I would like to get a broadband connection installed at my GF place in Bangkok.

Questions:

Who to use?

I Cannot give any security as I am on a tourist visa (5 long visits per year). I can pay in advance. What are the requirements

I would like a wireless router (Do I buy my own in BKK or import)

Try Bangkok bank, I opened one there with out too many problems.. Take a photo copy of your passport and tell them your wp is being proccessed, mine was... It may help if you are not trying to bank a small sum...

Ok it looks like the SCB will give me what I want from these posts (Account, ATM, Internet) Where is the main branch in BKK and has anybody opened here?

Bangkok Bank seems to allow but nobody has mentioned english internet access with these.

Thanks all. I been looking at the online demo of internet banking with Siam Commercial Bank. Anybody managed to get a savings account setup with ATM card and internet banking with tourist visa only at SCB?

I would like to open a bank account in BKK on a tourist visa.

Account should have card to use at ATM and english language internet banking if possible (really only used to check receipt of transfers from UK).

I tried during December to open accounts at various branches in bangkapi and lak si but was told that I needed a work permit. Is this true? If not could anyone supply me with address of a bank.

Yes Orange UK still block there phones. But good news that an orange thai simm will work in my phone.

I always found using the ATM with my halifax card was fine. The only problem was the exchange rate they gave me. For example I was getting 74 ish baht in thailand, through the ATM I got 71.5 on the same day. That is alot. Not sure what the best solution is.]

I was going to open a bank account and send the money to the account in Sterling. That way I assumed I would be on the winning side.

After you go through this process what is the cost of calling back to the UK?
