  1. Bit of advise, check with the airline as some airlines will not let you fly without a doctors note, in case of DVT with a leg injury, this happened to myself last october.

My flight was a long haul London-Bangers so you maybe ok, but worth checking it out.

  2. HI does anybody know of short term accommodation in buriram probably for two months would prefer and apartment but if not a hotel that does monthly rates would need it as from the 1st of june thanks

Wife is thinking of buying 4 houses to rent out in this village, where these are situated there is lots of property for rent and sale, the rent is about 2500 per month, and only a couple of clicks out of Buriram, this is the village opposite the golf driving range, on the Surin Road, opposite the massage parlours.

If you wanted to buy 380,000 Baht a house.

  3. Irish Bar is FOR SALE. This afternoon a sign in English was posted on the front of the closed up IRISH BAR in Buriram that states BAR FOR SALE. I did not stop to write down the phone number or see the price. It might be a cautionary tale for those expats in Issan looking to "invest" in a business to see how much money was spent to "fit out" this RENTAL space, to support the business while it was open and getting "established", and how much it is now listed for sale.

It's been for sale since middle of Feb, i was told 5 million baht, 5 million baht for a Business with no Customers is this guy on another planet, and thats leasehold.

He has ripped one Ferrang off who invested 500k, a mate of mine.

it could of been a good place if it had of been run properley.

  4. Thaicoon, that looks like a bargain you got there. Is it really Teak??? Are the walls double or are the studs uncovered inside. Is the roof for effect, the thatch placed over a more permanent roofing material?

By the way, what is a "letting" room??? A room for rent perhaps??

I will be interested to hear how long the thatch lasts (functional life) and how your other projects go.

    Hi Ron,

This is a mates in Non Bua Lamphu, he has done this clever, a normal tin roof with a studding to put the thatch on, inside it has a false ceiling, shower room and toilet, and all done out in bamboo weave panels, looks superb, i have not seen it for a year or so, but the thatch will last 4 to 5 years and just replace, thatch panels are very cheap and keep places cool.

in this there is 2 separate rooms with shower which he rents out, and the cost was 200,000 baht. it is a bit plane and simple but still has character with the thatch etc

Wife and i are opening a resort with 3 big lakes etc, this is the sort of thing i am going to build to rent out. as do not want to spend big bucks.

  5. I am also interested in traditional Thai houses and there is a lot of funny nonsense here. Of course the sense of such a veranda is not that the water will stay there. The so called traditional knockdown houses are especially prepared for the Thai climate and raining season. So nobody in Thailand would sit under a veranda in the raining season. The houses are built higher, that the water can be under the veranda.

The sense of a high roof in traditional wooden houses for example is that it is much cooler in the house.

The next nonsense I can read here is that you can get a wooden house made of teak for 300000 Baht in Isaan - maybe a 30 sqm house, hardwood and then single-walled. I compared the manufacturers and was also searching in the area of Phrae but you will never get a house of this size for 300000 Baht - or better, show me pictures and I will be happy.

So at least - like always in Thailand - many people who know a lot and at least ...

This was 200,000 Baht, 2 letting rooms etc

  6. For this kind of money, you could have a real home. Teak all the way with money left over.

    Gary,

As you say, i think very expensive, if you were to build one in thailand with teak etc, be a damm site cheaper, looks like they are covering the export market, they are nice and given me some ideas. i want to build these in a resort, the pavillion would make a superb restaurant, but to cut costs even further do it thai style with a straw roof, which is also cool as you know, also the cabins,

  7. How about a bamboo house/cottage. Here is the url for a vietnam company making and selling pre-built, kit style ones. Used in resorts in various parts of the world.

    http://www.bambooliving.com/vietfactory.html

Are there any Thai equivalents doing this type of thing?

    Thanks Ron,

Brilliant as they all have the house plans, i am going to aproach a thai i know who i think maybe will knock something up out of teak etc.

I love the pavillion, that would be awsome sitting over a lake on posts.

  8. This is the sort of thing i am looking for, there are two of these for sale on the road out of Prackonchi to Prasat, when i stopped to enquire nobody around, i would love to know the prices as making a resort and these would be brill scattered around. any info much appreciated.

Also a mate of mine in Non Bua Lamphu built 2 teak bungalows with bamboo interior 1 bedroon. lounge shower, 2 letting rooms in each for 200,000 a peice, but not as much character as the thai roofed ones.

  10. Sorry, don't know where Riams Bar is ?

I liked Magnus. Apparently was going to open another place but never got it off the ground. Chris says he is often in Friendz.

Nothing that wrong with Vinyl but Paddys should have wiped the floor clean with all bars around that pond.

