  1. We have about 100 rai, i would say 80 is rice land, wife has bought the land, with my M........y, the family farm it all and we are on a 35% share they get 65%, lots of thais work on a 70-30 percent, but wife buys all the fertilizer by bulk, just to help them out, we get a very good profit once a year.

The family are happy, now have a good life and money in the bank, before my sister in law asked a local villager to lend her 10,000 baht, and they refused, now there is a complete turn in the circle that person came last year and wanted to borrow 100,000 , sister in law refused, what go's around comes around.

Also once a year i give 5 bags to the temple, this gives you good merit in the village, they think a lot of this, my motto in life is if you treat people with respect you will have respect back from the family.

I have never had any problems with family in Thailand, i love em to bits, and it is good to see them doing ok.

  2. This is the first place that i have seen that fishes for Koi, i know it is in the UK, the place is packed every weekend with anglers fishing for Koi, 2 LB to 20 in weight, the place is called Anglers paradise, anybody in Thailand that does a venture like this. fishing for Koi.

Wife and i have just dug some big lakes to start a fishing resort, this has given me an idea to just have a fishing lake for Big Koi and various speices of Carp, the digging was bl......y hard work :o .

I always thought Koi were just show fish, did not know that people fished for them.

  3. :o Much to my amazement i have found a Englishman who is making good quality Pies and the prices are very reasonable. He does several fillings all the favourites Steak'n Kidney Steak with most things also Chicken with most fillings also and the pies are full with meat.If you like pies these are just what you have been missing.Even better than those at Prasat

    He also does HP sauce/Branston/Pickalili

You can PM me for his contact details

If you want his telephone number it is <snip>His name is Steve

Steve, Know him well he is a good mate of mine and his picallili is the bees knees. he mentioned to me he was thinking of doing this, good luck to him.

  4. Unless you are looking at physical growth as the only factor, I doubt if you need a heater for koi at all .

Koi and goldfish are by nature cold water fish and if needed just adjust the feeding if any at all during cold weather.

By the way, in the kingdom a good water depth is about 4ft as it doesn't get cold enough and the fish remain active all year round thus increasing ones pleasure, downside of this is that they need feeding all year round as opposed to the U.K

The Pond we have dug, is about 3 metres deep by 5 metres wide and the length is about 12 metres, we have put a 600 shelf all the way round with a 12 inch depth, laid on this are big sandstone & volcanic boulders, so when we fill with water quarter of the boulder will be in the pool, it will make it all look natural, we have concreted most of it just waiting for a guy from Buriram to come and fit filters etc. i have thought and may leave it for a month or two before putting fish in. let the pond mature.

If you've concreted it and intend to keep koi, might I suggest that you paint the pond, especially any bare areas of cement in any form as this will lead to continual destabilisation of the Ph factor, a figure of 7-5 would be ideal but figures above this are not necessarily harmful {reasonable increase}it's when the figures spike that causes the problems.

What sort of paint you sugest, ie same sort of paint that you paint concrete floors?, one thing i have been thinking about, concrete has a certain amount of lime, in the UK there is a product which you put in a new pool to get rid of this, is there any lime in cement in Thailand, as seen lots of concrete pools and the fish seem ok.

  6. Thanks for the Info guys, used to keep koi in the UK, had about 40 fish all over 18 inches had these for years, going to work one morning 5am, most of the fish were scattered around the lawn, all dead, this really p........ me off, as talking a lot of bucks, we had these when they were about 8 inches, spoke to the local wildlife trust, i thought maybe a mink, it was an otter.

the pond,we have concreted part of it, but no filter as yet, TWG, have you a filter, as koi also like mud

    http://www.koiphen.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=108

I was thinking maybe just put a waterfall and jets in to circulate the water, not really bothered about the pond been crystal clear. but all your info is making me think, i will give all instructions to the wife as she is flying out in the morning.

also we have dug a 2 rai lake out, but that is for another project in the future.

  7. Hi guys, anyone know where in Buriram i can buy good size Koi Carp, talking 10 inches plus, need about 50. was talking to a guy in Buriram and he mentioned somewhere by Big C, 200 baht for One fish, brother in law has been to look but cannot find the place.

    Anyone got any info.

  8. Hi there,

I'm in Samui at the moment and have seen a coffeetable for 5000 THB. If using the postoffice for means of shipping, as the table is only 28 kg, it would cost me in total with purchase and shipping about 11200THB.

Now does anyone know if I then get charged import tax and or handling charges when it gets to the uk???

Or ways of getting round havin to pay :o

    All advice is welcome!

    Cheers Izzy

If the table is classed as handicrafts, should be no Duty, all you will pay is the VAT at 15% of the cost you bought the table for, this is if you were to ship it using an agent, maybe the same with the postal service, but check, anything coming into the UK over 18.56 GBP there is VAT due.

I used to ship 40 foot boxes from Chaing mai, handicrafts no duty, just VAT.

  9. Hi Ron

You were conspicuous by your absence in FerangFoodParadise today, mate. Quite a good turnout.

Hope you are well and post No. 5 details were this location is. A local mentioned a further development/disturbance has happened but I am not going into detail as I know no FACTS.

