  1. "The Thai elite...do not like farangs."

    minor correction .

basically ALL thais , not just the "elite" , don't like farang (or indians , arabs , west nigerians , ect.)

the good thing is it doesn't really matter if ur liked or not .

as long as you have (the) money

And as long as you have money you will be able to come to Thailand and spend it. One way or another.

  2. Part of the Thai female paradox - part image. Part modesty.

The thing I notice is most of the women in the media and in advertisements are white skinned. No wonder all the issan girls want to wear that whitening creme. I don't think it's healthy for the country to give the majority of the people inferiority complexes. But then again the west does it all the time by using unrealistically thin women. That's just what people want to see I guess. Same with the short skirt thing.

  3. What a load of <deleted>.

I go on holiday to sit on beaches and enjoy the fact that i am away from cold Europe. I bring my Western attitude with me and i "get it". Getting it does not mean that i accept it. But who gives a dam_n i am on my beach. Far away from my problems at home.

I am on holiday - so i am allowed to go to bars, discos, go go's if i want. I worked and paid for my holiday, just like you. I don't like the fact that wassishame says that western women are not allowed in these establishments.

What do i do? sit on the beach all day getting nice and brown, eat a nice meal and then i am sent to my room to watch tv? Whilst Macho Man goes out on the prowl??

Us ladies also like to have a good time... I do a good shimmy.

    You go girl.

'Macho Man'.......hmmmmmm interesting choice of words. Smells like resentment. Care to elaborate?

  4. Well, I never had a problem meeting farang men whilst on holiday and having a laugh with them. And perhaps a bit of romance on occasion!!

And I went to bars, and discos and go go's too!!

There are some farang ladies that are tolerable because they do not bring a western attitude with them to Thailand and accept the differences here.

Quite certain you are about the only one I see posting here who seems to 'get' it. Literally, figuratively etc. Can't say I have met any of these tolerable ones but never tried and don't hang out where ever it is they do.

  5. ES1, I never mentioned it being strange to post on a message board. Read my post again & try to keep some semblance of relevancy to my post.

Anyway, does anyone else find the term "hitting on" offensive?

    SC

Out of all the things the easily offended can choose to be offended about and you pick that.....lol! There are literally hundreds of things to be offended about in Thailand if one were so inclined to not accept the way things work here. If you actually live in Thailand how do you even get out of bed in the morning without being offended to death?

In fact I am quite certain you do not live in Thailand otherwise you would have never come up with that doosy!

  6. The men who stumble socially back home, stumble even more dramatically here. But here they can build their own legend in their mind and rarely have it challenged. Unless of course they attempt socialization with girls of their own social status and culture. Hence the negativity.

"Rarely Challenged".....lol! I have Thai girls say sheit to me that nobody at home would ever say. Not even family. I won't go into details but let's just say they can be BRUTALLY honest....about EVERYTHING! And they can be little beotches in their own thai way sometimes so there is NEVER any shortage of challenges.....LOL!

Rarely Challenged......now THAT is funny. What Thailand are YOU experiencing??? One where you do NOT interact with Thais very much I suspect. No worries, I know this post was probably just your hate showing through so of course you lash out with these ridiculous hypotheses that have no basis in reality.

  7. I doubt anyone would classify me as desperate. Or that men are uninterested in me. Where I do have difficulty is finding a man I am interested in. The pool of interesting, intelligent and attractive men is really rather small.

Still looking for that Rock Star/Scientist/Austronaut/Pro Athlete eh? Plenty of those around. You are just not looking hard enough.

  8. Time to let go of the hate ES1, for someone who claims to have no thought of farang women in thailand you (and of course, your friends, ah-hem) certainly have put a lot of opinion on what they should or shouldn't do or where they should or shouldn't be. strange behavior that for people who claim to be so indifferent ;)

Never mind though, I'm sure the thai gals are falling over themselves for you. :)

Yea, strange behaviour posting on a messageboard. I'm sure all the posters here will agree with that.

  9. No implication whatsoever, your "ugly truth" happens to be your own. Good manners and civility are required. If you find that difficult to follow then I suggest you read the forum only since forum rules do require it. Cheers.

"your ugly truth".....? Is there some other truth?

I don't really see why you need to come on here baiting people. Perhaps you need the practice - though I thought you were a master...

The "General" forum is where you'll get a better response to your baiting, I think; people here generally have a different sense of humour that doesn't really respond well to baiting.

    SC

So the gods honest truth is called 'baiting'. Ok.....duly noted!

  10. To the OP,

The perception amongst many farang males in Thailand is that farang females in Thailand are easy and desperate because most of the other farang males are not interested in them. I hope you do not find this insulting. For the most part, I think women would be better off avoiding questioning or wanting to know about what gets talked about in the male locker room because it is usually juvenile and chauvinistic. But, you asked, so I gave you a truthful answer.

100% WRONG! I seriously doubt you are a male with those undertones. if you are I have to question other things which I could care less about so won't go into it.

