I am in BKK during September. Can I come and see you for an initial consultation to discuss my circumstances & options.
What are you consultation charges for this service?

Just been through all this in Hua Hin. We were flooded for 10 days. Furniture and many belongings lost. Bungalow built low lying. Lucky we are staying in a rented place. But have definetely learned a lesson if I decide to buy! The worlds weather is definetely changing!

Maybe because initially the outlay could be less:
From what I've read 500,000 baht needs to be paid up in cash.
Around 300,000 needs to be salaried for 4 thais per annum + + +
Just looking at different options to weigh the initial outlay. You don't mention a limited company via my gf.
Early days for me just looking to get all the options together.

I've read lots on here about the 2 Million Baht Share capital company and think I understand most of it.
But
Is there another options to get a work permit through a thai company you set-up for your gf. (No comments about watching your back please)
or
Any other options. (Don't want to work for private company)
I'm 50 and UK Passport holder.

Redrus, here is an easy on the eye Baht to the pound listing of exchange rates you can expect in Thailand:
-
Noticed over the last month that the pound is steadily falling against the Baht.
Anyone got any idea why this is happening, the FTSE in UK is strong.

I hired a car phuket 700 baht per day for 8 days, picked up airport. Drove to krabi 2.5 - 3 hours, nice drive and stayed a few days then drove down to Lanta visiting a few sites on the way. Nice trip and roads pretty empty all the way.

Yes do let us know how you get on Peter. I will be in HH for 2 months soon and it is one of my tasks!

Thanks. I will try immigration in Hua Hin/Bangkok and let you know how I go on.

I think I have everything to get myself a 1 year licence except proof of house rental. The landlord is from Germany and at the moment is in Germany with his thai wife for 8 months (house in her name). I have got two monthly receipts for rental in english but no rent book, I pay the next door neighbour at the moment. We are in Hua-hin (Thai gf & me). Any ideas before I go to apply and explain the situation.
Not sure if I can say we are living with her brother in Bangkok who owns his place so can get some documentation but prefer not to go down the bullshit road.
Cheers

Just turn up you will surely get a hotel with 30 minutes of arriving in patong. Just like Pattaya there are many hotels and guest houses not Interwebbed!

Out of curiosity I will draw a tenner from my SCB account in the UK and see what they give me. I would imagine that it will be worse than buying UK pounds (T/C's) with Baht in Thailand.
If I go the retiree route then everyones in the same boat if they raise the minimum from 800,000K. So someone with a retiree visa that is 10 years renewed will have to pay the new minimum. That is correct isn't it?
Thanks Guys for all your input, much food for thought

Interesting. I'll give it a try. I've got a SCB Easy mastercard/Hip Card. Not much in it, may have to get the GF to put more in for a test. I'm in the UK now so will do the test. AT the moment your lucky to get 67 to the pound here via the tourist exchange. I'll let you know sap.
-
Couple of things:
It's good to hear that you can get repeats on the multi-entry visas.
With regards the 800,000K it would be nice if I could get some out to the UK for interest purposes. I would have thought the ATM route would consist of really bad exchange rates and you would have to weigh up the odds, unlike the Nationwide Card.
BTW limit on not taking out more then 50K signs were posted at Don Muang 4 weeks ago.
-
Thanks all, Good idea thaiflyer. That will possibly be my route. If I get the years OA then towards the end I may convert to the "retirement" reason.
-
I visit thailand normally 5 times a year for 3 to 4 week each time. I am planning to increase my length of stay starting this christmas as I plan a 6-7 week stay. I will then increase my stay as time goes by, I'm 51, UK Passport.
My question:
I'm planning on getting an non-immigrant 'O' Thai visa, multiple entry with reason being planning retirement at Hull. After the year visa has expired is it easy to get another O visa the following year with the same reason?

Well I hope we don't have another 'once in a lifetime event' as there was more last night and our bungalow still has a foot of water inside, Outside 3 foot in places and forcast more to come. Living in a hotel which is not such fun when your used to your own place and stressed up to the eyeballs!
-
Peter let me know how you get on with this project as I would like to invest in the same during December. Sorry I don't know HH or Petchburi well enough at the moment to help.

Thanks for the updates guys. Much appreciated. Which building company had the great idea to build a couple of estates in such a deep depression? PeaceBlondie, funny you said that about 50 years, my girlfriend said she was told the exact same thing yesterday.

Renting a bungalow on Soi 102 and just heard all the rooms are underwater up to an average thais neck, lost all our gear. If anyone gets updates regarding the state of the floods please post.

Just been told that there were major floods in Hua Hin last night. Any news on the worst areas affected and what is the current situation?

Paid 9000 baht to have my dell 15 inch screen replaced with a second hand one, top floor pantip. Asked many places all about same price. Did it in 40 minutes. I was happy as in the UK they would have told me to buy a new one.
