Alfie do you think Liverpool would have accepted a 50 million pound bid from Arsenal?

I think Stevie G should be in the running for 2nd or 3rd.
-
Superb! Not sure what else to say right now!
-
Ok, what about Young Player of the Year?
-
Was delighted with that result. We weren't at our best and West Ham made it difficult for us. Was delighted to see Brendan change it at HT and that definitely worked. That was the sought of test that we had to pass if we want to be champions.
Special mention to Stevie G again. Firstly that pass for Suarez for the first goal was absolutely unbelievable in my opinion. I know we should be used to it by now but he just keep's producing and that was as good as I can remember. Secondly for becoming the clubs 6th all time top scorer, overtaken Kenny, superb!
Onto next week, can't wait, lets hope we can keep going but whatever happens we have been superb.

New rumours about Sherwood punching a player:
Sherwood tried to punch Lloris and Kaboul tried to defend his keeper but ended up punching himself in the face and the defenders left gaps open for 3 extra punches.
Soldado tried to punch Sherwood lots of times but missed as he can only punch when Sherwood is handcuffed.
Lamela bought a very expensive new pair of boxing gloves but is not fighting. Lennon is currently running around the dressing room at high speed but missing all his punches.
Ledley King has been punched and has died, his good friend Abou Diaby was very sad at hearing the news but also passed away after being given a pat on the back by Flamini.
Townsend is hiding in the toilet but giving everyone stick on twitter about being punched, from his phone.
Wojciech Szczesny and Kieran Gibbs have broken into the dressing room and taken a selfie with Sherwood, who then punched Kieran Gibbs, mistaking him for Chadli. -
Most already been said obviously. Very pleased, I keep waiting for us to have an off day and slip up but we keep winning.
I am obviously delighted but as Brendan says we have to keep looking at the next game and focusing on that. Thought we would challenge for 4th at the start of the season so anything more is a bonus. Lets just see what happens.
Quite a few fans from other teams wanting us to win it now due to the football we are playing.

I enjoyed that but I enjoyed when he smashed Soldado with a belter of a tackle just as much!

who has never won anything as a manager yet. he's doing all the right things but he still doesn't have real experience of a championship run-in.
Exactly! Likewise I am his biggest fan but your are correct and neither do any of our players.

I still think we're dark horses for the title and not favorites. Man City should be favorites as if they win their games in hand they would be 3 clear at the top.
If we win every game we'll finish above Chelsea and just less than Man City if they win every match, too.
It's the best title race in years, as their are 3 in it with 7 matches to go. Very exciting.
As a Liverpool fan, I'd love to see us beat the odds and do it in the most unexpected fashion, as just about nobody would have been picking Liverpool to win the title this year.
Regardless, top 4, hopefully higher, seems very likely. That was the goal and I'm ecstatic at seeing us back challenging at the right end of the table. It's been a great season in the league so far, if not the Cups.
We just won 7 straight, why not 7 more straight wins and lift the trophy at the end of it? If we do, it will surely be a stunning feat.
I have to say we're not favorites, though, and this match will be the greatest test of nerves, so far. I think there's more drama and possible shock results for Chelsea and Man City yet to be had, and we do have a chance even if we don't get maximum points. I think we really will have to get 18 to 21 points to have a shot at it, though.
Hoping and dreaming, but I will be happy with this season wherever we end up, as long as we continue on this great form, even if not quite maximum points. This is what it's all about.
It's just been a dream of a season so far, can the impossible really happen? It's not the likeliest outcome, but at least we're 2nd or 3rd favorite to win it at this point, and that's made all Liverpool fans happy and buzzing again, for the first time in six years, really, except for one League Cup trophy a couple years ago.
I like you. Good post matey.
Tnx.
Yes second that!

You will beat Spurs YoungBrit.
Rodgers knows.
Different tests for Brendan next month.
I think Chelsea is the biggest test against Mourinho. I agree with you and think we will win and hope I am right. . I just don't think the odd at the bookies mirror it, that's all.