    "Juvenile and chauvinistic". Do tell?

I will tell you what me and my buddies say about farangettes in Thailand........NOTHING! About the only thing we say is "I wish they would all just go back to wherever they came from, we don't want or need them here". We don't want to see them in the GoGo's (why the heck do they go in there btw?), we don't want to see them in the Disco's, we don't want to see them in the restaurants, we don't want them in Thailand.....full stop!

    And THAT is the truth....100%!

However, after seeing nothing but Thai girls who mostly look similar the Farang women stand out as different which I tried to explain but it appears people do not want to hear the truth. I was simply answering the OP's question. My buddies and I CERTAINLY do not see farang females and easy and desperate. We see them walking around with the same attitudes that we left the western world to get away from. Every time we see them they remind us of that. Once again, that is the gods honest truth.

So 100% wrong on all counts Chunky1.

  12. I use a north american 3G HSPA phone in Thailand but only in GSM mode. It does support 850/1900 HSPA so it will work on any provider that switches on HSPA on those frequencies.

Your comment above really buries the fact that Thailand appears to be heading toward two different national HSPA mobile data networks, the CAT/True one on the 850 Mhz 3G band, and the TOT/IMobile one on the 2100 Mhz 3G band...

It's easy to buy 3G phones abroad that offer either 850/1900 HSPA or 900/2100 HSPA bands (apart from what they offer on the regular GSM-voice bands)... It's much less easy to find tri or quad band 3G phones that cover both the 850 and 2100 Mhz 3G bands to ensure the broadest 3G coverage options in Thailand.

Which is more or less what I said.

  13. Sounds like she has not adapted to the western culture. Learning to read english would have been a good first step. Even then Thais tend not to adapt well since their culture is so unique. More often then not they end up going back to Thailand. Sounds like you are in quite a pickle. Could she not go back to Thailand with your son? You probably can't stomach the idea of that but you don't seem to have a lot of options here. She would have the support of her family in Thailand who would help raise the child.

  14. If one were to believe many of our regular posters, it is a complete figment of your imagination, so, sorry to tell you ihunniebee. Its utterly impossible. You should seek therapy for these delusions of yours. At least, if one were to believe many Thaivisa men, that is. ;)

    Envy? :whistling:

Got me in one james, fat old hippie feminazis like myself don't get hit on at all. :whistling:

There are deviants everywhere these days ........ just treat em like you would back home.

Guy's hitting on women are considered deviant? Ok whatever.

To answer the OP's question from a guys perspective. We are just looking for some strange! Back in the US you are not strange. Just more of the same. But in Thailand Farang women definitely are!

When you turn them down they will console themselves with some Thai girl that is probably younger and probably much sweeter and more feminine (as Thai women tend to be compared to Farang women) than you...being the 'deviant' creatures us farang guys are.

  15. It appears to be the HSPA will be on 850MHz. My HTC Desire supports HSPA on 900/2100 MHz. :( Wonder what the percentage of phones in Thailand support HSPA on 850MHz?

LOL.... just like democracy 'Thai-style' is a flawed and fundamentally corrupt concept, it would appear that 3G will also be a similarly flawed and fundamentally corrupt 'Thai-style' abomination with only vested interests making money. Anyone hoping to independently leverage their investments in smart phone technology will be taking a big dry one up the arse. Again!

Wasn't 850 one of the spectrum of choice for GSM? Can GSM and HSPA happily co-exist in the same spectrum?

Most 3G phones now a days are Quad Band GSM and dual band HSPA. If you bring a 3G phone from another country you will need to make sure it uses the proper bands of HSPA. In the US for example, AT&T uses 850/1900 and T-mobile uses 1700/2100.

So if they are using 850 in Thailand an unlocked At&t 3G phone should work. You can also use these phones on any of the GSM providers since they all support quad band GSM.

I use a north american 3G HSPA phone in Thailand but only in GSM mode. It does support 850/1900 HSPA so it will work on any provider that switches on HSPA on those frequencies.

  16. Could some expert telecom/IT person explain in lay terms what, if any, affect all this will have on me currently using CAT CDMA as my only internet service provider?

No effect. The 2 networks run in parallel using the same towers and antennas and they won't phase out CDMA for years.

  17. Just in time.... every other country is moving to 4g now.

Not really. They announce things but it's mostly propaganda. In the US they have been annoucing that 4G is less than a year away for the last 5 years. Sprint is the only one with a live network in several cities and they are still no where near full coverage across the country.

  18. Why would anybody want to get out of there car and walk on the skywalk and breath in all those hazardous vehicle emissions, they should spend money on actually cleaning the city, and a lick of paint won't go a miss either. Bangkok is discusting !!! :bah:

Please tell me you're being deliberately ironic! Would getting people out of their cars not make the situation far better?

Yes but I can guarantee you that building skywalks above congested streets will NOT do that. It just creates an easier way for pedestrians to poison themselves.

