  1. I was stopped by the Polis a few days ago and given a 7 day ticket for not having my bike license on me (at all) and told i need to go to the Police station to pay a fine. Where is the Police station in Ban Chang? Is it that little building opposite the 7/11 at the Crossroads/traffic light? That's the only place i see any police hanging about. Oh and what if i forget to pay this fine after 7 days? Do they follow it up?

  2. Are you by chance in one of the houses right down by the beach at Payoon?

We use to live in one and lasted 6 months. Quite a few of the ones down at the front are rented on a daily/weekly basis. I've seen two bus loads of folk in one house at a weekend :intheclub::w00t::crazy:

Not a thing you can do about it either.

Some good bargins to be found just back from the beach.

    It's at moobaan talaydao

    Near the beach.

No problem i can handle busloads of folk...i'm moving from Pattaya so not a stranger to that.

  3. AYE We are all doomed Captain Mainwaring.......

I find it bizzare that two Buddhist countries would wage war over an old ruined Wat.

Thailand has endless campaigns to collect money and make merit and build loads of new ones.

I just hope the Baht takes a dive if it all escalates....but based on recent past political mayhem, sabre rattling, coups, riots, death and destruction it will probably get a lot stronger.....

NOOOOO!!! I am being paid in Thai Baht so that would not be good. I prefer the latter. :whistling:

  4. the housing estate that i live in has about 15 little yelping mutts that bark constantly. I am moving out of the estate soon thankfully....between they noisy wee fckers and the god-awful state of Thappraya road, i have to say that i do not have one good word to say about living there. I think poisoning dogs is not the way forward...however my friend has one powerful mother of a crossbow.:whistling:

  5. .....and adding an egg yolk (not fried) into the mashed tatties makes them go really fluffy if you like them that way!

BTW while on the subject of utensils...i'm looking for a decent steel cheese grater...i have a plastic one which is almost completely useless.

    Macro i guess..

  6. I have spent hours on Jomtien beach, pollution and litter, Rubbish, its a nice area and plenty of room, the climate alone is well worth being in Pattaya/Jomtien, what we Brits winge about is incredible.

Spending 'hours' on Jomtien beach is hardly giving you the experience of actually living there. The OP is talking about living in Jomtien...not sunbathing for 1 day. :whistling:

  7. Like everywhere else in this world they have their pro's and con's, but unfortunately after only 5 months of me living here the con's out-weigh the pro's by far. But then i get bored and pissed off with people and places pretty quickly. The Rudeness of the Russians...the sliminess of the Bar girls..and the absolute utter shit that i listen to coming from babbling old English expats who have lived here for years and know EVERYTHING about 'Thailand' just because they have short-timed all the girls on soi 6 - just does my nut in.

I dream about living up in Isaan, away from all that beach road tourist <deleted>.

So, how long do you want to swap residences for and what sort of pile do you have round the back of Theprashit... sorry Thappraya Road?

I have 4 bedrooms in Udon, just outside the Mitrapharp (ring-road) with aircon, UBC and 3BB internet. Also comes with 2 stepdaughters, 1 mum-in-law, a car port, a gazebo, a one-eyed shi-tzu and a wobbly poodle. Oh yes, there's some of father-in-laws more treasured chooks corralled round the back (he stays out on the swamp teaching the pigs to swim). It's 20 minutes tops from the airport and about 15 mins from downtown. There's a street with one decent pub and a dozen piss-poor bars in a cowshed. The local expats don't acknowledge me because at 55, I am just another young whippersnapper who knows farkall 'cept the price of a soapy in Pattaya (how much are they by the way the odd one will ask conspiratorially when one on one). My boy needs to get his head straightened out in a half decent school and way from lao-speak! And I need something with a "happy ending".

So if your pad can match my digs, maybe we can do swap, if just to see what living on the REAL dark side really feels like.

PS. I can confirm that freerange nomyai's have been seen in the mall in Udon.

Well my house is really nice it's only the road outside that spoils it......I would swap any-day without the added extra of course!!

I worked up in Udon for a week and i really like the area...Korat also is lovely, i spent a few months living there. I think just being away from Pattaya would be great again - unfortunately i work in Sattahip so the furthest i can move away ain't that far away.

Sorry to admit but i love the freereange nomyai's...the lao-speak...the cow-shed bars....HAPPY DAYS!!

  8. why would anyone not want to live in Jomtien, Pattaya or vicinity?

40,000THB can put a rack on an isaan bird.....FWOAR.

