  1. Thailand really needs to look at their complicated ‘jump through the hoops “ retirement visa system, many Latin American and some European destinations offer 90,180 and even 365 day tourist visa- dont need to show bank statements, don’t need to show insurance and some no onward ticket, making it easy to stay then visit another adjacent country and then come back .

And then 90 day reporting standing in line , need to improve the 90 day online system

  2. Many thanks , I am not worried about Thai immigration , but if I have a 90 day non O visa when I leave Australia the airline will want to see a return or onward ticket to comply with my 90 day visa, even though I have an intention to extend while In Thailand  otherwise they won’t let me board my outbound flight from Australia, hence why I was asking about a cheap onward ticket/throw away ticket to satisfy them when I depart Australia.

2.Can I get a multi entry non O visa  so have to leave after 90 days and then come back in for further 90 days ). ?

    thanks again

  3. Hi, I am 53, so instead of doing the ‘retirement visa OA’, I can apply for a non O visa based on my age, then once in Thailand could I extend this ?

    2. My credit card provides for 3 month coverage could I use this for a Non O visa ?

    3. If I have any visa be it a Non O 90 day , 30 day visa exemption on arrival ( and I want to extend whilst in thailand) do i need to initially show a return /onward air ticket for the initial 90 day or 30 day when I arrive in Thailand , as when I depart Australia the airline wants to see I have a return onward ticket that is consistent with my visa or exemption? I.e or do I need a “throw away “ ticket

    thanks

  4. So the 40/400k insurance is for your retirement visa ? And then you need separate covid insurance ?

can they both be obtained from the companies listed on the long stay.tgia.org ?

how do you get someone to sign the certificate of insurance  form on the long stay.tgia.org website ?

  5. Moving to Thailand to live , stay in a 1 bedroom 45sqm condo, if I run the air con 12-16 hrs a day how much approx do you think my bill will be ? They charge 9baht per unit ( I assume a unit is kw)?

water they charge 50 baht  per unit ( assume that 1 unit =1 Kl or 1000 litres ?

    many thanks

  6. Hi everyone thanks for your replies. Yes I am trying to avoid the extension of stay as don’t want to keep money in a Thai bank account and have to renew the extension of stay at a Thai immigration.

just though I could get the retirement visa in Australia ( only need to show Australian bank statements ), then go to Thailand for 6months ( obviously 90 day reporting ), then return to Australia to work for 6 months , by that time,I would need  to submit a brand new application in Australia  for retirement before going back to Thailand

basically I am always applying for a NEW retirement visa application every year in Australia and don’t have to deal with Thai immigration such as you would if you were applying for an extension. Probably more expensive , but less hassle and no requirement to show money in a Thai bank account.

  7. Is it possible to apply for a retirement visa in Australia, then go to Thailand spend 6 months there , leave and go back to Australia for 6 months (by this time the visa would expire) and then re-apply again in Australia for another  retirement visa and repeat the above mentioned cycle again every year ?

Reason : 1.only want to spend 6months at a time per year and work back in Australia the other 6months.

    2. Would save all the BS with Thai  bank statements , proof of income or Thai bank balance when reapplying at a Thai immigration office. So then I apply in Australia and the Embassy only wants to see if my Australian bank account statements as this is enough proof of funds.

i know this is different to what most people do, but only want to partially retire , and also seems the Thai embassy in Australia is easier to deal with than back in Thailand at a local immigration office.

So in essence just keep re-applying every year in Australia

any comments if this could work ?

    thank you in advance

    You could do that.

Or if you could time schedule return to Thailand shortly before the visa expires (one year from the date of issue) you would get a new 1 year entry.

question: if I did as per above reply, even if I came back to Thailand before the visa that was issues in Australia 12 months earlier, I would still have to show money in a Thai bank account/or pension to renew the visa for a further 12 months at a Thai immigration office, is this correct ? Just easier to re-apply in Australian, so dont have to go through all the BS?

  10. I had delusions of grandure that I would retire to Thailand and play golf 3-4 times a week, based on these prices no way I could afford that . I pay 22000 baht ($1100 AUD) per year for membership (green fees), no caddy or buggy fee ( unlimited playing as many times you want ), so playing in Australia much cheaper ! Or are places like Hua hin, other Pattaya courses or courses near Trat (want to live in Koh Chang )cheaper ?  I have heard other countries such as Phillipines, Malaysia,Vietnam are no cheaper !

  11. Hi new to this forum,

    1. Does annual membership cover your green fees ?

    2. Every time you play golf , is the motorised golf cart compulsory or can you just walk around with a golf push cart ?
    3. What are some of the cheaper options to play golf in Pattaya , Hua hin or other coastal areas?

    4. I like Koh Chang but I hear there is no nearby golf course ?

thank you and sorry if this is a repetive questions ?

  12. Hi I know with covid this is a question when things return to normal. They say if you arrive on a visa exemption of 30 day stay you can extend for another 30 days , or if you have a 60 day tourist visa (applied in your home country)you can get a further 30 days.  BUT , if I depart my home country with a return ticket of 60 days (30 day exemption + 30 day extension planned ) or 60 day multiple entry ( plus 30 day extension), the airline will refuse me entry on he plane fro. Australia as they say you don’t have permission ( at the time of departure)to stay more than 30 or 60 days respectively? Even if I explain to them  I -lan to apply for an Extension  ?

same If I just want to get a visa exemption on arrival but no return or onward flight they may refuse even though I may do a few visa runs via air tri-s to neighbour countries , how do, you get around this ?

  13. I know this is off topic, but are there my affordable golf clubs, my club in Australia charges 1100 AUD per year and you can play as much as you want you can walk around with golf buggy and don’t have to pay compulsory caddy and motorised cart fee ?

are any of the neighbouring countries any cheaper , want to retire to SEA OR South America with my retirement consisting of playing golf 3-4 times per weeks, at Thailand prices don’t think it’s affordable ?

    many thanks

i remember a nice club in phichai district in uttaradit can’t remember the name
