This is the first sensible solution that the TAT has proposed. Certainly the third item regarding retirees. Let us hope that it is implemented since thousands of present retirees would be able to get a 10 year extension. I know that most of my friends would qualify too. The requirements are very reasonable for genuine retirees.

I am sorry to hear of your problems. A sympathetic immigration office would find a way of giving you a marriage extension without your wife attending the office. They certainly have discretion to do so.
Most likely, if you do not extend, immigration will leave you alone, as you suspect. However, there are no guarantees. Rarely, there have been some real horror stories, and your local officials seem unsympathetic.
A good agent could make the problem go away for about 15000 baht. Maybe worth considering.

My marriage visa extension is due at the end of this month. I am completely disabled and my wife bedridden. Since neither of us can go to immigration we can't get a visa extension due to marriage. A retirement extension is no problem I don't need to have a go to immigration. I only have 400 K in the bank. So I contacted immigration they asked me to get a medical certificate for my hospital and they would give me an extension of two months. They added this would enable me to put in another 400 K into my bank account so that I would have 800 K for two months in my bank account. I got the medical certificate and there was no problem, they gave me an extra two months and did not require any evidence of money in the bank. But I was quite shocked that they gave me two separate extensions at 1900 bt each, total 3800 bt, I guess I can borrow the extra 400 K and get a retirement visa. But once I get it I will have to give that money back. So I can't keep it in my bank account after obtaining the visa. But that will give me 14 months until I have to renew the visa. I am 90 years old and in 14 months time I very much doubt whether I'll still be alive. I am wondering what would happen if I didn't extend the visa in two months time.
I never go out of the house and if the immigration came to investigate me overstaying. Would they disconnect my oxygen and remove the ventilator which I have to use now and again and physically remove me to a detention center. I am almost completely paralyzed, deaf in my eyesight is poor. Otherwise I'm okay. Any comments would be appreciated- 1

At 71 I'm virtually uninsurable now but in saying that I have been self insured (when it comes to health) all my life.
Had a domestic accident 2 months ago, splintered a section of my knee cap and tissue damage to my lower leg and foot. In short 6 days in the BKK Hospital Udon which included surgery.
Thus far 140K Baht (AUD $6000) = absolutely no problem. I'm so far in front of the game just looking at the ridiculous premiums I would have paid over the years.
same with me.

What kind of extension are you on? Do you intend to come back? My understanding is that there are big issues coming back but I have a hard time keeping up with the specifics of that.

Agree. A bit of an overreaction. Brazil has 3..5 times the population of Thailand and infection rate is 30 times higher!

There e is a great deal of over legislating in Thailand. Think about this dow America change its immigration policies every year, or the EU? Thailand seems to want to change everything every year....but that is not the way to make things better.
nothing has changed in tke last 20 years still 800k retirement and 400k marriage. What has changed is the tightning of the financial rules due to people using others to put up the funds!

I think that you should make a reality check. I spend more than a hundred thousand every month and so do most of my friends.

Slightly off topic, but when I applied for permanent residency last year they wanted all my old passports since first coming to Thailand, plus my current one. For me this was four passports in total. Apparently I couldn't have applied without them, so it was lucky I kept them as there is nothing anywhere to say that you should, as far as I know.
Very reasonable request from immigration, since you would have to been at least three years on a retirement Visa before you can apply for permanent residence. So naturally they would want to see your old passports.

seems a lot of confusion about hospital prices in Thailand. The best hospital is the government Rama in Bangkok. It is better equiped than Bumrungrad. I had leg artery opeation there for bt 160,000 as against 1,300,000 in a leading private hospital. It is cheaper to use government hospitals for expensive operations than paying out hefty insurance premiums when you get older. I am 90 and in last 20 years have had 3 heart operatons, above operation, cancer radiation and about two months total in patient treatment, which came to much less than 20 years insurance.

As a follow on the my last thread on the subject, here :- https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1189797-registering-a-uk-marriage-in-thailand-the-madness-continues/
My friend has reported the latest (lack of) progress.
A couple of weeks back he went to the ampur office with his (not cheap) stack of documents to get a Yellow Book (list in the previous thread).
As usual the office wasn't particularly busy and they were in and out in an hour and a half.
Highlights;- No real issues other than having to point out his parents names on his (translated) birth certificate (labelled as Mother's Name and Father's Name) and confusion over the "No Trace" on his criminal record check (which they seemed to interpret as "this person doesn't exist").
Anyway. At the end of the session he was sent away with "Big Boss not here, we will call when we want you to come in again".
Day before yesterday they got the call and attended yesterday accompanied by another witness (not the same person as last time was the instruction).
They were there for 2.5 hours, most of which was spent watching a LOT of typing into the computer interspersed with signing papers in Thai, and confirming where he worked and their earlier address in Thailand.
End result - We need to talk to puyai-baan, he will come tomorrow, and we have to send these papers somewhere (it was unclear where the "somewhere" is).
He's now in "I'll get this document if it kills me" mode!!
why on earth do you bother?I can't think of a single thing that makes it worthwhile. However if you get the pink ID card. that is really useful and almost essential if you are using government hospitals

One of the many reasons I live in Thailand is because of the racism in England. When I married my Thai wife nearly 50 years ago I came in for a bit of criticism from some of the distant aristocratic members of my family. Previously I was engaged to the daughter of a very well-known aristocrat and there was a bit of a scandal when I broke it off. My previous wife, whom I wasn't married to very long is now married into a Royal European family. She had the cheek to write and ask me not to tell anybody that I was married to her. I'm glad I left that all behind, living happily in Thailand for the last 35 years.

Absolutely essential if you use government hospitals. If you don't have
a p[nk ID you might have to wait an hour or two while they get somebody to translate the required information from your passport or whatever else you use before they issue a hospital card. Which is now only valid for one day. I have had to attend a government clinic every day for a wound treatment and each time they insisted on the pink card.

A ridiculous survey. For a start who would want to eat two Western meals a day when Thai food is one of the best in the world. In fact it is one of the attractions of living in Thailand. I could go on and on.

Expats over 60 urged to register for vaccine on Thai govt site

It said that the vaccination centres are in Bangkok and later on in Pattaya. So what about the rest of the country?
I had no problem in registering and it said it would send me an email to confirm the place and time. I live a long way from Bangkok so I hope they don't expect it to go there to get a vaccine. I'm far too old to travel their website did mention to bring evidence of existing medical problems and lifted them. Will you tip to see what happens
