1. he is the best dressed begger i have ever seen, this guy need a good going over one night.

Not that I condone this dude's begging, BUT to down right beat the hel_l out of him is senceless!! This is a Buddhist country and a free one at that and should remain as one. Giving ppl the right to do what they do as long as they don't hurt anyone! In time his karma will catch up with him, and that is never a good thing. I see that his only crime is having a sign that is full of lies!!!! And Thaicoon here proably feels jelous, maybe? :o Since Thaicoon is older and would like this guys freedom or age??? :D No offense Thaicoon, but that's how it sounds to me! :D

His dress should tell the ppl on the street that he is a scam!

Sorry mate, not old, maybe same age as the begger or a bit younger, and why should i be jealous of a <deleted> like him, people like this give us westerners a bad name, he is just a scam artist, people like this need to get off the street, it makes me sick, there are enough thai beggers in bangers who deserve to be looked after more than this guy, i would always give a poor thai something, i would not give this guy jack <deleted>, just a kick up the ass, maybe you should dip your hand in your thai baht and pay his fare home.

Sorry mate, but westeners already have a bad name, AND I AGREE with U except for kicking his ass, what good would that do???? Wouldn't stop him. Anyways just IMHO or 2 cents worth, Have :D a nice day, Thaicoon.

This sort of thing makes me mad, as this guy could go back home and claim all sorts of benefits, heck he has been doing this now for Two years. then there are the Thai Beggers, some handicaped, and others very poor begging in Bangkok, i wonder what they think of this guy, not a lot, all the best SamuiJens.

3. Today in the UK at my two local garages it is 1.34 per litre and up to 1.40 just up the road, some garage owners here are just profitering, same family own the 3 garages, and have over 60,000 litres delivered evey couple of days, they are making up to 15p per litre, it stinks, there should be a set price on fuel.

Yes, i also think the thai farmers will be going back to the old ways of farming if these rises continue.

4. Irish ?
The Irish bar called Paddys Irish Pub looks nearing completion but is locked up, it is owned by a German Guy

Yes i realise it is owned by a German, why open an irish bar?, or why not just change the name to paddys Steiner, bit of irish and german influx.

I'll never beleive a horse again........

Naay naay, why the long face

5. Guys, do any of you know of a plot of land around a hundred rai (give or take a few) for sale, with chanod, near a decent road with elecric nearby???.......I have a friend wanting to buy now in either Korat, Buriram or Surin province; he isn't so fussy as to where so long as the price doesn't exceed 40,000 baht per rai & it meets the other criteria.

It doesn't matter if there are 94 or 107 rai???, so long as there's around the hundred mark.

Any leads appreciated, please PM with details if you know of anything to suit.

Cheers.:o

What i can remember, were you not selling a large chunk of land on the prackonchai road ?,

6. In the question I wasn't sure if we should count the Thais that are exponentialy happier than us bitter cynical farangs :o

Ah what the heck let's include them all...

I would not say they are broke, they seem to get buy on very little, live day to day, and unlike us ferangs are mostly very happy, the land of smiles.

7. Hi Guys,

Wife and i have 10 rai spare just got a few trees on and a large lake, we are thinking of getting a few pigs, about 20 to 30 to start, what is the going rate these days to buy as sucklings.

8. Hi guys, Friday night i hear there was a storm around Buriram, very strong winds etc, rang the sister in law this morning, wife and i have had some damage done to our house, took part of the bedroom roof away, and the neighbours rice shed was just blown away, this went through our village causing quite a bit of damage. anyone else.

Yesterday and today they have been repairing the roof, also water through the ceiling, Mrs & I now have a water bed, as the matress is just soaking wet.

9. I used to stay in the VongTong, but gave up after a few trips.

I much prefer The Siam Hotel now. Rooms are clean and the beds are lovely. They have a wee cafe for breakfast and meals and a couple of PC's in the lobby for web access. Laundry is very cheap. Only minus point is that the phones in the guest rooms do not have outside lines available.

Its about a 5 minute walk to one of the main streets in the city and a bit further to the Bamboo bar. I like it.

I have one of their cards upstairs that I can dig-out if you need it. I will be there at the end of next week.

Londo

Good hotel, wella who owns the bamboo and mo from the bookshop opposite, own this hotel, they both showed us around when they were doing the place up, made a damm good job of the place, and nice entrance and rooms.

10. I think its only small place and more like for family to relax than the tourism place like in Pataya for sure :o

Which I found its cool. :D

Yes you are quite right, but Buriram is an up and coming city and will be on the tourism map in the future, look at all the money that has been spent, moving the night market etc, all the development, the influx of ferangs, 12 years ago you could walk down the road as you know, you would not see a ferang, maybe the odd one or two at the old embassy, it tells you something, we are all helping the economy, also the city is growing with big firms moving in, this tells you the place is on the rise.

11. It all makes my mind boggle, why do these businesses not advertise, no wonder most of them fail, get one of them loudspeaker trucks out and why not put an advert on Buriram radio, the more people know about this place the better they will do, also the website is a bit disapointing.

When i open my venture i am going to send some girls down to pattaya and bangers and flood the place with flyers, how many girls from buriram work in these places, and bring there ferang boyfreinds up to this part of Thailand. i am still counting.

12. Yesterday, Monday 14th, a truckload of young kids with their families went from Prakhonchai for a day out at "The Beach". This was based on my recommendation, although I had forewarned them of erratic opening.

Imagine their dismay to find that once again IT WAS CLOSED!

Having invested heavily in this place the management needs to do a better job, unless they have already shut up shop. Since business will inevitibly be low during the cool months and the rainy season one would have thought they would have maximised their profit during the summer months and school holidays. No savvy!

