  1. Thanks guys for the fast service. Mr Moo is the one I'm looking for.

    Arthur

It was I who recomended him on the Previous post, I can tell you he is superb, he knows my bikes well, CBR 900 Blade, Dragstar and he restored my show bike, top quality guy, and he likes a few beers, i was so pleased at the work he did for me and the costing i got him a case of beer, cannot say that about many thai Motorcycle mechanics in Thailand, got a Ferrang interested in my V-max, not you by any chance.

I only came by Moo through my Mate, Khundan, superb guy, thats if you can keep up with him :),

All the best and say Howdy to Moo, Ian.

Not been on T.Visa for a while, but still kickin.

  2. This is the same pond plant that garden centres in the UK charge a fortune for, it is normally crimped at the botton with a peice of lead, and just thrown in the pond, it is supposed to keep water clear and give out oxygen, i think this is good if you keep it under control.

  3. If i can i always try to fly Thai, as Spongeman says, never any delays, Thai air crew are good with kids and are polite and friendly, my wife had a miscarriage on one of there flights, the staff were superb, may have to sit on the runway for about half hour at the worst airport in the world, as no gate ready, this has been the case a few times, London Heathrow. i am not really bothered about screens in the back of seats. as got my laptop.

  4. There is a lady driving instructor in Buriram, as my wife used her about 5 years ago, when the Mrs comes in the office i will ask her if she still has details. if this is for a thai learning to drive.

if you have a western licence, the last post is correct.

Ok I found these. Still, crap photo's.Basically what I have is the same amount of land the other side of the house. To the left of the house is the biggest patch, maybe 1-1.5 rai.I paid 200,000 for this with the house included.Hoping after all is finished its gonna cost no more than 700,000 total.

Fair play, you had a good deal there, nice one, the tiled roof looks good, best of luck, keep the pics rolling.

  6. I am looking for some place that has good furniture. Do I have to drive to Bangkok? I have not found anyplace in Surin, does Khorat or Buriram have any, Looking for a nice leather sofa, bedroom set, mattresses, dining table and chairs.

Hardly local, but always worth a visit to Phrae, well over a Km each side of the main highway selling loads of teak. Slung what I could in the back of the pickup, they posted the rest to me! One each, a two & three door solid teak wardobe, 32,000b the pair, 1,500b postage, saving me the 6,000b tax on them. Also Hang Dong near Cm, but they've become very pricey recently. And no, not from Chiang mai but Udon, well worth the trip, 7yrs ago now and not even a sticky door!

As i say in a previous post, Hang Dong, Chaing mai was cheap and good quality stuff, i was shipping 1, 40 foot container a month when things were good, stopped doing it about 5 to 6 years ago, bet they are struggling up there these days with the exchange rate as it is.

I still have 150 cartwheels stored in Buriram.

  7. Hi Guys,

Not for me, not split up from the Mrs, looking for a nice condo or Bungalow to rent Jan, Feb, March 2010, for some good freinds of mine, sorry but not in Pattaya, they would like Phuket, Cha am, Hua Hin, Chaing mai, any of these would be good, please postmark me or send us an e-mail with pics prices etc, i can then forward it on.

email removed per forum rules please PM poster

    Thanks Guys

  8. :D The word in the remaining bars open in Buriram is that Magnus a swedish guy who used to have a small bar near the night bazaar is going to open up SAWADEE KHRAP in the very near future :)

Tidy, no Magnus well, nice guy. hope he does ok.

Tidy KNOW magnus well, nice guy, hope he does ok.

Sorry about the double post, it is the radnorshire in me boy,

  10. 3 years ago we planted 6000 saplings they are now about 3 metres tall, we were thinking of planting more this year, my brother in law told us forget it, as everyone got on the band wagon, now the price has gone out of them and people have a job to sell.

  11. Depends what you looking for, i used to ship the Rosewood furniture from bangers, and other teak stuff from chaing mai, han dong to the UK, mind you i bought at trade, as was filling 40 footers at the time, but the leather stuff is not badley priced, i agree with you MJP, you can buy nice teak stuff around Roi et and buriram, have a look at the street markets they lay on some days, you will find nice stuff there at good prices.

  12. Went there today, the corner as you turn to the FC and bus station. Brought some items, but still wanting a nice leather sofa, will check Buriram and Korat, if not there it will be Bangkok.

    Thanks for all the help.

If trying Bangers, go to MBK, some amazing furniture there, cheap to mega bucks, some really nice leather sofas, no crap

  13. hi thanks for the pic, did they use wood on the top of the house, or was it that composite stuff that is being used every were now ? cheers.

    Micky,

All built of teak, mostly reclaimed teak planed down, with wood windows etc, they have made a nice job of it, as a thai family house a big open space upstairs, i am in bilighty at the mo, otherwise i would of taken an up to date pic for you.

If you were to build look for a demolished wood house and buy the reclaimed teak. maybe cheaper.

When you consider the prices in Thailand, it sound crazy, as you can build a nice thai house finished, stained + painted for 500k, and i have just paid 70,000 for paint to paint my place and the labour 25,000 baht.

  14. 3rd PIcture across, with concrete living quaters underneath, 500k max, in our village two just been built each on just under 1 rai, the land is worth 500 k per rai, and the build another 500k, so with land and house a million baht, it is do with location, location, our village is 4 Kms out of Buriram on the Surin Road, i remember when we could buy land in the village for 30,000 per rai, 12 years ago, boy, have times changed.

    post-9688-1242234797_thumb.jpg

This is one of them just built by my place, this is now finished and a total cost of 490,000 baht, mind you this is built for a thai family with no mod cons. but very big inside, bit sorry to see the old thai house that was there before demolished, it was over 100 years old. they are all going slowly, which is a pity.

