  1. To Australians:

Did you know the Commonwealth Bank of Australia Platinum credit card offers 12 months international travel insurance (most other banks only offer 3-6 months), the insurance is offered by Zurich Australia. Handy if you are spending more time overseas.

by the way little know clause (at least in the above insurance but i am sure is widely the same). You are NOT covered for motorbikes above 200cc engine capacity and if you do not have a Australian motorbike licence and international licence.

So next time your Thai wife or GF wants to ride the the Honda 125cc (which is under 200cc limit) and she has no licence or only a thai licence then you are NOT covered and your spouse as well if you have an accident!! (stupid really is she has a valid Thai licence !!! all because she does not have an Australian licence).

So all these Auzzies riding large motorbikes in places like Pattaya etc check your policy fine print

  2. AUSTRALIA:

After reading everyone's experiences (which have been invaluable), Question: the Import Permit, i get the impression some people dont bother applying and just show up in Bangkok and obtain on arrival ??? Is this correct?

I have a dog i want to bring from Australia and i am suspecting Thai Airways will want to see a import permit ??

I read that the dog willl need a pre embarkation inspection by an Australian Quaratine inspection service VET, is this correct ? considering i will have obtained a health certificate from my Vet.

Is it necessary to get a government vet to co-signed the health certifate from my vet.

If you dog is healthy BUT has a deformity ( she can walk and run fine but one of her rear legs- the knee - is not the best and she has a imperfect kneee joint) would this preclude her from comming to thailand ?

    many thank

  3. Hello , i intend to live in thailand with my thai wife. Does anyone know the requirements for bringing a dog into thailand. I contacted the customs and they advise i just need a health certificate from the vet, but i read somewhere you need written permission from your local administration where you intend to live in thailand, is this the case.

    2. any other tips ?

  4. Thanks Mario, i thought it might be a problem if i am away working in Australia for more than 90 days as you are suppose to report every 90 days??? so if i am out of the country i cannot report as required , so does this mean i can really only leave for not more that 90 days at a time ? Or can i still report from overseas or will they see that i have left the country and my 90 days will start from when i come back ?

So i guess until i am actually ready to live in thailand most of the year , then maybe a non imm 0 multiple entry is the way to go and just get a new visa every 12 months in my home country rather than the extension of stay based on marriage?

    thanks

  5. thanks guys with the extension of non imm O visa based on marriage, does this mean i could apply for this type of visa even though i may only be in thailand 6 months of the year ( i am assuming if i have a multiple re-entry permit then this should be ok ?)

    2. If i get a non imm 0 visa multple entry in my country , is it worth applying straight away in thailand for the extension of this visa based on marriage

    many thanks

  6. I am an Australian and married to a thai lady. We live in Australia but want to move to Thailand to live in the next year. I am 40 years of age.

I intend to live 6 months of the year in Thailand and work in australia the other 6 months. The wife will mostly likely live most of the year in thailand (unless she wants to come back to Australian and work for 3-6 months).

I am thinking the non imm O visa multi entry is the best.

But was wondering abou the permanent resident visa ? I was told that there is a limited quota per nationality and that you need to be able to speak and read Thai language pretty good otherwise you have not much chance of getting this type of visa. This type of visa would be great as i would not have to leave every 90days or report to immigration/police on a extension of non imm o

    Any advice would be great.

  7. Hello in regards to supplying a copy of your overseas marriage certificate i read the requirements for the extension of the non o visa and states you only need to supply a copy of your marriage certificate. It does not state whether it needs to be transalated or does not state it has to be registered with MFA and the local amphur.

can anyone advise if my australian marriage certificate is sufficent and does not have to be registered as above ?

  8. Hello in regards to a copy of your marrigage certificate , does it need to transalated into thai language ( mine is Australian).

    2. we were married in Australia and have a marrigage certificate, we then were also married the traditional thai buddihst way, can (or is there any point) to registering the thai traditional buddihst wedding or can we register the Australian marriage at the local Amphur and is there any advantage for purposes of a visa

    many thanks
