@Aussieroaming yeah, it was pretty high. The tax was over that amount.
@ChokDee4213 Nothing wrong with asking how laws work correct? I'm not a lawyer like you must be.

The rules are indeed different. You need an import licence for booze or baccy, no licence, no import.
You don't need a licence for a handbag (despite my wife's being classed as a lethal weapon), so you can pay the duty. You evidently got caught up in the purge a little while back when everything that looked remotely dutyable and valued over about 10k was stopped and charged.
We were ignorant on the rules and brought it in a giant gucci bag with the recipt still in it. It was clear as day and with hind sight very dumb. It was well over 100k Baht so we paid the crazy tax and went on. Now I ask about the rules first and glad I did. I would have walked in with 500g or so of cigars but yeah, not worth the risk at all.
Sadly I live in the north and shipping them here has failed in the past.
Thanks again

Okay thanks for the help. I guess cigars and handbags are not the same sort of thing.

@crossy
I have been "caught" in the green line with a designer bag for my wife bought in Singapore and they made my pay import taxes on it. The tax was over 30,000 Baht but they let me keep the bag. I honestly had no idea I had to pay a tax on a hand bag at the time.
Can I not just pay taxes like this on the cigars? This would be trying to pay in the red line? I'm not sure what the "official mechanism" means.

I will be traveling wiht my underage child into Thailand. Will we get 250g each or will only adults who come into the country get 250g?
What happens if I want to bring in 500g and I am willing to pay taxes on my cigars assuming we do not get the 250g for the child? How does this happen?
Thank you.

Yes they can by applying at a embassy or official consulate in their home country.
So they would need to visit Thailand (as a tourist?), open the bank accounts and get insurance, then go back home to apply?
Thanks

How can one get the 10 year from their own country if they need
– Applicant must have a bank deposit of no less than 3 million bahts in Thailand or a bank deposit of no less than 1.8 million bahts and annual income of no less than 1.2 million bahts. Such amount must be maintained in bank deposit in full for at least one year, and keep at no less than 1.5 million bahts thereafter.
– Applicant must have a Thai health insurance for the duration of stay, with coverage for outpatient treatment of no less than 40,000 bahts and inpatient treatment of no less than 400,000 bahts.
Can people get these 10 year visas now?

I have a booked tour to Keng Tung and Tachilek. MaLong is some place I can't go. Travel and treking is good in some parts of the Shan State. Also I will be going to Hipsa or something in the North West Shan State.

Yes, but make sure you’re given the correct 1 year permit to stay. I doubt they’ve seen many PE visas at that crossing.
I did this once before (but when also leaving from that exit on a day trip) and after a while the nice lady did sort it out on her own. She spent some time on the computer first, I assume to check that she was doing it correctly.
Thanks

Yes, but you have to fly to Tachileik.
Land travel is not permitted for foreigners in Shan state.
Unless you live in Mae Sai I don't see the point.
I live in Mae Sai and I will fly to Tachileik.
I have traveled around parts of the Shan State before. I was told Mong La is off limits but some of it is okay, did this change recently? Keng Tung is still open?

I have the 20 year Thai Elite visa, would I be able to enter Thailand at Mae Sai from Myanmar? I plan to fly to Mandalay from Bangkok to enter Myanmar.
Thank you.

Thank you very much for your help ubonjoe ????

I have been told mixed things about getting a work permit when only holding a tourist Elite 20 year visa. Mostly strong no's with the execption of a lawyer who wants me to set up a company and can "100% get me the permit".
This is a scam or acceptable? I can't find any information here.
Thanks

Thanks guys for the info on the game tomorrow. I'll turn it on in the morning and see what I can see ?
If anyone does find a new location for the grid like was up before I would be very happy.

Thanks guys, I will not be able to able to get the Non-O on my next two month trip. I could however get one in Loas either before or after my trip. I do have proof of funds so that would not be an issue.
A visa service might work but I do not know of any around here, I'll have to ask around. I have always done it the hard way before
The Thai Elite membership more or less makes it so I will not have to visit Loas each year for the next 20 years. This is a huge plus for me as I went to university here and I pretty much live here with family. I want to be able to come here when needed.
I'm trying to find any down side to the 20 year membership program other than money. I'm more or less trading money for time here and no other disadvantage that I can see. I just want to makie sure I'm not missing something. As far as I understand it all I will need to do is leave once a year and do my 90 day reports. I almost never stay more than 90 days at a time so this should not be an issue.
Thanks again guys.

Okay, thank you for the help ubonjoe.
Is there any disadvantage (other than the fee) for the 20 year tourist visa over the Non-O? I want to just be able to come and visit my family when I'm able, not when the immigration needs me to do more paper work.
Thanks.

@ubonjoe
It was issued here in Thailand. Took about 45 days sadly. A window I might not be able to do when I return.
I will be traveling so trying at an embassy somewhere will not be an option either.
Thanks

Instead of coming in on a tourist visa exemption since you will be out of the country why not apply for a new Non-O before you re-enter ?
I had the understanding that I could only do this 2 weeks before my other one expired. Is that not true? Can I start the process now, 3 months in advance?
-
I am married to my Thai wife and we have children. I have been in Thailand for 12 years and have some experience with visas.
However my one year multi entry Non-O visa will end about a week before I return to Thailand next February. I am in Thailand now but will leave in December for 2 months.
Is there any way to extent this that early before I leave? Should I try to return on a 15 day tourist visa and just redo the whole process for the Non-O. It took me over a month last time.
Are their better options out there? Honestly I have been looking at the 20 year tourist visa for 1,000,000 Baht as a way to not have to deal with immigration issues yearly as I travel often. Is there any real down side to this?
Any suggestions welcomed, thanks in advance.

Well, well ,well......first declaring these items as they say in Thailand----- FOR WHAT???? As other members have posted there is no date stamped on the gold on when you have bought it. Even though 40 Baht of gold is alot and you plan on coming back to Thailand anyways, so why ask such a stupid question that at any internet cafe you can find out the answer in 5 minutes?? Is the idea to impress the members here that you own 40 Baht of gold? As for keeping records ect... again the stupid questions keep coming. May be you are bored, who knows?? As for getting a safety box at a bank, yes it is very hard to get unless you have a alot of money in the bank. Also there are many rules and regulations that govern these boxes. As for worrying about the way the banks are around the world and the fact it might get stolen when you are away. All i can say is WOW. I would suggest to elevate the level of your thinking. Go to an internet cafe and study....study...study. If you need to find a safety box in Bangkok, I would suggest this company which is Swiss run and very good. http://www.safedepositboxbangkok.com/ Take care.....
lol, pretty everyone else in this thread was helpful.
im going to guess you will not be around long.

It is my wife. she has 10 rings 5 bracelets and 3 or 4 necklaces. she would look pretty silly having it all on at once.

If you will return to Thailand and don't actually need it put it in a safety deposit box.
we did think about that, but it is nice to have it with us. esp with all the banks around the world on edge.

To get a tourist visa one needs a bank statement now? I can't see this helping tourism.