  15. It has followed the others open sometimes but more often than not it is CLOSED.

Thought that would happen, the guy Richard, it was his first time to Thailand and opened a bar :) , for his mate to run.

    maybe another white elephant.

I hear that paddy has gone back to Ireland, to look for a 4 leaf clover, he needs it.

When in Business you have got to be open if you like it or not, you are providing a service for the customer, who in the end pays the bills, no customers, no Buisness, when you loose one 100% chance they will not be back.

As I have said so many times before, there are so many Falangs that think opening a bar is so easy. But, when they come to count their takings for the first week, if they have not made 100,000 baht then they get disgruntled. After the first month, if they are not millionairs by then they start getting slacker and slacker, handing over most of the Farang duties to the Thai members of staff, and that is where the spiral downward really begins. Here at the Farang Connection, it has taken six years of hard work ( not six days, weeks or months)and now we can finally say we are making money. Next comes paying off the debts we have accrued in that time. We have finally reached a stage where we are busy every single day, and we are getting more and more regular customers. Our guest book is approaching the 7,000 mark, many of whom return. If all our customers turned up at once, we would have enough to fill the bus station, let alone the pub. This did not happen overnight I can assure you. So any wannabe bar owners out there that do not want to put in 200% and get a return of 25%, at least for the first couple of years, then forget it. I know. I've done it.

    Martin,

As i have said on a previous post, you have kept open and worked hard for where you are today, i admire you mate, running any Business is a hard graft these days, and especially in the Land of Smiles, i know the score still doing it at the mo, working from 5 am untill 8.30 tonight sat, 7 days per week, got 14 staff working for me, but the boss still has to do things his way at times, when in Thailand which i make about 4 times per year, i play hard and enjoy myself, it's got to be done.

When i actually sell this place or lease it out which i have done with one of my other Premises in the UK, i will be in Buriram full time and yes i am going to open a Business and it will be open from 8 am untill midnight, not like the cowboys in Buriram, fair play to the Bamboo doing well, never closed, there are so many dreamers out there who have never ran anything, not even a car, if you are going to suceed do it 100%, my customers think what go's in the cash register go's in my back pocket, i wish.

  17. Did Richard and Darrens place, the PUB open in March as had an invite to the opening but was flying back that day, no mention of this place since, it is next to book and bed, soi vong tong, peters old place.

  18. In my opinion, if you are spending up to 10 million baht, you would be better off to forget investing in Thailand and to invest in a freehold investment in the UK, ie a lock up shop with a tennant on a 10 to 15 year lease, at 200 GBP per week plus.this is what i have just done with a spare shop i have, rented it to a local bookie on a 15 year lease,

Do not put all your money in Thailand beter of to have a nestegg in your home country.

  19. I know Yasothon has a great rocket festival from 8 May 2009 until 10 May 2009. Is there one in Nong Khai around the same date??

    Hi there,

There is one in Non Bua Lampo area sometime in May, not really sure of the date, i think middle of may, went to it a couple of years back with some mates who live up there, amazing.

  20. There is something that I must add to my above post.

There are a lot of 70/80 year old Farangs, that pick up a 17-20 year old beauty, fall desperately in love and build the girl and himself, the house that dreams are made from. Now then, the builder, which the Thai girl ' has heard is good', is in a lot of cases part of the family circle, and the plans which the Farang has put in has already been scrutinised by her family and altered accordingly to more suit their needs. I'm not saying this happens in all cases, but certainly a great deal more where the 'handsome man' is 60 or more years older than his bride to be.

Absolutely. Their are lots of stupid farangs in Thailand.

    Barry

Well said, i also totally agree. met a guy one night in Dirty Dans bar in Prasat, he was 79 lost 3 houses and building another for his wife no 4, who was 21. and the girl was organising the build say no more.

  21. Just had 2 lakes dug, 5 metres deep with sloaping sides and a shelf, over 350 truck loads of soil moved to another part of the land for building on later, 2 weeks with a Hi Mac, and Three 6 wheeler trucks doing the moving, the total cost i paid was 130,000 baht, Deisel was 50,000 Baht alone, quite a good deal, the rate by the Hour is 1000 Baht for a Tractor with Blade up to 2000 Baht for a Big Hi Mac. the guys slept on site started at 7 in the morning and finished at 5 afternoon.

  22. Thanks both of you for your replies, I will certainly look them both up. We used to have a beautiful blue Great Dane (she sadly died at 13 yrs old), best dogs in the world in our opinion and before we moved to Thailand we had an African Grey Parrot, his talking was fantastic.

Anyway, thanks again and best wishes to you both,

    Falcon

Today was a very sad day for me...I am moving to Thailand in a month and had to rehome my parrots...2 conures and an African grey.

Are you sure a dog and bird are a good match...or dinner for the dog. I'm actually very serious about this.

I watched the video in a previous post, but couldn't find any such website.

My Thai wife and myself are moving full time, once i sell my Business, i have a blue and gold Macaw, i want to bring him to Thailand, do you know the rules, is this possible, asked in previous posts but not much info.

Here is the Website, of Mr Somchoi, African Greys for sale.