Yes, Magnus is a nice guy, Riams bar is the 2nd road, behind the old twiggat as driving up to the Elephant from the government offices, about 3rd down on the left, she was married to a ferrang. try it out on a friday afternoon. there are some good guys in there.

Sorry to say Fruity but you have changed your tune from a previous post.

We have friends living in that soi, the Irish bar was supposedly opening 2/3 days ago, however, I'm unsure if it actually did so?

The french place is ok, tried his breakfast a week or so ago, place done out quite nicely, food I had & service ok. Quite a few expats venturing in whilst I was there, so maybe he'll do ok? Personally, I think he'll struggle to make any money from this place. Renting a double unit, 3 waitress' & a male chef will put a drain on things. Theres just not the trade in Buriram for such a place, likewise, the irish pub will sadly struggle after the initial interest has died down.

  11. Vinyl is busy because of a few reasons. In no particular order.

Paddys, the nearest competitor is hit and miss whether open or not. Their food is overpriced, if actually available. Landlord often pissed. Many times no cold beer.

Sadatdee Krap, now Friendz closed down for a while amid managerial restructuring.

Vinyl benefited from an exodus of people from Sawadee Krap because of a number of personality issues and arguments. Also benefited from the closure of Magnus' place on Jira Road.

Vinyl caters to the morning cheap charlie Chang and Leo crowd.

It is the most "hip" place on the pond and has some cachet amongst young Thai ladies.

The old Bamboo crowd use Riams Bar, they all go to the french for early evening, and a few of them eat, i know magnus well, known him for over 10 years, he was not open long.

  12. Seen comments about the new bars in Buriram, i was quite surprised at the standard of food Oliver is serving at the french bar, in my mind this is far the best food in Buriram, and the presentation is superb, congratulations, you would pay top dollar for this in Bangkok, and in the uk it would break the bank, i will not mention the irish place as he is closed most of the time, bamboo is the same, still good food, Marks bar serves a good breakie.

Also visited ludos at Bankadan ( Time Out) also congratulations to Ludo, he also serves dammn good food and good selection of beers, drank all his cider, and a damm nice guy and atmosphere. brilliant on a sunday when he has his live music.

It is nice to see positive things happening in Buriram, also the new bar opened yesterday by book and bed two English guys hope they do ok.

One bar which serves brilliant thai food is the Lakeside, superb food and cheap as chips well worth a visit.

Please, where do you come from? Where have you ever eaten? The food in Olivers is absolute <deleted>; or Shit'e if you are , indeed French?...........Surely this is a wind up?....Try Chris' place; the n.y's guys place on the other side of the lake if you want quality.

Tried most of the bars in Buriram, down to the Embassy 15 years ago, if you know where that was, and ploys, i quite like french food, english food is boring, and most of the steaks you have in thailand are a hit or a miss, even across the lake, all the ferangs i have spoken to think olivers place is no 1, maybe thats why he is the busiest place in Buriram at the moment, and you mean the N.Z's guys place. not a new yorker.

Fruity, if you think olivers food is like <deleted>, i would not know as never eaten it :o

  13. Also visited ludos at Bankadan ( Time Out) also congratulations to Ludo, he also serves dammn good food and good selection of beers, drank all his cider, and a damm nice guy and atmosphere. brilliant on a sunday when he has his live music.

Time Out at Bankadon is indeed a great place, well worth going out of your way for. Ludo and partner Yai put a great deal of effort into it and fully deserve their success.

Which lakeside bar would you be referring to? A new Lakeside bar/restaurant, Paradise Lake, has just opened on Prakhonchai lake, run by a Dane, Lars. Good atmosphere, excellent food and very cheap.

Lakeside bar opposite side of the lake to french place in Buriram, Thai run but damm good food and cheap, worth a visit. had some good times at Ludos this time.

  15. Good to know you're feeling better,Thaicoon.

That's a good price-have you used WestEast Travel before?Any problems?

    Have a great trip,BTW.

    Thanks.

Yes used westeast Travel 12 years plus, this sort of price is what i was paying 10 years ago, also have been told on the grapevine that flights will be coming down in price, in the coming months. leaving Sa my Thai wife to look after the Business, maybe she will send me some money :o , she is brilliant.

  16. After having a bad acccident last sept and stuck here in blighty, saw the doctor friday and everything now ok to fly, rang westeast travel in hammersmith up this morning, i was quite surprised at the price which included taxes.

    Feb 9th LHR-BK Returning 3rd March, 496.00 GBP

I think that is quite a good deal considering everything going up, as the tax is 150 notes.