  10. Found an amazing house close to Phala beach.....Fingers crossed i'll be in there by March.

Hope it works out for you, phala beach is my local, very good there , but don't tell everyone

    Cheers..

Oh yes, and i know we need to keep this area as one of Thailand's best kept secrets

  12. Another suggestion if you don't readily find any takers: with 15K x 4 months that's 60K baht. You could very likely spend less by buying one second hand, and then selling it back (possibly to the same dealer) for the price that you paid minus 30-40K or so. (Or 25K if very lucky, that would be the minimum a dealer would want to make on a sale).

Given that it's 4 months, you don't need to bother with transferring ownership. That means the second hand car won't turn into third hand, and it saves cost and hassle. You would of course need to make sure that you retain the ownership transfer papers, which are needed by whoever then buys the vehicle, or by the dealer who wants to sell it on.

So in short, if you buy a good condition Toyota Hilux Mighty-X for 200K or so then you will almost certainly drop less than 60K on it over 4 months (or 1-2 years, even). ( When in doubt then do a test drive, take it to another dealer and ask what he'd give for it. ;) )

Hmm yes i can certainly see the logic in that however, i find it easier to rent as it's easy to see an ad - call, agree, sign papers and drive away instead of having to look around dealerships - deal with a parasite who'll try and get more than his moneys worth out of me..fork out cash for what could be a bucket of shit.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'll try going down the rental route first.

  13. LOL. :)

(And you even visit the Pattaya forum and everything..! ;) )

Let me put it this way: When you meet another foreigner, and the guy stares right through you without a nod, smile or saying 'hi', then you're still in Pattaya.

Haaa..and strange as it may sound but that is what i enjoy most about the Tambol/Amphur - not having to socialize with tourists.

  14. Have a look on the notice boards at the following stores.

    Friendship Supermarket, Pattaya south

    Foodland, Pattaya Klang

    Carrefour, Pattaya Klang

    Foodmart, Thappraya road

Also try the Pattaya people and Pattaya Mail newspaper's.

Well that's me had a look but found very little....i'll keep looking, thanks.

  15. Jomtien is 4 kms from Pattaya, give or take a few hundred meters depending on where you prefer to start counting.

They are the same place. Why does it even matter if you live closer to Jomtien or closere to Pattaya?

    Same same.

Maybe once you get to Sri Racha or Sattahip will I accept a story of 'not living in Pattaya'. But anywhere in between those places and you live in Pattaya.

Who cares what you accept, who are you? the area police?????

LOL. You're having a good start of the week aintcha. :P I think you know what I meant. If not, that's just fine too.

I live on Thappraya road and my postal address does not read pattaya nor jomtien...I don't class my self as living in Pattaya or Jomtien. I class myself as an inhabitant of the Thappraya slum road, where even the nicest housing area can be spoiled by the constant roadworks/busy traffic/absolute ball-ache to go anywhere south due to the BMX track of a road you must negotiate, and nowhere north because Pattaya is a toilet.

When you feel better, you may want to visit Wikipedia and search for "Pattaya", or the Pattaya-Chonburi metropolitan area. Pattaya (incl. Jomtien and a bunch of other hamlets) is of course a self-governing municipal area, and as such does not follow the typical amphur - tambon model. And guess what, Thappraya Rd is smack bang in the middle of it. ;)

Great...just when my day couldn't get any worse, i find out i live in Pattaya.

  16. I think your body is trying to tell yourself something! STOP DRINKING. At least for a while or cut down on the amount by at least half. A lot of posters on here seem to be telling you the same thing.

I used to drink far too much, now I'm almost tea total. I have the occasional blow but thats it. The last time I went out in Pattaya, I started on Singha had a couple and went on coke or OJ. Still had a great night and was able to drive home. I actually enjoy not drinking now. I hate hangovers in the morning.

    All the best

    Pat

I hope it's while your drunk and it's completely consensual.

Yes..i regret moving here, and yes i am looking for another area not far from where i work (thus the reason for moving here in the first place) but away from THAT area.

Oops forgot to mention good points..

Restaurants on Jomtien beach are very very good and there are so many to choose from......

    errrrr....

    errrr.....

    That's it.

  18. Try having a bite to eat before, during and/or after binging.....and a pint of water before you go to sleep, always works for me..

Oh and if you do feel shit the next morning get a can of Irn Bru doon the hatch - and please let me know if you can find Irn Bru in Thailand as I've been searching for the last 2 years without luck.
