  4. Thats such a load of BS.

Tourists are much more likely to spend a lot of money than people who live here. How would tourist cause problems exactly?

bit naive there mate,go to zoe yellow, and see how they behave, mainly like young tourist anywere else in the world, having a fuelled alcholic ball, plus i dont think they like them approaching there women, its the same as infinty, warm up, monkey club, they dont like farangs in there thai venues.

Exactly. As the guys said above where do you think there will be more problems from foreigners.....zoe area and spicy or fabrique?

  5. Scratching always sucked as in that you have to pay 300b to get in and you only get a beer for your voucher.

Whereas Fabrique the 300b can go towards a bottle, which is perfectly fine. Still never understood why they charge farang. Its not like farangs dont spend money when they go to a club. Its just kinda stupid and puts a bad taste in peoples mouth.

Maybe they just wanna keep it for thai people only? No idea why that is so important to them either.

The reason I heard is because "they don't want foreigners to go there". When i enquired further was that they specifically meant foreigners travelling through that were more likely to cause them problems and less likely to spend money than the average foreigner working/living here. Just what I was told, of course might be wrong but from what I have seen there it does make sense, only ever see foreigners that live here there.

  6. They were not after any cash. They went for the girl. The girl was assaulted. Her boyfriend attacked and then was attacked himself. He successfully diverted their attention to his cost. He had very good reason to believe she was about to be seriouisly sexually assaulted if not raped. You were not there. I prefer the account of the witness. If you do not believe woman have assisted males in the sexual assault and rape of other women then you are living in a very sheltered world. Quite clearly the two young Brits were objects/ targets, of whatever this group was trying to do. The Daily Mail does not need to hype this story. Its also running in The Times and many other newspapers and TV.

If they wanted to rape her, she would have been raped. They took out the boyfriend. They could have done anything they wanted to the girl. They did not rape her or stab her as far as I have read. And there are no independent witnesses as to what happened, only the victim and the attackers and the girlfriends who have said nothing yet.

They couldn't do anything they wanted because she ran away while they were attacking her boyfriend!

  7. It seriously irritates me to see the Thais always laughing at the scene of a crime or during a re-enactment. It makes me want to punch them in the face really hard, especially in situations where people have died. They have no respect for anyone or anything other than money.

Secondly, what a buffoon this guy is. He murders a girl and hangs around town. Just incredible. At least he's off the streets.

It`s people like you with your ridiculous comments that really irritate me and hopefully someone may punch you in the face.

You’re talking a load of crap.

The police are only displaying the proudness of their achievements in apprehending this murderer in a thoroughly professional manner, with speed and efficiency and showing their pleasure that this brutal killer is now been taken out of society.

They done a wonderful job in seeking justice for this poor woman and should be thanked with gratitude and appreciation for their work, not criticised.

This was made possible by the help of those that assisted the police with their inquiries, that all contributed towards seeking justice for this woman.

Be grateful that the scum murderer has been caught and is being dealt with, and please give the police a compliment of well done, when it`s well deserved.

Without a doubt the police have solved this case in a fast and effective way and of course deserve credit for that. They have done their job well. But do you think they would be behaving differently if they hadn't done it effectively and quickly as in some cases??

  8. Sorry but are unaware of the facts.

Actually the person in question is a Pakistani National checked in to the guesthouse without providing the required documentation. He signed in under a bogus name.

The good news he is now in police custody. He was arrested at the airport in Bangkok preparing to leave the country. He has now been transported to Chiang Mai this afternoon and interviewed by police in Chiang Mai and is ready to be formally charged. Stolen items were found in his possession. Great work by the Royal Thai Police.

  11. Thank you very much for the info, very useful. I am interested in starting to have a dabble on the Thai stock market. What is the minimum I can start an account with at MKE???

    Youngbrit

    I don't think there is a minimum.

You just have to put some money in the acct.

They start out new customers with a cash acct, so you are limited to a trade with what you have.

Commissions are low- minimum is 50 B, and it is fixed at (I recall) .25% of the trade value, until you get up into the big lot category, where the price goes down.

Good Luck, and good trading to you!

Ok thanks. Do I have to go down to their office near airport plaza or can I set it up over the internet?

    Thanks in advance.

    Youngbrit

You have to go in person with your passport.

    Thanks very much.

  13. I have a Maybank Kim Eng acct here in CM. I've traded here for a few years, and am happy with the company, especially their excellent research reports from many sources (all of the major western and Asian investment banks), that they make freely available to all customers.

Maybank Kim Eng is the largest brokerage in Thailand, and the parent company is based in Singapore.

It is a breeze to open a brokerage acct here, with whomever. Lots of brokerages here in CM. Phatra, Bualuang; probably a dozen in total.

All you need is to fund the acct, and set up online access. I don't think your visa status is an issue- they just want a copy of your passport face page to ID you. I offered my Thai visa copies but it was politely declined.

For funding, with MKE you go to one of their offices here, and get the various bank acct numbers that MKE uses in CM.

So say you bank with Siam Commercial Bank.

On the little slip of paper they give you, with all the local banks in CM that MKE has accts with, you effect a transfer from your account (say at SCB) to the MKE acct at SCB here in CM. Take the transfer slip from your bank branch back to the MKE office. They will process it, and your acct will be credited in hours (usually at end of biz day).

For online access, it varies by brokerage, but it took me about 5 minutes at MKE to set up a username and password.

I do have a brokerage acct in the US I trade on as well, but I use the Maybank Kim Eng acct for Thai stock trading.

    Hope this helps.

    An additional note.

As noted above by other members, there is no capital gains tax charged when selling a security here in Thailand.

There is a 10% withholding for dividend income. Standard under Thai tax law.

Cash interest has a 15% withholding. Same as every bank in Thailand, except for savings accounts with under a 100K balance.

BTW, MKE usually pays a small fraction under what the major Thai banks (BBL, SCB, etc.) pay for a 3 month fixed deposit acct.

So say BBL is paying 2% for a 3 month fixed deposit.

MKE pays 1.9% for cash, and it is instantly available and transferable to a bank acct that you have linked to the brokerage acct. All done online, and takes one day to settle.

So say you want to park some money, possibly trade with it, but still have it available for whatever, without it being tied up in a fixed deposit.