  19. Thanks, I saw that website. Six is likely when something happens, but the timetable link doesn't work! I did call SRT and they couldn't really handle the complexity of the question as to whether or not that means the station opens at 6 and the first train leaves at 6:15 or if the first train actually leaves the station at 6....... The fine young man I spoke with insisted that the station doors open at exactly 6 and the first train leaves for the airport at exactly 6 and nothing I said was going to move him from the certainty of his facts :D

    TiT

  20. Thanks alot for your kind information. What about the travelling time? Will there be any major traffic jam? Thank you once again!!

Or if you are the adventurous type, or into saving the environment or wanting to save money, go to the bottom level at the airport and get the Cityline train (not the Airport Express - there are two different walkways with the name CityLine or Airport Express marked on them). Get a ticket at the amzingly discounted price of 15 baht (50 US cents) to Makkasan and get a taxi from there (well marked taxi rank) for about 80 baht. Journey time 40-55 minutes. Have done it with heavy roller luggage, not a problem.

I've done this trip myself at least 4 times in the last 3 months - and the even cheaper variant via Phayathai and the BTS system, which I do not recommend for newbies.

It's a very new quick elevated light rail link which is why most of the posters above are stuck in the road option past (they are probably non-Europeans too!)

Why the hel_l would you go through all that trouble, to save 200 baht? A taxi to sukhumvit and use of the tollway is 400 thb at max. jeez.

Urrum, because if it rains or it's rush hour or it's before a weekend or it's a holiday or..or..or.....you could have a very long frustrating trip sitting in the taxi for hours. This is Bkk after all.....the gridlock city.

And of course it's much cheaper and safer and more convenient and nobody is going to scam you.

  21. From VM you are very close to the entrance to the tollway and a straight-shot to SBIA, so a taxi seems like a much better option? Or even the 551 bus? (The mini-vans are not a viable option given the variable length wait-times and location south of the BTS station.) Given the OP's 12:00 Noon arrival at VM, a taxi will have you at the airport by 12:40 PM, while the journey via the BTS and SARL will take a lot longer given the long walks, ticket purchasing, train wait-times. FWIW both the Silom and Sukhumvit BTS lines have been experiencing long intervals over the past week, in some cases up to 20 minutes (the new signalling systems is really bad IMO, even when working, as the train control is crazy variable), leading to packed platforms and trains, so getting on a BTS train at VM with luggage may be challenging. Additionally, and not specific to the OP's inquiry, I have seen MRT (subway) security pulling aside travelers with luggage and having them open everything up, adding to a potential delay.

Long walks? It's about a minute from the BTS station to the ARL concourse.

Ticket purchasing? Maybe another minute. It's never taken me more than that.

Train wait times? This is a valid point but you know even if you were really unlucky it won't be longer than 15 minutes.

Personally if I need to know I'll be there by a certain time I'd take the train. The OP is pushing it as it is because Air Asia has some horrendous check-in queues. Why risk a taxi with all the variables that entails? By your reckoning (40 minues in a cab) you may save five or ten minutes if you were really unlucky on the train timings and the traffic was good, but you could lose so much more.

I now try to NEVER deal with BKK traffic. Only use MRT/BTS and if my destination is not close to a station or a short taxi ride away I won't go unless I have to. I am sick and tired of spending half my life sitting in Taxi's/busses in bkk gridlock. Going to/from Pattaya I now take the train to/from the airport and take a bus from there. No more sitting in bkk traffic on the Ekamai/Pattaya bus which sometimes adds an hour or more to the trip depending on how bad the gridlock. Busses between the airport/Pattaya are about 100baht +45baht for city link train so it's only 25baht more than Ekamai/Pattaya bus and no possibility of having to deal with bkk gridlock.

  22. BTW, can someone confirm, whether one can take the airport rail from the Ramkhamhaeng station to Suvarnabhumi and back, or not? It would be just more convenient for me than travelling to Phyathai station.

The slow train stops there, but the airport express doesn't.

Don't worry too much about that, it's not much slower, and in any case you could only get the "slow train" from Phyathai anyway as the express doesn't go there.

I've been on the city and express. The express is twice as fast and has more comfortable seats. Worth the extra 105baht IMHO if Makassan station works for ya since that is the only place the express stops. That station is still a work in progress. Little to no signage and the place is little more than a hollow shell right now. Walking to Petchburi MRT isn't too bad (once you figure out what direction...ie no signage) unless you have a lot of luggage. Also, most people with luggage seem to get checked at the metal detectors on entering the MRT stations so it's not such a great option because of the hassle factor. Better to take a Taxi to/from Makassan if you have luggage IMHO.

The trains are quite fast and smooth. The door slamming is kind of annoying though. You would think they could dampen that down. Makassan is huge and obviously designed to be a full blown alternative to airport check in. I figure once the interational airlines start using Makassan and they get a proper pedestrian link to the MRT station the express line will get much busier. Just makes too much sense not to work and has been proven to work in other cities.