NO MORE RECOMMENDATIONS FROM ME!

if they run a business like this, in my opinion they do not deserve any customers.

13. Hi Guys

I have just started a company and wish to begin to import various things from Thailand to OZ.

1/ Can anyone recommend a good freight forwarding company, in particular going to Adelaide.

2/ I wish to import cow and pig hide carvings, these will obviously need to go through some kind of fumigation for customs. Can anyone explain this process? How is this done and where? I've heard it's much cheaper to do in Thailand before sending rather than get it done in OZ. How much could I expect to pay?

Thanks to anyone that may be able to help.

Regards

Dave

Have sent you a postmark, Fumigation of the container is organised by the shipping company in Thailand, you will also have a certificate saying this has been done, as once the container is packed and locked in Thailand, you will have a security tag which should not be removed untill you have delivery, only reason it will be removed is if customs have a suspision of counterfit goods and other things. also check the tag number to your paperwork, do not know shiping charges to OZ only UK.

14. I have heard this before, you cannot sell beer so many metres away from a temple, anyone know the precise distance in metres, i think martin at the ferrang connection had this problem, where i am opening there is a temple just up the road, wife has told me this rule is only within city limits. it does not apply outsibe the city boundary, i am going to get my brother in law also to enquire.

TBWG.

I know the french guy, lives in the next village, you can see his place from mine over the paddy fields. he is only a young guy in his late 20s. good luck to him.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Music memorabillia, i have over 30 signed guitars to put in my place, and over 500 signed peices of sports Memorabillia, 150 inch screen for live sports, we hope to start this year, we are calling it the Buriram Allstars Bar and resort, www.buriramAllstarsBar.com, under construction, it is only a couple of clicks out of town, we are custom building this place with about 5 to 10 3 bedroom bungalows, a big bar with snooker/pool and restaurant, and live music in a 9 rai site, with kids play area and fishing lake etc, bikers will be welcome and also camping facilities on site, having replica racing bikes and f1 memorabillia on display. and life size figures of sports celebrities. all the items are here n the uk ready to be shipped.

I was going to open in town but think i will have more scope doing it this way.

15. I Looked at these and was told most were for lease, also looked by the night market most of those were lease and the two that were for sale at a stupid price were out of the way, you would only pass them if you were driving from the market, also looked at a place by speed, next to the old tropicana, that was for sale at a 25 million baht price tag, the property prices now in Buriram are crazy, it just shows it is an up and coming city, i once bought two townhouses on jira road 8 years ago, for 300,000 baht a peice, we sold them a year later for 700,000 we bought these off the bank, wish now i had sat on them.

Wife and i have now decided to custom build our venture to my design, as i think it will be a better option and give us more scope for development, i was thinking of doing this in Pattaya, but been a country boy, i like Buriram to much.

16. Kind Sirs

Whether opening soon or not, please tell us where it is. Isan is big !

OK...Paddys Irish Bar (no joke, thats the name of it) is in Buriram. It is situated in a long row of shop houses alongside the new lake development. That is, between Thanon Nakhon and Thanon I-san streets. About 350 mtrs up from the day market.

I did call in there today, but the place was closed up. A peek through the window revealed work in progress (tools / wood / etc) around the bar area. So I doubt if the "opening soon" sign still applies. But TIT and you just never know.

I wish him good luck in this venture, as well as the other French - Thai bar come eatery further along the same road that Thaicoon mentioned.

I know now where it is, i looked at these places, all to lease so was not interested, trouble with lease propertys in Buriram, once you are doing ok, they start sticking the rent up, this is what has happened in the Bamboo with the guy, David, who started the place, also you are doing up a blank canvas for the thai-chinese owners, better off if you can, to buy freehold, wish them both good luck.

Wife and i have quite a big venture hopefully this year, just outside buriram.

17. I paid for a new home last year for my wife’s sister’s family. My wife flew to Thailand and supervised the construction. Her family works in the construction industry as day laborers, and they were able to do 90% of the work themselves. The 3 bedroom house took 3 months to construct and cost roughly 550k bt. I was amazed at how nice the home was upon completion.

Now, I’m thinking of building a home for myself in Buriram. My wife owns 4 rai bordering the crocodile ( don’t the name for crocodile in Thai ) river/stream. It’s a few miles from the new Big C.

Are floods an issue in Buriram or more specifically near rivers? I won’t be building an extravagant home. My wife’s family will do most the work and I anticipate the cost to be in the 1 mil bt range. It wouldn’t ruin me by any means if I lost the house. If flooding is an issue, what steps I could take to mitigate the risk of building near water.

I spent a few months in Buriram and it was pleasant if not exciting. At worst, I have a home I can stay in occasionally and the wife always has a place to stay when she visits family. I seem to be rambling – I’ll spare you any more trite info, but would appreciate any input.

Also starting building again, outside buriram, wifes family have quoted me 250k for a 3 bedroom bungalow with bathrooms, no kitchen, lounge/diner, mind you this is going to be built on a budget, so maybe we can do a bit cheaper, we are building 5 to start, then maybe another 5, this is part of our new venture outside town.

18. Also, where is the new French Restaurant that has opened in Buriram, it is called Vinyl ?, a french guys Wife from next village to us has opened it, also where is the new irsh bar, is it going to be another white elephant ?, as most of the places do not get ran properley and fail.

19. I know someone in Buriram who bought some electrical goods from mackro in Surin, a television, he got it home and was lifeless, not working so he took it back, they exchanged on the spot, you try taking something back to a shop in thailand for a refund or faulty, non existant, no after sales service, but fair play to macro, no questions asked.

20. Macro in the UK is only supposed to be used by the trade, as a wholesaler same as booker, i know macro in Thailand is a general superstore, i wonder if they have a discount card for trade customers,