    Dave

The other development (as I was told), was that a number of farangs were apparently drinking outside Marks place (never been there so don't know the set up or whether tables and chairs are provided outside), and the police arrived, and fined everyone 1000bt for drinking on the street.. A bit of pushing and shoving seemingly occurred, and 1 person was arrested and taken away.

If the facts as I was told are correct, and roadside chairs and tables are provided (as they used to be in "red Ribbon"), then surely the problem lies with the owner of the bar/restaurant, and not the customers. And since when did swigging a beer in public constitute an offence?

    More info obviously required.

Yes Mark does have tables and chairs on the streert, also next to the entrance of the bar is a police box where the police pick documents up twice a day, they always give you a stare, but not me as avoiding the place like the plague

  10. I use Thai but sometimes Eva, i like to fly to Bangers on a Monday, drive to Heathrow Sunday for a Monday flight, Eva does not fly Mondays which is a pity, otherwise i would use them more often, also last time i booked Feb, the Eva flight was more expensive than Thai, I can never understand all these price structures with airlines, the mind boggles, but do not get us wrong, EVA is a good airline.

  11. We had an irate customer in this morning, who had been stopped by the Police and fined 200฿ for..........................................wait for it..............................................................................

    .........................

Not wearing his shirt while driving :P:wai::o:D :D :D :D

Have to start calling Surin, Monte Carlo

  12. His rent is ok if you had some reason to use the rooms. The kitchen is a farce and likely needs a total revamp. His bar is useless re fridges etc. so there are no real assets. His ancient TV and fan do not count. OK, his woodwork is worth something but no great shakes if he rips it out. It is worth about a fiver to anyone else.

Realistic figures ? If his lease is 3+3+3 with no key money and minor rent increases and he pays government electric, then perhaps a few hundred thousand. There is no goodwill, in fact, that might be negative ( :o ).

It would take some serious investment to get it up and running properly. Perhaps a few hundred thousand for proper fridges, store room and a kitchen, fix stuff like the toilet basin, employee some staff on decent wages and have a serious lead in of loss leaders to build up trade.

However, the biggest problem in Buriram is that most people won't spend come Christmas. Never have I seen a city with so many penny pinching cheap charlies. Therefore, everything is purely price competitive which never works. Moving away from price competition means offering things which people in Buriram will not pay a premium for.

I could make it work, but the prices and lease would have to be cheap enough to start with. I'll pay 5 million ok, in Vietnamese Dong or Zimbabwean Mugabes or whatever it is there !

Good post, you have hit the nail on the head, and for cheap charlies you are damm right there, i know guys who will drink elswhere because they can save a couple of baht.

  13. I have a blue and gold macaw aged 7, if this is your first bird, i would advise something smaller as macaws can be nasty and a one man bird, mine is not so bad, he does have his bad days and sometimes does give a bite. and remember these live to 60+.

Also you must keep parrots ocupied, otherwise they will start feather plucking.

One question, can you bring a parrot from the UK into Thailand, some people tell me it is ok if i have vets papers etc, and others say, ban on importation of Birds, as when i move full time i would like to bring this bird with me.

  14. The worst example I have seen personally there was not English, he was driving a big bike, swigging booze in a brown paper bag as soon as he got off the bike and before crawling into a bar for more booze. Real lowlife

I am not disagreeing with you bumbui, but only not saying the problem is solely English thugs. You only have to go to Pattaya or read Pattaya Press to see many nationalities cause trouble.

    Dave

Was it a CBR900 Fireblade, hope not, mind you i am welsh, left the sheep at home.

  15. HI does anybody know of short term accommodation in buriram probably for two months would prefer and apartment but if not a hotel that does monthly rates would need it as from the 1st of june thanks

Wife is thinking of buying 4 houses to rent out in this village, where these are situated there is lots of property for rent and sale, the rent is about 2500 per month, and only a couple of clicks out of Buriram, this is the village opposite the golf driving range, on the Surin Road, opposite the massage parlours.

If you wanted to buy 380,000 Baht a house.

HI thanks for that i will check it out for sure do you know the name of the village i will get my lady to go and see before i get there

    Bogeye,

Not sure of the name of the village, just past the massage parlours on the right going towards Surin, there is the Driving range, and a real nice Japanese style house, with a builders merchants in front, the entrance to this village is right opposite. there are a few new shops etc.

  16. This is nothing compared to what happened in the Bamboo 6 years ago, i was disgusted, and this was a ferrang customer beating up a thai for no reason at all, and the thai mans poor 6 year old daughter saw this with her own eyes, she was petrefied. now what does this little girl think of ferrang.

There is no excuse to use Baseball bats, if mark was a man he should of stood up to these guys, banned them and just asked them to leave. if the problem persisted rang the old bill, if the guy started on him first, he then has a reason to give him a slap as self defence. if i was in the Landlords shoes, armlock behind the back and out.

  17. Has Darren and Richards place opened yet, told me they were opening on the 7th March, it's called the Pub soi vong tong, they bought it off peter.

Sorry Thaicoon, I do not know but it does sound like a very good time to open a good bar in Buriram

    :o

    Dave

The problem these guys have, is the lease and then the rent, short leasehold or longterm, big problem, as not much profit in beer, they must do other things to get the punters in, maybe put a couple of poles in :D , 'oh sorry' better dismiss that idea as they are all over here in the UK.

Wife and i are opening a place just outside town, but be a while yet as just started a month ago.
