  1. re: panicking

The four women, actually three girls and woman manager, who served me at McD's just now in the heart of BKK were absolutely laughing, giggling, loving life and being Thai (i.e., talking about food).

I guess they didn't get or read the memo where there were supposed to be hiding in the corner.

What a croc articles like this are.

So you saw some employees in McD laughing. Gosh, sounds pretty scientific. Stop the presses. Way to get out in the streets with the people in their natural environment (which is in a McD....apparently).

  2. Lots of smog. Yea so beautiful. Love the look of smog and sunset. Here's looking forward to many more smoggy sunsets. And hey did anyone see Koh Larn yesterday? Neither did I. The blue haze was so beautiful. Could not tell where the ocean ended and the sky began. Love all that smoggy haze.

  3. Try opening a burger stall selling 500 baht burgers and get ready to eat your own burgers. Paying more for quality, yes. 500 baht more? No.

    How does that equate ?

Selling one at 500b is going to be more profitable than 10 for free.

And selling 10 for 100 baht is going to be more profitable than one at 500b......Sigh....you people and your stupid arguments make this far too easycool.gif

  4. Ok, just checked and the burger at the Mariott Garden Cafe is about 300baht after service charge. The waitress said it's Austrailan beef. So not as bad as I thought it would be but certainly no bargain.

Do you ever eat any of the food you talk about? Verdict? Excellent? Terrible?

Sure, send me some money and I will gladly go around to these places and eat the food for you. Or your could...you know, go there yourself and give people this information. Or do you just like to snipe from the bushes?

  6. The Burger at the Marriott Hotel is by far the best I've had in Thailand.

They have an awesome little bar/restaurant.

Sit on the deck and have a view of the beautiful gardens and pool.

    Nice.

Mariott Hotell......will have to give it a try...if the price is not too high.

Oy Vey. Yea, let's go for a nice inexpensive burger at the Mariott. I'm gonna go there and find out what this burger costs just for a laugh. Then after I post it I will watch as the shills try tell me you can get the same thing at Just Burger or wherever. cool.gifcool.gifcool.gif

    You people are hilarous.

Just go to Oz burger corner of Buakao & Diana. Austrailian Beef, reasonable price. Done! But of course don't expect the same as the 500baht hard rock burger or Mariott which I suspect is similar quality/price.

  7. ...snip....

Then move to Bkk. Speaking of reading comprehension.....read my post again. Between the lines. Something I pointed out many here seem to have trouble with and you just proved it.

Nah, Bangkok is overrated and as I stated - between the lines - has a lot of junk food and culture just like Pattaya. You seem to not want to delve deeper into the issues but view any response as a direct challenge. Interesting.

'Interesting'.....lol. Yea, clearly a "direct challenge'.....bahahah. Thanks for the laugh. Too funnylaugh.gif

  8. Surely they have reverse osmosis places around where you can get a jug filled yes? If so nothing to worry about. Of course water out of the tap around Pattaya is just fine too although most not used to doing that probably don't want to take the chance.

Gotta hand it to asians, if it's one thing they are good at it's herd mentality. In this case it translates into hoarding, panic buying etc.

Want to see herd mentality and panic buying try Houston just before a Hurricane is due, the worrying thing with the septics though, is the gun ammunition was going as quick as the water.

That's because Americans think all problems can be solved with a gun.whistling.gif

  9. Didn't know Monday was a holiday. Googling I see it's Chulalongkorn Day (observed on Monday because it fell on a Sunday). Is it one of those where they gotta pretend they are not serving alcohol and/or bars gotta pretend they are closed by turning off the lights?

  11. Today (a sunday) beach rd and 2nd rd were a parking lot from North Pattaya rd to south pattaya rd. In Jomtien it was bumper to bumper as well. Eventually one way traffic controls were put in to ease congestion which made it a royal pain to get from Naklua to beach rd and then from Central Pattaya rd to Soi Buakao. Both those routes were blocked. So I had to go up n pattaya road a ways...make a uturn then go down beach up central which was blocked at 2nd rd so then had to go down 2nd rd a ways and 2 lefts to get to central then left to buakao was blocked so again had to go down a ways and do a u turn. A royal pain.

