So sad RIP; from my 35 years of working and living in Thailand I would never....never get on a motorbike here, let alone a pushbike in this country. Don't know the full details of the how, when and why this deadly incident occurred but; The large number of idiots I have seen in pickup trucks over the years speeding and driving dangerously in Thailand is just mind-blowing. I would like to see the statistics of how many road incidents (not accidents) pickup trucks are involved in.

My experience re the new system, if it gets rejected just keep re-submitting it, in my case it was rejected twice and approved on the third submission. All the required fields I was required to enter in the new form were exactly as per the fields submitted on the old system's form, which did work great until I had an annual visa renewal. (suspect the old overstay fake data point alert screwed me) I think I recall that initial submissions might be machine approved and continuing rejected ones are human approved. Anyway, for what it's worth, give it a go.

Zebra Crossings: Motorists still ignoring them, Thai media discovers
berrec replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Like all road rules here in Thailand, many drivers just treat them as guidelines. No need to follow them as 1) majority of them wouldn't understand a road rule if you put it in front of them and 2) No need for me to follow any road rule as I am more important than anyone else on the roads. -
Bangkok to bury all overhead cables underground within 3 years
berrec replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Wow, can you show us on a map where? -
Well, no details yet of how other than it was a wet road, but, "the driver of the Vigo pick-up was on his way to sort out a speeding offense in his hometown"? Like most of these pickup vehicles, I see regularly speeding on roads driven by absolute morons with little consideration for the consequences of their idiotic actions.

Well, if I understand it, the incident happened on private property, so not sure if the driving rules are gazetted by the juristic manager of the complex. Additionally, there are speed limit signs of 30 km in my Muban and I would expect in the Muban in question also. None, of these deliver guys, take any notice of the speed limit restrictions and regularly speed through our Muban That motorbike in the video IMHO was travelling too fast in a residential Muban to take an invasive action safely. .

Bangkok to equip 100 zebra crossings with traffic lights in two weeks
berrec replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
How about assigning 100 BIB's at these crossings. That IMHO has a better chance of being effective, costs less, get the BIB's out of the AC offices doing what they are paid to do and scaring the <deleted> out of these crazy Thai drivers that try to run the crossings when pedestrians are on them. Also collecting some additional revenue from fining the morons that don't stop. -
THIRTEEN policemen sacked from RTP in January alone

It's just all a big misunderstanding ............ a storm in a teacup, it will all blow over in a few weeks. They will all be rehired through the backdoor. 555 -
Ya, welcome to the LOS and LONR (No Responsibility), it's difficult in the majority of cases to find anyone here that accepts responsibility for any adverse actions unless shamed or dragged kicking and screaming. My experience with over 40 years of working and living now here is it's a complete loss of face to admit "Ya it's me that's responsible" by Thais. So like most, just suck it up!

Give it a day, it will be old news tomorrow, just like the rest of the alleged past corruption cases that have now been swept under the carpet. Let's face it, it's just normal every day horsetrading in Thailand, from the taxi driver to the highest levels of business and government. It's only a rort if you're not in on it!

ROAD TRAFFIC ACT, B.E. 2522 (1979). Section 70. The driver who drives a conveyance reaching a junction, pedestrian crossing, stopping line, or roundabout must slow down. Section 4 (13) “Safety zone” means an area on the road having the sign apparently viable all the time provided for a pedestrian to stop for crossing the road, or for a person stepping up or down a vehicle to stop for crossing the road;

Tourism Ministry Launches ‘Thailand Trusted Destination’ Campaign
berrec replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"C'mon man" You Know the Thing! It is and has been and will always be just another Thai propaganda campaign. This country is all about its presentation and perception and lacks little or any associated substance to its announcements. If you live here and like the people and the culture here (which I do), you just accept it all as "the norm" and move on. Thailand's mission statement "Another Day, Another Preposterous Government Program Announcement" The scary thing is they actually believe their own propaganda nonsense. -
Point in case, insurance companies gamble on their polices and mitigate risk (see below no one over 75) by using the services of an actuary for the analysis of the measurement and management of risk and uncertainty. Guess these Thai insurance companies on verge of going under because of COVID payouts had crappy actuaries or advice, or were too miserable to use one. Thai Insurance companies actuary!
