I am 90 years old and don't expect to live too long. I have been in Thailand for over 40 years and I'm a writer. I have published five books. I'm thinking of writing a very long post on Facebook detailing a lot of people and their corruption. And post it just before I die. Does anyone think it would create problems for my family. My wife doesn't have Facebook or a computer. Our children live abroad

elite Card doesn't make much sense when when a retirement Visa costs only BT 1,900 and it is so easy to get. But there seems to be a number of posts with vested interest on this forum who are posting false information here claiming that the retirement Visa is very problematic.

I honestly know a few people back in the UK who have no intention of getting the vaccine because they are convinced it is microchipped for Govt surveillance.
Hopefully not too many in the general population are that paranoid and avoid getting protection from the virus.
I would not want to know such selfish and ignorant people. Unfortunately there does seem to be a lot of them in the UK

It is admirable the way Thailand handles all its local infections with intensive tracking, unlike the UK whose efforts have been pathetic.

Isn't it somehow naive to expect that all people will follow COVID rules and regulations by themselves? And there is not much that can be done. You can punish some but you can't stop such a behavior completely.
It's much worse in other countries. Teenagers in the UK going to rave parties breaking the law. People sneaking out of home quarantine and riots in many other countries against the restrictions.

Not correct. Many foreigners have credit cards in Thailand. It just requires work permit for a couple of years, working at a reliable company and showing the deposits from salary into bank account for past 6 months, employment letter and such... all same as for Thais, except salary requirement is higher.
Generally it's about the risk of foreigner running away without paying bills, so first card can be a challenge unless you have some other loan like for a car or condo or alike, to show credit history. But if you have good credit rating, your chances of getting a card (if you meet other criteria, mostly dictated by Bank of Thailand), will be more or less the same as for a Thai national.
Bangkok Bank offers special credit card for foreigners, which basically forces you to put money into account and then that's used as a guarantee to pay the bills. They apparently have lower requirements than other banks.
SCB preferred that salary was paid into SCB savings account.
You could also try more foreigner-friendly banks like Citibank or American Express or Krungsri (who took over HSBC retail banking).
Never applied Kasikorn so can't comment.
I think I might of mentioned this in another post. I did get a credit card from Bangkok Bank as a retiree and with no collateral. But I had been customer of the bank for many years and I knew the bank manager personally. She told me that many foreigners in the past who had credit cards had simply left the country without paying the balance. They will now be much more careful in giving credit cards to foreigners. I would think if you have a good relationship with your bank and had an account for a long time and had a credible amount of money held in their bank you should be able to get a credit card without collateral.

Some of the posts here are not correct.I got married in Sweden to a Swedish lady and we got divorced in Sri Lanka. My second wife also Swedish I got married in Sri Lanka and got my divorce in Singapore. I married my third wife, Italian, in Sri Lanka and got divorced in Singapore. I'm pretty sure you can get a divorce in the country which you are residing in. I Iuggest you simply go to a Thai lawyer

You get divorced where you were married. There is no onus upon any country to inform others so USA would have no knowledge of it. It's why here & most other places want proof that you are free to marry from home country

Very sad.
John'son and Trump are very similar. Let's make America great again, let's make the UK great again. Trump has failed and Johnson will fail too. And England will become a small island of dwindling importance. Scotland will be independent and eventually Northern Ireland will unite with the south. After all both these countries voted to stay in the EU. UK passport will be useless since I will no longer be able to travel and live and work where I want. Fortunately I have a second passport so I can ditch my UK one. in the end people will equate Trump supporters with Brexit supporter and wonder why they could have possibly voted as they did.

It really depends on who you and the relationship with your bank. I got a real credit card from Bangkok Bank without any collateral because I had a long relationship with them. I was also friendly with the current manager.

Covid 19 and associated return Visa issues, make leaving Thailand, to plan to return later, problematic at best , especially for those of us of advanced years, I have actually reconciled myself to maybe never leaving Thailand again, at least not for a number of years. Considering all the advantages of living here, I am happy with that future, provided my kids can come and visit occasionally. I don't expect to see them in person any time in the next one to two years, which is sad, but WhatsApp helps a lot. Most of my friends here are equally happy to contemplate never leaving. I wonder how wide spread that feeling in among longer term expats?
I have not left Thailand for over 12 years because of the many wonderful places to visit. I have many wealthy friends who come and visit me a yearly basis. They do so because Thailand is a great place of value for money for quality. They can stay at really first class hotels for half the price that it would be elsewhere.

This is why Thailand has to have strict quarantine. It is not the dirty farangs who are bringing in the infections, it is Thais who will not follow basic common sense and isolate in quarantine unless forced to do so.
UK allowed residents back in but insisted on 14 day quarantine in their own homes. Since most followed the rules, no great surge in infections.
Thailand is suffering from restrictions because the government knows that Thais cannot be trusted to quarantine unless forced into isolation. Who to blame?
In spite of the UK quarantine, it has the highest per capita deaths in the world, whilst Thailand has one of the lowest??

In what way are they finding it harder.
exactly. It is still 800,000 bt same as it was nearly 20 years ago which means probably the equivalent of BT 400,000 today so it's basically cheaper. The only people who are finding it harder to get a retirement Visa of those that don't have the financial requirements.

It really depends on who you're married to. If you are married to a lower class or middle-class girl you would be expected to pay. If the girls family are poor you should willingly pay more. Most upper-class Thais would probably pay for the wedding. But then very few farangs marry upper-class Thais. My friend married a cabinet ministers daughter and another married a general's daughter and it was them who paid for everything and of course gave a huge reception. In my case a high-ranking Prince paid for all of our marriage expenses, and big reception in a Palace.

Just seeing to all the people who have got married, how much did you pay in total for all?
And if you have a rough breakdown that would be great.
TIA

A dismal failure if you wish to revive tourism. A huge success if you do not.
So you would prefer for Thailand to be like the USA with tens of thousands of people dying