Perhaps everyone getting out of Bkk instead of going back like they usually do on Sunday?

  12. All the mains tap water downtown is drinkable, supposedly, if you draw it directly from the main supply. Most of the problems here arise from the use of tanks in many residences and other buildings, especially above the ground floor. Anyone who drinks water that has been in a tank here is out of his mind.

I go for the machines because they are always connected directly to the main water supply with no intervening tanks, so I dont have to think about what happens in between. 1B/litre is not excessive for filter/UV treatment and I dont mind paying it.

Why are they out of their minds?

  13. This thread should be renamed...."Best burger in Pattaya and that is why the place went out of business".....Which is my whole point. You cannot get the quality without the price going up and nobody stays in business doing that unless you are a mega chain like Burger King....who's food (and I use that term very loosely) barely passes the legal definition of food btw.

Nobody doubts that the price will go up. What they may - and should - doubt is whether the Cheap Charlies of Pattaya are willing to pay for it. In Phuket , Chiang Mai, Pnom Penn and Singapore the expat community is more sophisticated and willing to pay, within reason, a bit more for a better burger. Sadly the perception is that most Russians and beer drinkers who are here don't care a fig about food(and even in Bangkok I am amazed at how poor western food often is).

Hello, all the burger joints pointed out in this post that have gone out of business. I don't know how much more evidence you need. But at this point if you can't read between the lines you are not interested in the truth. Still convinced you can get your Grade A American beef top of the line burger in Thailand for 50baht or whatever. Like trying to argue with a dish cloth cool.gif

Sounds like you failed reading comprehension in school. Who said anything about 50 Baht.? Just saying reasonable quality for a fair price. My point was simply that the standards of Pattaya are low, even compared to other parts of Thailand..

  14. Hmmm,

Funny, I was looking for San Miguel at a few supermarkets and corner stores yesterday and couldn't find any. At least not in the big bottles. Also could not get french fries and the spicy chicken at Sizzler in Central a couple days ago. Come to think of it I couldn't find big bottles of water in 2 separate 7/11's yesterday. Never occurred to me that all those incidents were related to the flooding until I read this thread. Just shows how much we take some things for granted until we can't get it.

  15. ES1 - It was me that started both Just Burger and del-izza threads - and I am defitinitely not a guy. If you look even further I have written about quite a few places in the area. Isn't that what a forum is about? Letting people know the good, the bad and the ugly?

I have been known to have a drink with Sean from del-izza and Justin from Just Burgers - does that make me biased?

Urrrum....yea it does. Btw, after all the back and forth where it is what the place looks like how to find it can't find it yada yada blah blah I was the only one that bothered to spend 30seconds taking a picture of the places and posting it. Not asking for a medal but to me....that is usable intel compared to all the other wasted posts there.

  17. Not all of the images have been PR coups, however -- one picture of her wearing rubber boots made by the Burberry luxury brand sparked a flurry of Internet chatter, not all of it favourable.

    CNN:

While out and about assessing the situation in the flood-hit provinces, she has been snapped wearing rubber boots by luxury brand Burberry, which set Thai social media networks abuzz on Monday. (For photos of the fashion-forward PM in her boots, visit her Facebook page.)

    Read more:

    public Facebook page photo:

The boots retail for about US$225 in the United States

    .

And the motive for your petty comment is what? Did you pay for the boots? How do you know she hadn't the boots on hand? If she wants to buy a pair of boots that she likes, good for her. So what if they are $225? My field boots were far more expensive. What's your point? Are you jealous or what?

Obviously, you don't associate with Thai women of means. Dressing well is part of the local culture. Even Thais of modest means will try to be as fashionable as possible. My friend's sister was busy doing her nails before leaving her apartment for safety and the girl is a university student.

'Thai women of means'. What happened to all the usual Leftist crap? You are a poseur as well as a complete idiot.

More of the 'usual' rightist/red shirt defender crap