He'll play Kaboul/Vertonghen at center back and pair Bentaleb/Sandro in a 4231. Lennon/Eriksen/Chadli and who knows up top.
Just been reading the last page of posts and maybe i've lost it because i really don't understand <deleted> you are all talking about!!
Thinking now carms that he might go with a 4 3 3, 3 from Bentaleb, Sandro, Demb, Sig, Eriksen, Chadli or Lennon, Ade or Soldado.
That way we have 3 players stopping the runners from deep rather than 2 and can go with a 5 in mid at times.
Alfie, I doubt it will stop the runners, Rodgers trusts his players to keep the ball. Meaning when we have it the full backs and everyone bar Gerrard and the 2 center backs are in pushing forward.
When we loose it this can obviously cause us problems, but I don't think he would change that. I think he would go with the philosophy that has been working of 'yes we may get caught and concede, but we have betters strikers and we are confident we will outscore you'. So far it's working most weeks, we are due a time at home where it doesn't!

It seems all the talking points amongst Spurs fans regards sunday is fear of how high a line Sherwood will play!! Whilst i find Sherwoods self confidence and approach amusing at times it also scares me sh1tless. Seems i'm not alone.
Hugo Lloris is going to have to be faster off his line than Usain Bolt!!
I think if you play a high line the game could be done within the first 20mins again, that would be suicidal imo.
YB
Well yes, this is the concern we all have but to be honest, but if Sherwood has done his homework our line will not be high. of course thats an "IF" though.
I have a feeling Liverpool will be feeling the pressure more than us and with the weight of expect ion building i think its a great opportunity to undo you. Get on it YB at 7/1.....
I hope he hasn't done his homework. And if he has I hope we are still to good for you and blast you away in the first half has we have done many times this season already.
However, like Stevie said I thought we were very nervy late on against Sunderland and I thought you could sense the tension in the crowd right from the off. A lot of the fans genuinely believe that we are in with a real chance and we need to keep this run going. That must transcend to the players. Lets hope as you say Stevie we can keep a lid of it. Will certainly be a test of character tomorrow that's for sure.
No way I am getting on it as a Liverpool fan Carms! Then again no way I am getting on Liverpool at 1.4 something......that's massively short in my opinion, but I hope it proves not to be!

Over 7/1 to win at our place tomorrow. We are massive favourites and I hope we live up to that and take you apart but that price seems huge value to me. If I wasn't a Liverpool fan I would have a cheeky bet on that.

What Rodgers has done with Gerrard this season has been amazing, he's slowly turned him into a Pirlo type of player, hes probably creating more chances now then he ever did. Although i should say the style of football we play now probably helps him.
Agree and there's a hell of a lot more players he should be credited to bringing the best out of too!

