worse than this. :o

I am sure you have heard the phrase "Dont risk what you can't afford to loose" Well :D

  17. Hi ThaiPauly,

This is my No#1 posting. Finally I get my chance to post.

    1. Arrange for your wife to train there for a few days. You must also sit around there to observe with pen and paper ready. Make sure you choose a quiet day and a busy day so you can get an average picture of the business. Your purpose is to:

    i. gauge the business volume

ii. while you sit around, think of the business and what could go wrong, future plan,  customer complaints and how you could improve. And your wife gets a feel of the business.

    2. The 1st step is to determine the business viability. Do a cashflow projection ie. your cash inflow must cover your cash outflow including taxes. You must mark up your expenses by 10% incase you get too optimistic with your projection.

    3. What are the additional capital investment you need to put in when you take over like new equipment, furniture & fittings. List them down and work out the cost.

    4. From #2, you know your monthly cash outflow. Multiply this monthly figure by 6. This is your working capital reserve for 6 months which means you can still keep the busines going for at least 6 months even if you get zero income.

    5. Add all the 3 cost together ie the purchase price + additional set up cost + 6 months working capital. Are you happy with this amount of cash you need to invest in this business? If yes, and your net cash flow projection is positive, then you are 80% home.

    6. Now that you have decided to do the business and you know your maximum investment you are prepared to put into this business. Should you later need to put in more money just to maintain the same business volume, then you need to review and maybe liquidate because your business plan is not working. That itself is another story.

    7. Next step is to tie up the legality ie the transfer of ownership. Dont buy over her company. You will be liable for all her company's debts and obligations. Register your own company or business and start with guaranteed zero debts and you dont have to worry about her unpaid bills.

    8. The other matters on transfer of ownership:

      a. Furniture and equipment -make sure they have been fully paid. See original  receipts and keep them.

    b. stock of food and beverage -same as above.

    c. lease -ok as you are dealing with landlord directly.

    d. licence -you need to make new application under your own company.

    e. staff -make sure they have been paid

    f. Find out what are the regulatory requiments. You need to take care of them.

    9. You must not think of this business as a hobby as it will fail. Every business is serious business and need 110% of your attention.  Your creative input is needed like monthly review of your business and make changes where necessary. You can leave the operation part to your wife but the management part needs you.

I think that all for time being. Good luck and if you need any help working out the financials, do PM me. (I am not quite sure what PM me means)

Bottom line -you are there on the ground, you know what you see and guide yourself with these information and your decision should be better than any of us and remember, nothing is 100% sure. GO WITH YOUR GUT FEELING.

    Sagit911

A very impressive and informative first post Sagit911, I have taken everything you have said on board.

We are starting a new company in my Wife's name.

We are seeing a Solicitor this afternoon so he will be able to fill us in with everything we need to know, (that I dont know already fro what I have read on this thread.

This Woman's take on it seems to be-"If you don't trust me then don't buy it" I cant do business like that, I dont expect to come out of this with her being a freind, I hated the Guy I sold my business to, I am just trying to be a little bit more like him :o

    Cheers
