  1. Interesting. I have been in Thailand mostly for 7 years now so I would guess this would be helpful. So it seems I need to file a I-12F9, a K3 and a G-1145. Anything else would be helpful? How soon should I wait after we are legally married? We have been living together for over 2 years. How long will this whole process take?

Also if we just want to visit the USA what is the max amount of time she can stay and what are the odds she will get the visa if she has no real need to return?

Also would it be helpful if a company employed her and we tried to go that way?

    Thanks.

  2. Hi, My wife and I were just legally married in Thailand and we would like to go to the USA for a while to have a religious wedding ceremony and meet the family. I might want to stay there a while if I can get decent work. It seems to get her residency I need to get a K visa and this will take 8 months? If I want to go faster we can do a tourist visa but how long can she stay? Once she is there can she extend? My family has significant assets in the USA and could employ my wife and myself if this is helpful. We do not have a whole lot that would make them think that she has any need to return to Thailand and from what I understand that is key for a tourist visa. Any ideas on what to do? I really do not want to wait 8 months to go back home. My grandparents are getting up there in age and want them to get some time with my child.

    Thanks.

  3. This quote was found in a differnt thread but related. Can I get 60 days with out leaving Thailand?? Thanks

"Your extension of stay ends the date your employment ends (31st) and you should have a letter from school to take to immigration to cancel your extension and then with wife/marriage extend for 60 days (without wife it would be 7 days). You should not need anything from Labor for 60 day (unless for cancel of extension) as that is to visit wife and has nothing to do with employment."

  4. That is the name of the home register but it is not a price of paper but a bit larger than normal passport size blue covered book printed horizontal format. So if she has copies of that it should be fine. Am not sure of the A4 paper but perhaps coming of age document of some type?

She has a copy of a copy of that book. but i guess it will have to do:) she needed that other document that was A4 sized to get married.

Thanks for your help guys, this is such a better option that taking Thai classes at 22k :)

  5. To be clear about the home register...

She just got a new document "Tatbein Bahn" she calls it. This is a full sheet of A4 paper saying she is now 20 and has her address and the like. She has the orginal of this. She also has a copy but not access to the "Tatbein Bahn" book from her home.

Will I need just one of these documents or both?

Also assuming I did get the cash into my bank account could I just extent my visa with out leaving the country? Like change it to a marrage visa?

    Thank you.

  6. Very interesting. Thank you for your helpful ideas.

I have a 1 year visa now and a work permit. This will end April 30th. I assume I will need to be in Loas around this time? Can I do it before? Also I assume I can cross into Loas from the friendship bridge that was just opened. I won't need to goto Veintian correct?

My soon to be wife had her "home registers" change I think. She has a signed copy of some document that is related to this but she does not have that "house book". Will this be okay?

Thanks again, this seems to be much easier than I expected.

All the other documetns will be fine and she will go with me to Loas.

  7. Marriage requires an income of 40,000 a month OR 400,000 in the bank for 2 months.

Income from within Thailand must be shown with tax documents, income from abroad must be confirmed with a letter from your embassy.

Alternatively, when married you cna get a multiple non-O from Savanakhet in Laos, would give you almost 15 months, with border runs every 90 days.

Would I need to show income for this 15 month border run visa path?

Also since my income is split that will make it a pain right? Also all I can do is show that I brought in like $10 to $20k US into Thailand in the last year. I can't show where it came from. I do not know what income means. :/ Much of the money was taken out of my savings account using an ATM card.

    Thanks for you assistance.

I'm going to edit this becasue I reread what you posted.

So assuming I get married in the next few weeks on April 30th I can go to Loas (Vientian?) and get the Marrage visa with no income? This will cost about how much? Also the boarder runs each month will just be the fee to get into that country?

    Thanks.

  8. Hello all, I am looking to stay in Thailand for about 6 months maybe a year.

I have been in Thailand for 7 years and have always had education visa's (graduated from a 4 year full univeristy program in Thailand), or I have been emplyed as a teacher for government schools.

The issue is I do part time work online as a computer consultant and I am making way more money than I can teaching. I would like to end teaching and just work full time on my unregistered business but stay in the country with my family.

I have a son who I am not the legal father in Thailand, but I am the legal father in the USA (he lives with me and has dual passports). I will be marrying a girl very soon (not the mother of my child).

I understand that I can get an education visa from walen or what not and study online for about 22,000 a year.

I also understand that I can get the marrage visa. Part of the issue with this is I do not at this time have 400,000 in the bank account and will have to sell some gold over in the USA to get it. This will be a massive pain.

I was paid 32,000 a month in the last year from the governent and can prove it. I also brought in about 30,000 a month over the last year but I did not declair or pay taxes on this income. Much of it was since January. Adding the two together the total will be above 40,000.

My visa and work will end April 30th.

Should I just sign up for the classes? I don't mind brushing up on my Thai. Is there a way I can do the marage visa in time with my income? If not in time with the 400,000?

    Thanks.

  9. I have a 6am flight out Sunday morning. I was planning on getting transport to BKK on Saturday (from the East), getting a hotel and getting up early to go to the Airport.

I have been reading that all the hotels are full and getting around in BKK is fail. Would there be a room in the Sukimvit area? Should I just spend Saturday night sleeping on the airport floor? Thanks.

  10. Hi, I am in the same spot as OP. I need to get a Visa to go to India. I already have my flight tickets for the end of this month but this has me a bit worried.

Start here http://www.ivac-th.com/ check out 'courier application'. It usually takes 5 working days turn round at the embassy plus courier timings so you should be fine if you apply now.

Tourist Visa - no problem, Business Visa - needs a Thai work permit, Employment Visa - have to return to home country.

Thanks for the tips. I will be going as a tourist for just a week. I was able to get a hold of a tourist company I have used before and they said that it would be 5,300 baht (I am an American) and they could do it for me in 6 days. All this internet stuff and driving to a city to do a courier service had me a bit worried. Thank you for all the help. Best regards.

  11. Hi, I am in the same spot as OP. I need to get a Visa to go to India. I already have my flight tickets for the end of this month but this has me a bit worried.

    * Foreign nationals who do not hold resident visas in Thailand are dealt with on a case to case basis and some individual cases may require around 6-8 weeks time for processing.

I do not live in BKK, what is the fastest way I can get this visa? When I did this a few years ago I used a travel agency and assumed that I could do the same again. It only took 2 days then. Last time I did this I just handed someone my passport and some money and things worked out. Should I look for something like this or have things just radically changed? Thanks

Why have you booked a ticket before getting a visa? I hope you have not paid for it in full yet>>>>>>>>

Everyone knows not to purchase a ticket before the visa has been granted.

Thank you for the helpful post all my questions have been answered!

But really all joking aside can anyone give me any helpful advice on how to get this done quickly? Thank you.

  13. at 11$ now its still very profitable.

I guess that depends if you got them 2 weeks ago at 8 or 2 weeks before that at 14.

But saving 150 baht certainly makes enduring that sort of volatility worthwhile I imagine.

to get from the money into bitcoins and back out takes less than 5 mins. the volatility is not a while lot in that time frame. sure is better than waiting a week for a bank wire.

the network is almost instant. i know you dont understand how this works but it really is cool. no fees no wait. im not saying bitcoins is a great investment but it does have some useful ways to use it.

edit: also at 11$ mining is profitable. mining is using your computer to make bitcoins. thats not the same as buying them.