'Last report was 48 meters, what will it be in a years time?'
Depends what medication he takes.
In English football. pitches are xxx yards x xx yards. Goals are 8 yards wide and 8 ft high. The penalty area is known as the 18 yard box, the penalty spot is 12 yards and a player has to retreat 10 yards from a free kick..........so, why the hell is everyone referring to Rooney's goal in metres?
Maybe players should retreat from a free kick 10 x 91.44 cm ?
Oh by the way Rooney's goal was about 52.49 yards out.
However, statistics alerted Spurs to Eriksen "creating more scoring opportunities" last season than any other player in the main five european leagues so we had a fair inkling that 12m was a snip. that statistic is far more relevant than the stupid assists which actually tells you more about your strikers.
I took some stick on here about October/ November time when I used this stat to show how well Gerrard was playing and how important he was for us. At the time (and wouldn't mind betting he's still up there) he had created the most "scoring opportunities" in the league. Many said define a "scoring opportunity" and "what a load of crap". Sometimes in my opinion it does have its uses and I am sure someone like Brendan Rodgers is as well as an extremely good man manager and tactician, he's very into his "stats".
-
Carmine, I'm surprised you give Sherwood so much grief. I was in an out of watching your game, but whenever I watched a bit Spurs seemed to be on top. Tim slagged off the players after the Chelsea game (deservedly so - although maybe should have been more private) and against Arsenal they stepped up. I don't think it was tactics that let you down, it was the lack of quality.
I'm probably showing my frustration because in certain respects he's done alright and yes, we were on top for a lot of the game.
I just think TS needs more time to learn his trade, he's very raw and some of his decisions at key stages are wrong. We need a more experienced manager.
I think any manager that would have inherited this current squad wouldn't have done any better than TS has done.
As mjj says, there are too many players that lack the quality needed and only 6-7 that are good enough, in fairness to TS, he can only be properly judged if he's given the time to
bring his own group in, if not, then whoever Levy decides to bring in will need to do the same.
If we are so lacking in quality how come we have the best away record in the league?
The current squad find it easier to play away due to less pressure from the home crowd.
Also, when playing away, they find it easier to catch teams on the break, where as at home
they lack the quality to break teams down due to the away teams sitting back.
If you can't win your home games then what chance have you got for success?
Another question would be why has this squad been unable to get any results against the current top 4 teams apart from a draw at home to Chelsea?
Cos they're not as good as the top 4 squads.
The biggest indicator this season and last, was the lack of goals this squad has managed to score, hence our -1 goal diff. There just isn't enough goal scorers in the squad.
Eriksen is one player we bought in that has proven his worth and maybe Paulinho, although he hash't been as good since his return from injury.
The other 5 just haven't done enough, whether they will next season is anyones guess, but
for me, this season is already over.
Adding to that,
Rose & Naughton have been inconsistent and prone to the odd error.
Dawson has had his better days, Kaboul is out of contract this summer.
BAE & Holtby may never return from their loans.
Siggy blows hot & cold.
Kane, when given a game hasn't taken his chance and doesn't look like he will.
Lennon, can be a match winner one game and totally out of it in another.
That leaves the remainder of which amount to 6-7 players that are good enough.
Agree with most of this, good post!
-
I see even Merson has joined the band of ( I call them )" wise after the eventers" to slag off Spurs summer signings, a true football expert would have the knowledge to slag then then off when first bought but i don't recall anyone doing that, now all the so called experts are coming out of the woodwork with their cheap shots.
It seems to me a lot people don't know the difference between a bad player and a player who is out of form, many players have struggled in their first season at a club but the so called experts seem to forget this !
If anyone can name one new Spurs signing of the 7 who came to the club without a decent cv I'd be surprised.
I did question them on here Alfie before the season started. I asked why you had to replace some of the good players you had with players of a similar of value and gave the example of the defender whose name I can't spell being brought in for Caulker. You said Caulker wanted to go and also wasn't quick enough on the turn so fair enough.
I must admit I like Sherwood, he seems an honest guy who wants the best for Spurs and I am sure he will do well in the future but when he was appointed I said he would do well short term but long term he would be found out. I still stand by that.
Anyway Alfie you said you would be happy with 7th so your well on course to over achieve for that!

nah, this team has progressed beyond lucas now. the middle three of gerrard, henderson and allen/coutinho is so much more mobile and breaks play up in areas that lucas doesn't.
Didn't think I would when he got injured but agree with you Stevie. Many wrote Stevie G off after the first half of the Villa game but he has been superb.
Been away for a while so thought I would just pop back on and put on record again my thoughts on what an absolutely superb job Brendan is doing.
Now as Stevie G said we need to make sure we go and get a result at Cardiff, 9 points from our 3 away games would be fantastic.

Liverpool playing well. No so long ago it was talk of top 4. Now it is the title and rightly so.
No talk on here of any of that! Alfie doesn't allow it!

Have to agree to disagree with you both on this. In my opinion there was no way we would have sold him to a premier league team viewed as a rival for 4th regardless of 40/50 million.
If a foreign team had come in however then yes I agree with you but definitely not a rival.
